"Zohran Mamdani’s historic victory in New York’s Democratic Party primary for mayor in June 2025 and victory in the general election on Tuesday has provided a dose of hope to a Left seeking a path forward amid a dire political landscape. His campaign succeeded by offering real solutions to working-class concerns — including on climate policy and its connection to New Yorkers’ material conditions.
The climate crisis is heightening the cost-of-living crisis. As a political issue, climate has become less of a priority with voters, with the economy surpassing it in poll after poll since 2019. But this does not mean that people have stopped caring about the climate crisis. The pressing affordability crisis is front of mind for most. People need to believe and see the climate crisis not as an economic burden but as an opportunity to make their lives more affordable. Mamdani’s campaign did this with a laser focus on material improvements in working-class people’s daily lives through climate action via promises like fast and free public buses.
Although the Mamdani campaign has not framed his buses proposal in terms of public democratic ownership, the focus on rebuilding the capacity of an already existing public institution, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), to act like a public good through public investment is in line with public democratic ownership. After forty years of neoliberalism, many public entities function like private corporations, prioritizing revenue over public service. Mamdani’s plan challenges this trend.
Simultaneously, fast and free buses is also the exact climate policy necessary to curb greenhouse gas emissions by reducing the number of cars on the road. Public democratic ownership should not be seen as a silver bullet, but rather as a democratic mechanism that offers the ability to plan and intervene for the public good ..."

#AI + the question of #ownership: "#TeHiku shows that when AI tools are built by organizations with entirely different #incentive structures in place, they can produce wildly different results. As long as AI is designed for the purposes of the #competitive #accumulation of capital, firms will continue to find ways to exploit labor, degrade the environment, take short cuts in data extraction, and compromise on safety, because if they don’t, one of their competitors will."

Getting rid of Dems like Schumer and Jeffries will be ESSENTIAL. Esp if they agree with doddering dipshit, #GenocideJoe who promised to VETO any medicare-for-all bill that came to his desk. Yes, we have to get rid of the RepugniQants first--but those useless assholes need to go.
This makes it clear HOW to frame the messages. And that's EASY. We ALREADY pay for healthcare in our taxes--and in the cruelty of the current corrupt, fucked up "system" of theft and harm/killing. And there's ALREADY PLENTY OF RESOURCES to tap to pay for it. Tax the 0.1% MUCH higher. Financial transaction tax (tiny one). Cut the bloated, corrupt and incompetently run military.

"In The End of History and the Last Man, Fukuyama claims that the new age of neoliberal consensus he predicted would be “a very sad time,” void of the “daring, courage, imagination, and idealism” that ideological struggle inspires. In the place of these romantic ideals, he believed the new millennium promised only “centuries of boredom,” a restless utopia dissatisfied with its own perfection.
However, this prediction could not have proved further from the truth. Thirty years later, we are living in an era of unprecedented noise and excitement: constantly distracted by viral moments that jostle for our already thinly drawn attention. Within this febrile atmosphere, even the act of critique is hampered. Political theorists have found themselves unable to maintain a coherent context in which to develop their own ideas, as the landscape around them continues to fluctuate and all that is solid melts into air.
In spite of these challenges, Hyperpolitics represents Jäger’s effort to ground our ungrounded moment in a clear genealogy. In this regard, he is successful. And while the outlook is bleak, there are reasons for hope that Jäger could not have predicted when submitting his final copyedits."

FESTIVAL ALTRI MONDI ALTRI MODI – VANCHIGLIA QUARTIERE PARTIGIANO
Comitato MuBasta/Rione Pilastro

Those dreams — of land, of dignified labor — echo far beyond Brazil. They underlie the struggles of India’s #Dalits, South Africa’s #squatters, and peasants from Colombia to the Philippines. That universal quality led the world’s largest coalition of rural movements, La #VíaCampesina, to declare April 17 the International Day of Peasant Struggle.

gängige Narrative aus Politik nicht infrage -
"Refreshingly, Trevor Jackson’s new book detailing the history of capitalism, The Insatiable Machine: How Capitalism Conquered the World, is surprisingly slim, comprising less than 250 pages of text. Jackson, an economic historian at the University of California, Berkeley, has attempted to provide a synthetic work that translates the recent findings of academic economists into a readable historical narrative for nonexperts. His judicious treatment of controversies in economic history is a highlight.
Jackson seeks to explain how capitalism became the globally dominant economic force by the end of the long nineteenth century. He argues that capitalism’s domination was not intentionally worked out by anyone in advance but rather was the unforeseen result of a series of decisions over the course of centuries by economic actors pursuing their own particular interests. Its proliferation has brought not only rising living standards but also great suffering and environmental catastrophe in train. Even if these are not particularly original observations, they are fundamental components of any competent history of capitalism.
Unlike many who cast a critical eye on capitalism, Jackson does not write as a Marxist or, really, an adherent of any other readily identifiable ideological lineage. He does recognize that his narrative is broadly compatible with both Marxist and more mainstream traditions in economic history. The only perspective Jackson clearly distances himself from — and rightly so — is the Adam Smith–inspired position that capitalism is a logical expression of human nature"
