It was, at its deepest level, a day about memory, dignity, land, sovereignty, and the refusal to be swallowed by imperial appetite. (MySA)

That is why, for me, Cinco de Mayo cannot be separated from another May 5: May 5, 1991, in Washington, D.C.

Some years ago a video of several police officers with shields surrounding and disarming a man wielding an axe made the rounds.

It was a great example of how professional police shouldn't need to gun people down even in dangerous situations, and I need that now.

After the fascists where gone, the police escalated the situation anyway by arresting a comrade for making a minor insult towards an officer. Antifascists did not accept this and blocked the police van. The police then resorted to considerable police violence. Apparently their favourite activity, because remarkably enough they usually do this at the end of a demonstration, when everything else has gone well.
