  1. #Movies #ActionHeroes . . .

We male #AAPI #ChineseAmericans have few positive male movie icons. heroes.

For us #Boomer Chinese-American, this was #BruceLee, who died far too young. Not only did he have a white wife, he was a "bad dude" & dispelled the negative sexual stereotypes of Asian men that still exist.

While I don't think he's the greatest Asian hero of all time, as the following article suggests, #ChowYunFat was a successor to Bruce & his partnership with John Woo is akin to that between Mifune & Kurosawa but while significant within the genre of Asian action films, far less groundbreaking than the Japanese collaboration was.

In any event, if you never seen #HardBoiled, #ABetterTomorrow & #Killer, you should make the effort to do so, because they are ground breaking movies in the modern #HongKongMovie genre & are essential to a full understanding of Asian action films.

Chinese Camp, CA was a town (among many others in CA) created out of racism but any remnant of the Chinese who were FORCED to live there is long gone.

Once went there looking for any evidence of the Chinese. Didn't find any.

According to Wiki, there were NO Chinese living in Chinese Camp in 2010.

So, the loss of property due to the fire there has nothing to do w/the Chinese anymore. 🤷‍♂️

Established in 1911 by Tam Kwong Yee and his business partner, Hum Yow -- both 1st-generation #ChineseAmericans -- #PekinNoodleParlor occupies a nondescript brick building on the only remaining block of what was once a bustling Chinatown.

A group of Chinese citizens working and living in Florida is challenging a new law that bans them from buying property in the state.

The American Civil Liberties Union (#ACLU), a civil rights group representing the plaintiffs, said the law is unconstitutional and discriminatory.

The ban would also impact #ChineseAmericans, and people of #Asian descent, the suit says.

  14. 2/2. When I was a child my parents explained to me how improper naming was used to subordinate African-Americans. Using 1st names only or "boy" or "uncle" to address mature adults. My parents scrupulously used Mr. or Miss or Mrs. (this was before MS.) or honorifics such as Dr. My marching orders, especially as a child, were to do the same. #titlesmatter #dehumanization #blacklivesmatter Discrimination takes many forms Give names to #ChineseAmericans Give proper titles to #AfricanAmericans

  15. 1/2 What's in a name? I've been reading this book. Important in many regards. But one feature stands out for me: the dehumanization of the Chinese who built the Transcontinental RR. They had no names. They were not named in company employment records. They were not named in newspaper accounts of fatal accidents. (10 people were killed. Actual names of 2-3 white people and 10 "chinamen". asianstudies.org/publications/
