Longtime #Massachusetts State #Police Union leader and his fave registered state lobbyist have both been resentenced in federal #court for a years-long “organized criminal enterprise” to defraud union members and the state.
Both Dana Pullman, then State Police Association of Massachusetts (#SPAM) president, and Anne Lynch, a top cop #union #lobbyist, were convicted in 2022 of a scheme where Pullman would use his role to steer biz to Lynch and receive copious cash kickback$.
"Dana Pullman and Anne Lynch ran the Massachusetts State Police union like an old-school racket, siphoning money from troopers, deceiving the Commonwealth, hiding income from the IRS and then lying when they got caught. Their conduct was deliberate, sustained and corrosive,” said United States Prosecuting Attorney Leah B. Foley.

#Tennessee man #imprisoned by virulent #GOP sheriff for posting #meme to a members only non-public local #Facebook group is finally released.
Back in September Larry Bushart was detained and given a $2m bail at Perry County jail in Linden, Tennessee. The rural #RWNJ sheriff was offended in wake of Charlie Kirk murder , apparently after seeing a Bushart posted pic of President #Drumpf, saying “We have to get over it", which was a quote about a previous shooting he'd made.
Since then the detained man, who'd become a free speech cause célèbre, was held in custody in rural Tennessee for weeks after small town sheriff Nick Weems declared the post "intentionally sought to create hysteria within the community," which is what Weems said in a statement to The Tennessean newspaper last month.
The detained man was apparently being prosecuted by 32nd Judicial District Attorney Hans Schwendimann, who did not respond for media comment after the release.

These people (there are many) have been living here with nowhere to go for months if not years. Several side walks are covered in tents, two deep in some places. It is a violation of community norms and standards. No one had an issue with this eighth amendment (cruel and unusual sleep deprivation) for a long time and then #PDX started the raids.

Marling is perhaps best known for his caustic commentary targeting petty #Twitler #CEO #MelonHusk with viral projection takes including “Space Karen,” “Lawless Oligarch” "Mediocre Manchild" and other critiques on the #American oligarch's corporate #SocialMedia HQ outpost along #MarketSt in #SanFrancisco.
Originally after being cited, Marling's attorney assumed the small suburban city would return his projection equipment and drop charges, but angry officials retained "outside counsel and private attorney to act as prosecutor, and they prosecuted this to the bitter end” which prompted the case to continue for years as Marling counter sued the bedroom community in #federalcourt for alleged violations of his #FirstAmendment and #FourthAmendment rights, as well as false arrest, among other legal claims that personally named city officials and #police personnel who pursued the charges. Named in Marling's suit were #CityAttorney Martin Lysons, city manager Joe Gorton, ex top cop Craig Stevens, current #PoliceChief Denton Carlson, Sgt. Michael Pistello, Officer Rick Gonzalez, pvt attorney Lance Bayer and city employee Karen McHenry-Smith. The first alleged criminal conspiratorial act by the local govt occured when petty police lied in their report about the spot where Marling even had the projector, claiming it was propped up against a traffic light on a sidewalk rather than placed in a landscaping bed.
From there, and even after an acquittal in an actual local court for the bogus citation, Marling filed a complaint alleging numerous civil violations, including of the First, Fourth and 14th amendments and the #CivilRights Act, as well as false imprisonment.
Marling said he hopes the legal #settlement discourages crackdowns on #activism in the future.
“For the police to try to detain in this fashion is illegal — I wasn’t violating any laws,” Marling said. “I guess you could say it was a slap on the wrist to try to encourage cities to not do this.” We only got to this point where the city finally "settled" and agreed to pay #legal costs and admit no #wrongdoing after years of #litigation.

It's worth taking a cop watch training* for a much more detailed understanding of police tactics and markers. It will be specific to your area, so that you know what to look for with your local policing bodies.It may or may not involve learning about dearrest techniques — which is a separate topic — and none of it is mandatory. If today you are only comfortable stopping and watching the cops as they interact with members of the public, it's a good and helpful step on your journey.
(That is not a shameless plug, as I only teach preliminaries as part of a broader rights-training and sousveillance session.)
