CW: Anti-Asian slurs
@drahardja #AAPI #StopAsianHate
And if you ask anyone in that town about it, they'll claim that it's not racist.🤦♂️

CW: Memory, shooting, anti-Asian hate.
Yesterday made five years since a shooting spree at three massage parlors (all of them brothels) in Atlanta, Georgia (USA) claimed the lived of eight people and (more positively) gave rise to the Stop Asian Hate movement.
Not surprisingly, in the aftermath some “solutions” such as more policing of or shutting down massage parlors were proposed — as if this were somehow the fault of people there, and not, I don't know, having given the shooter a gun license the very same day…🕯️ Let's keep I mind: most victims were Asia. Most were women. Most were sex workers.
Most were all three.
It was not coincidental, no matter which version you pick.Anyway… the day might be over, but the lives are still lost, and the effects still ripple — so, I'm bringing a few mentions.

> Today, five years ago, eight people lost their lives during the Atlanta Spa Shooting.
> As we demand an end to racism, stigma, hate, violence, and policies that perpetuate these behaviors, we remember the names of the victims lost that day…

"Olen käyttänyt aikaa ja vaivaa suuresti arvostamieni suomalaisten puolustamiseen. On turhauttavaa seurata, miten Suomessa väitellään siitä, ovatko eleet nousseet Aasiassa puheenaiheeksi. Japanilaisena voin sanoa, että kyllä ne ovat ja se on valitettavasti nyt ongelma Suomelle. Tämä surettaa minuakin."

Watching a Japanese VTuber make a video about the recent Finnish racism controversy feels so surreal.
-
Viime päivinä olen seurannut ehkä liikaakin tätä viimeisintä rasismikohua ja julkisessa keskustelussa on niin paljon toistuvia asioita, että päätin tehdä siksi bingon.
-
Oh great, a Change.org petition was created because of the Finnish government's latest racism scandal. I signed this both out of disgust towards the Rudimentary Finns Party and support for Asians living in Finland.

Here's a better picture of the Requiem statue.
Never heard of this massacre in Rock Springs, WY before. Unfortunately, it was not the only such event involving the scapegoating & killing of Chinese in America. The massacre of the Chinese in LA in 1871 being another such an event.

So, I wonder how they "covered" the "deportation" of the Chinese from Crescent City in 1885. Without even seeing, it I'm sure the event was reported with glee at that time.
Pay back is a bitch even if it comes 140 years later. 🤷♂️
-
An interesting & sad story of how fear based in #xenophobia & the #RedScare mentality during the 50's (which still exists now) led to the persecution & deportation of a brilliant Chinese born rocket (jet propulsion) & nuclear scientist, who ironically would then become the leading mind in developing China's nuclear ballistic military capabilities which obviously was not in the best interests of our country.
A prime example of "cutting off your nose to spite your face." LOL!!! 🤦

Unfortunately, not an uncommon event in #ChineseAmerican history dating back to the 1800's .

I got stung by one of those Asian murder hornets today. That wasn't fun.
I'm basically not allergic to anything. I have been to Asia, Africa, south America and can eat any food I want there. Get bit by whatever insects and be fine.
But. This Asian hornet.... I'm beginning to rethink my position on #stopasianhate .... I mean, I'll reserve my hatred for the hornet and all.

@IveyJanette #AAPI #StopAsianHate #Racism
In 1871, the "good citizens" of LA also lynched 10 & killed a total of 18 Chinese -- over 10% of the Chinese population in LA at the time -- in what is now referred to as: The Chinese Massacre of 1871.

For over a century, U.S. media has painted Asians as threats, villains, or sidekicks. These racist tropes fueled exclusion laws, internment camps & hate. It's not just the past. #BannedHistory #StopAsianHate #YellowPeril #MediaMatters #AsianRepresentation

7.3: They Sent Us to Camp: My Family's Experience of Internment During WWII
If you meet a Japanese American, it’s also a pretty good bet, they probably won’t spontaneously start talking about what they or their family went through, how they feel about it, and how they or their family recovered from the ordeal.
I (Christina) wanted to rectify that by sitting down with my old friend Chie Furuya, whose parents (as tiny children), grandparents, and other family members were “sent to camp”, to ask her about it. The answers and stories she had for me were both fascinating and unexpectedly heartening. Her people are a resilient, cheerful people and I feel like there are life lessons for all of us here, in terms of withstanding and recovering from severe injustice (and coming out on top).
Ariel’s addition to this episode description is to point out that Japanese internment occurred in Canada in the early 20th century as well. We (by which she means Canada, or perhaps so-called Canada, as she likes to call it) aren't some bastion of anti-racism and tolerant plurality (if we ever were). Check out our blog post for links for further edification if you are interested or want to know more about the Canadian side of the story.

The surname Stinele threw me off (must have been #adopted) but I've got mixed feelings about this. 🤷♂️
Glad that an #Asian family got some of #MiserableMusk 's $ but, then again, I'm disturbed that they are Asians who support #DiaperDon & #MAGA 🤦♂️
If they had any #principles, IMO they would donate all of that money to #StopAsianHate causes but they probably don't realize that #CheapSkateDon & MAGA actually #HATE them because of their #race. 💩

Today is the anniversary of the worst mass lynching in American history. The Los Angeles Chinese massacre of 1871.

@lucy What makes you think this is limited to the #Fediverse?
Black people have been allowed to get away with racism for a long time because criticizing black people is racist. The black community hates Jews, Asians, white people…the list goes on and on.
Remember when the #StopAsianHate hashtag fizzled out once people started noticing who was attacking all those Asians? 😂

#StopAsianHate #DomesticViolence
The media has reported the murder of 4 or 5 family members in Alameda, but has not commented on the race of the parties involved.
A picture of the husband & wife shown on TV indicates that the husband who allegedly committed this crime was white & his wife was Asian.
The motivation for this killing obviously arises from a domestic dispute -- which is the cause of much violence -- but all too often the stories I read are about a white husband killing an Asian wife.
The line between #AsianHate & domestic violence is a thin one IMO, especially when it involves #interracial #marriages between a white man & an Asian women; the latter who are so often reportedly the victims of violence in such unions.
