Basically, the Future Made in Australia fund is $$22.7 billion over 10 years that the Federal Government is investing in net zero and local manufacturing.
The manufacturing component is supposed to be for "sectors where some level of domestic capability is necessary or efficient to deliver adequate economic resilience and security. The private sector would not invest in this capability in the absence of public investment."
An AI data centre doesn't fit the bill. But call that data centre a 'token manufacturing facility' and claim LLMs are a sector "where some level of domestic capability is necessary or efficient to deliver adequate economic resilience and security" and suddenly... Potential Federal funding!
It's basically data centre speculators trying to syphon money that should be used to keep facilities like the Whyalla steel mill open and modernise those facilities, and instead funnel it into the AI bubble.
