@MLNow My mother used to take me to a #ChineseOpera for company when I was a child but I hated it because I didn't speak or understand the language (& still don't beyond a very rudimentary level) & the because the sound was so "foreign" & unappealing to me. 🤷♂️
I couldn't even stand to listen to the entirety of the short Chinese Opera audio clip embedded in this article. 🤢
She stopped taking me any Chinese opera performances because I was very vocal about not liking it &, unlike my inability to speak #Cantonese better, I do not regret not attending another Chinese Opera performance since.
OBTW, I don't much like attending or listening to European Opera either. 🤷♂️

Here’s a cool digital exhibit:
Bringing 1920s San Francisco Chinatown to Life on Google Arts & Culture
It is divided into four parts and is a result of a collaboration between CAAM (Center for Asian American Media), Google Arts Culture, National Trust for Historic Preservation and Chinatown Media Arts Collaborative.

Naar de Chinese opera (Wu-opera) voor het nieuwe Chinese maanjaar. Het programma belooft veel moois en ik zit bijna óp het podium.

Three cheers for opera troupes who broadcast their 9:30 am performances. They happily coincide with my cocktail hour here in San Francisco.
(The Dapingdiao 大平調 troupe of Neihuang 內黃 county performs “Li Yanlong Tames the South 李彥龍征 aka The Two Scholars 文武雙狀元”)
You’ll occasionally find troupes in that region who give three performances a day, each performance lasting 3-4 hours with an hour+ break in between shows.
Bring your own chair.
