Estoy muy #pollavieja y no veo ventaja o sentido de usar #swap a pesar de #zswap o #zram. Además no entiendo las diferencias entre unas y otras. Hablo en el contexto de PC de usuario. No servidores ni pollas en vinagre.

I write insane amounts of data to my scratch drives (AI models, VMs, you name it). Currently, that is an SSD. I have worn a few below 100%. And since I don't have enough kidneys to sell for more SSDs, I'm trying something kind of retro.
I ordered a USB 3.2 DAS, and will load it with 4x 1TB WD VelociRaptor HDDs. This in RAID0 should give me near 1 gigabyte per second, plenty for the purpose. HDDs don't "wear out" from writing. (EDIT: as fast).
And the sound will be splendid 😁 Stay tuned.

Bon... je crois que tout ce que j'ai pu lire (et ce que certains m'ont dit sur le Fedivers) me confirme dans l'usage du swap compressé (zram vs. zswap):
- zram UNIQUEMENT si vous n'avez pas de swap disque.
- si vous avez du swap disque, ZSWAP ET RIEN D'AUTRE.Et : Si vous avez une forte pression sur la RAM, préférer swap disque + zswap, car zram se comporte mal dans ces cas là (les MRU sont envoyés sur disque, ce qui n'est carrément pas ce qu'on veut).

Mi sistema andaba un poco lento cuando terminé de editar el video sobre memoria libre, disponible, y la métrica PSI en Linux, y efectivamente, el sistema estaba bastante colapsado.
Dato: tengo 15G de RAM, y estaba bastante libre.
Conclusión: el cuello de botella era el acceso a disco.
Estuve tuneando un poco algunos daemons que usan I/O intensa, como syncthing, para optimizar un poco.
Debería documentarlo, no? 😅

Za oknem jest już coraz cieplej, więc w naszej parafii przyszła pora, by zrobić w szafach porządki po zimie!
W pierwszy dzień wiosny, czyli w sobotę 21 marca, zapraszamy serdecznie na pierwszą w tym roku garażówkę. Po raz kolejny chcemy dać tym, którzy mają w domach niepotrzebne ubrania, książki i sprzęty domowe, możliwość przyniesienia ich i podzielenia się z innymi, a tym, którym coś wpadnie w oko, wzięcia sobie tego. Można przyjść z czymś na wymianę, można zjawić się tylko z zamiarem dołożenia czegoś od siebie (choć doświadczenie pokazuje, że czasem i tak wychodzi się z jakąś nową perełką 😉), można tylko brać i można też wpaść po prostu zamienić z nami parę słów i napić się kawy lub herbaty – drzwi u metodystów jak zwykle będą otwarte.
Wymiana będzie odbywała się w godzinach 11–14 w holu Szkoły Języka Angielskiego Metodystów przy Placu Zbawiciela 6. Do zobaczenia!

Because #TLS supports not just #server side #certificates , but also the client can be verified.
My #Dovecot now logs me in without a password :D I just need to possess a valid (unlocked) private key. The secret never crosses the network.
Next step: make sure the decrypted key is never written to #swap .

So, I like the perspective of optimizing swappiness on #Fedora, because I started to run out of memory as demands have grown. 8 GB simply doesn't cut it.
But according to biskitpagla, it's not recommended to take up more #ZRAM than my actual #RAM, because it would override all attempts at switching to #swap file in case ZRAM is exhausted.[1]
#ArchWiki has some config to make better use of ZRAM along with swappiness[2], so I'll take it.

3 года прожил с 32GB оперы без #swap и не испытывал проблем. Всё изменилось когда решил собрать #firefox сборка выжрала всю оперативную память и система жёстко затормозила (хоть и не зависла) и получил ошибку.
А всему виной #rust который жрёт как не в себя. Сегодня собирал #librewolf и пришлось ограничиться 8 потоками и всё таки подключил #swap (но забыл изменить vm.swappiness = 0 поэтому на скрине #swap = 0).

My ISP gave me an interesting scare a couple of minutes ago. As you know if you do not want to pay them for a permanent IPv4 address, which I consider obsolete networking, they remotely reboot your gateway device and assign it a random IP out of one of their IPv4 pools.
This time it didn't take the usual long 30 to 90 Seconds to reboot the device and transfer credentials to obtain the new IP.
The Gateway got in an infinite loop somewhere and I had to Power it off, then had to wait 90 seconds to power cycle it before it took 180 seconds for the device to finally get the new IP.Someone screwed up the login sequences for the xDSL devices of which the hashtag is in the toot and now we as the paying customer again have to pay for it in wasted time.
Luckily this power cycling off xDSL devices occurs only once in 6 weeks and usually I do not use the internet at that point in time.
In case you are wondering my Gateway uses obsolete technology, is forcibly assigned by the ISP and it's also cursed with a extremely low transfer speed.
I just included a speedtest after first draft of this toot
As you can see the speeds here are so low the connection is virtually unusable for anything where you have to move a big bites of data. They still manage to extort more than USD 30 a month for this connection
