A Look Back at X-Men 2099 #20 (1995)

Welcome back, superhero enthusiasts, 1990s culture enthusiasts, X-Men fans and comic book collectors! Today we revisit the Marvel Comics shared universe through one of the many tales of the X-Men 2099 monthly series.  

The past few issues followed the developments seen through the eyes of separated X-Men members – Meanstreak who assisted Halloween Jack’s move to take Las Vegas away from the Synge family, Krystalin who has been in California to help her brother, and Shakti who recently uncovered something about the legacy of mutants. That said, Bloodhawk’s absence was really noticeable and this was because Marvel Comics had him appear in a few Doom 2099 comic books set in the Savage Land.

With those details laid down, here is a look back at X-Men 2099 #20, published by Marvel Comics in 1995 with a story written by John Francis Moore and drawn by Ron Lim.

Early story

The story begins in the Arizona desert where Bloodhawk flies over the wasteland. He just returned from the Savage Land and he immediately notices huge tracks left behind by some kind of large machine and they are radiated. He notices a sick and radiated coyote approach. Bloodhawk grabs the coyote, says some words to it and kills it to end its suffering.

Meanwhile at the ACME Pit Stop (a roadside tradition of fuel and food since the year 2047), a conflict between business owner Cyrus and Lou Ann is taking place with lots of bystanders watching. Their conflict gets disrupted as a massive, large robot suddenly arrived causing everyone to panic. The robot grabs a long rig and threw it at the ground causing a huge explosion.

Bloodhawk, who raided one of his weapons cashes to arm himself with grenades, quickly flies in to attack the giant robot…

Quality

To point out the obvious, the main feature here is the focus on Bloodhawk’s return to the American wasteland coming from the Savage Land (chronicled in Doom 2099). By having him encounter a massive robot, it is clear that John Francis Moore and Ron Lim planned this to have a huge storytelling weight and give the X-Men 2099 fans – especially the ones who love Bloodhawk – something to enjoy. Along the way, this comic book has Bloodhawk gaining an unexpected ally which allowed the creators to show some character development on him. As many fans already know, Bloodhawk values nature and despises both technology and modern society as he saw them as devourers of the natural environment. In this comic book, he has a gigantic mechanical problem to deal with and the odds are absolutely against him. That said, Bloodhawk’s tale here is pretty much a big comeback from being absent in the past issues.

Meanwhile, Krystalin finds herself in deeper trouble. After helping the Free Radicals regain their very young but tech-oriented teammate, she finds herself and her brother still trapped by the gang. Continuing from what was symbolized in the previous issues, this comic book sheds light on political symbolism and the radicalized people’s obsession with drastic change in world they believe is controlled by institutions they perceive as oppressive. The Free Radicals have sinister values that make them comparable with real-life evil forces like Black Lives Matter (BLM), Palestinian terrorist group Hamas, Antifa, LGBTQ mobs, Islamists and others. The Free Radical’s youngest member clearly believes that anarchy means freedom.

Conclusion

Crafted with care and symbolism, X-Men 2099 #20 (1995) has two tales that are gripping to follow. The tales of Bloodhawk and Krystalin succeeded with ensuring a gripping read and moving events forward. That said, the stakes of Krystalin’s conflict with the Free Radicals have been raised even more. Those who are very fond of Bloodhawk will have good stuff to enjoy here. This comic book’s only weakness is the rather corny design of the giant robot, and it felt distracting from time to time.

Overall, X-Men 2099 #20 (1995) is recommended.

Decolonize This: Keep Your Woke Politics Off My Bookshelves

“Decolonize your bookshelves.”

Every time I encounter this idiotic phrase, I feel compelled to buy more books by dead white European writers. Or I could simply revisit the ones already colonizing my shelves, those stubborn monuments to literary excellence that have somehow survived without diversity consultants. Apparently my humble home library has been problematic for years without bothering to inform me.

Not merely dead or white. Preferably male, and straight. Preferably from a civilization that built cathedrals, waged several inadvisable wars, pillaged colonies of naked savages, invented something magnificent, and left behind thousands of pages of difficult, glorious prose. Perhaps more limited editions of Shakespeare, Dante, Montaigne. Maybe I shall finally acquire that obscenely expensive hardcover edition of Virgil I have been eyeing. If I am feeling particularly colonial, I might add Heart of Darkness or Robinson Crusoe or Mein Kampf, which are all due for a good reread.

Give me Chaucer. Give me Proust. Give me Miguel de Cervantes. Give me more of Mark Twain, Tolstoy, Charles Dickens, John Milton, Dostoevsky. Stack them obscenely high. Let the shelves groan beneath the accumulated weight of Western civilization until some diversity consultant arrives with a clipboard and suffers cardiac arrest.

Because what in the DEI fuckery is “decolonize your bookshelves” supposed to mean?

There is a peculiar comedy to contemporary progressivism. A movement that never tires of announcing its opposition to policing has developed an extraordinary appetite for becoming the police. The vocabulary police. The pronoun police. The representation police. The cultural-appropriation police. The sensitivity-reader constabulary. And now, apparently, the bookshelf police.

You’d expect the knock at the door any day now. “Good evening, citizen. We have received reports that your Russian literature section is disproportionately male.”

I confess. Take me away.

Somewhere along the way, reading, that most private and gloriously antisocial of activities, became yet another territory apparently requiring ideological supervision. It is no longer enough simply to read a book, enjoy it, hate it, argue with it, throw it across the room, underline half of it, scribble manic marginalia all over its pages, or abandon it after eighty pages because life is short and the prose is unbearable. No. Now you must apparently “interrogate” the racial composition of your shelves, audit the geographic provenance of your authors, examine whether your reading habits reproduce structures of imperial domination, and presumably submit your whole fucking collection for inspection by the Ministry of Virtuous Consumption.

GTFO. My bookshelves are not a parliamentary body. They do not require proportional representation.

I am Filipino. I live in the Philippines. I also am a transgendered individual, which, according to the increasingly ludicrous assumptions of contemporary political tribalism, ought to place me comfortably within the cultural Left. I should presumably be nodding obediently whenever someone says “decolonize,” “center marginalized voices,” “deconstruct,” or whatever other jargon has escaped from some Democrat-run university in the US and infected ordinary speech all around the world this week. Being Filipino and trans, according to the primitive identity astrology of identity politics, should determine approximately ninety percent of my opinions. They do not. And this bewilders people.

Filipino? Colonized subject. Trans? Progressive constituency. Woman? Feminist bloc. Minority? Presumed marginalized, disenfranchised, oppressed, and therefore should be Left-leaning. You need only feed the demographic information into the ideological machine and out comes the approved worldview, preassembled and ready for installation.

Unfortunately, I appear to have malfunctioned.

I transitioned my gender, not my capacity for independent thought and critical thinking.

Nothing about being trans requires me to pretend that Judith Butler is more important than Shakespeare. Nothing about being Filipino compels me to regard Europe and the USA as some vast cultural crime scene from which all intellectual contraband must be confiscated. Nothing about my personhood requires me to genuflect before every fashionable slogan containing the words “decolonize,” “problematize,” “center,” “decenter,” “interrogate,” or that most ominous verb in the activist lexicon, “unlearn.”

I have spent too much of my life trying to learn things to be impressed by people commanding me to unlearn them. Dear ideological census-takers: I am not a demographic marionette.

Being trans does not obligate me to subscribe to an entire political catechism. Neither does living in a formerly colonized country require me to regard Western civilization with suspicion, resentment, or theatrical guilt. I am perfectly capable of recognizing the brutality of colonialism without pretending that Sophocles, Shakespeare, Dante, Dostoevsky, Cervantes, Montaigne, Milton, Goethe, Austen, Dickens, Tolstoy, and the rest must now stand trial because history contains conquest.

History contains conquest everywhere.

If I had to purify my reading according to the bloodstained histories of civilizations, I would eventually be left reading the back of a cereal box. And even then some libtard wokester would undoubtedly inform me that breakfast cereal participates in capitalism.

The phrase “decolonize your bookshelves” does contain a legitimate observation buried beneath several geological layers of fashionable bullshit: the literary world is larger than Europe and North America. Of course it is. Asia existed before social media discovered it. Africa had civilizations before diversity officers began putting maps of it into PowerPoint presentations.

The Arabs wrote philosophy, mathematics, history, medicine, and poetry while large portions of Europe were busy stabbing one another with farming implements. India possesses literary and philosophical traditions older than many European nations. China produced philosophy, poetry, historiography, political thought, painting, and criticism on a scale that makes much contemporary book discourse look like the intellectual equivalent of finger painting. Japan gave the world The Tale of Genji while vast regions of the modern literary world had not yet conceived of anything resembling the novel.

Read all of it. Read Africans. Read Indians. Read Chinese and Japanese writers. Read Arabs and Persians. Read Latin Americans. Read Southeast Asians. Read ancient epics, modern novels, obscure poetry, sacred texts, dirty stories, philosophical treatises, revolutionary pamphlets.

But read them because they are good. That distinction matters. Read them because they disturb you, delight you, educate you, seduce you, offend you, enrage you, enlarge you. Read them because a passage makes you put the book down and stare at the wall. Read them because their characters follow you into sleep. Read them because something inside the work reaches across geography and across centuries and seizes you by the throat.

Do not read them because someone handed you a moral spreadsheet. There is an enormous difference between expanding the consciousness and balancing an ideological ledger. One is education. The other is Human Resources with footnotes.

The instant literature becomes demographic bookkeeping, art is degraded into sociology. The writer becomes a specimen. The reader becomes a census worker. A Nigerian novelist is no longer simply a novelist but “an African voice.” A Japanese writer becomes “Asian representation.” A gay author is processed through sexuality. A woman becomes feminist studies. A Filipino becomes postcolonial testimony. Everything individual, eccentric, monstrous, brilliant, contradictory, aesthetically strange, or gloriously cosmic gets flattened beneath the great bureaucratic steamroller of identity.

This is supposedly “respect.” It strikes me as condescension wearing expensive glasses.

This is where the whole enterprise becomes ridiculous. The moment literature is reduced to demographic bookkeeping, reading ceases to be an encounter with minds and becomes another diversity exercise. The author stops being an artist and becomes a representative specimen. The reader stops asking, “Is this beautiful? Is this good? Is this consciousness-expanding?” and begins asking whether the appropriate identity boxes have been ticked.

What an insult to literature. And, quite frankly, what an insult to non-Western writers.

Imagine being told that somebody selected your novel not primarily because of its prose, imagination, philosophical power, humor, psychological insight, or narrative brilliance, but because his or her reading list was suffering from an unacceptable melanin deficit. How flattering. Nothing says respect quite like turning writers into diversity decorations.

If I were a novelist, I would be insulted if somebody read me because I was trans. Read me because I wrote something worth reading. Despise me because I wrote something worth despising. Argue with me. Laugh at me. Underline me. Throw the book across the room. But spare me the indignity of being consumed like an ethically sourced vegetable because somebody’s reading list needed another minority. Tokenism did not become noble merely because some Left-leaning cultural Marxist English professors gave it better vocabulary.

I’d rather read a brilliant Nigerian novelist because the novelist is brilliant than because somebody told me my bookshelf contained too many white Europeans. I’d rather encounter Japanese literature through curiosity than obligation. I’d rather discover a transgender writer because something about the work seized me than because I was instructed that supporting “my own” literature constitutes some civic or ethnic duty. Books deserve better than this. Readers deserve better too.

Reducing creators to their demographic coordinates is profoundly anti-art. Great artists are not representatives of categories. Quite often they are traitors to categories. They embarrass their nations, insult their classes, betray the expectations of their sex, contradict their politics, scandalize their contemporaries, and occasionally make complete fools of their admirers. That is why they are interesting. Great art is unruly. It refuses to behave. It does not sit politely beneath a placard saying QUEER FILIPINO VOICES or POSTCOLONIAL WOMEN’S NARRATIVES like a museum artifact awaiting institutional approval. Great literature bites. It seduces. It blasphemes. It contradicts itself. It travels illegally across cultures and across centuries.

Homer belongs to me as much as he belongs to Greece. Dante belongs to a Japanese atheist. Confucius belongs to an Irish Catholic. Dostoevsky belongs to an African Muslim. James Joyce belongs to anyone who has the patience to read him. Civilization advances precisely because human beings steal intellectual fire from one another. That is culture. The alternative is cultural segregation with politically correct branding.

The Canon is not sacred scripture. Of course it can expand. It has expanded. It will continue expanding. That is what a living civilization does. Literary judgment is neither frozen nor infallible. But expansion is not demolition. And appreciation is not a zero-sum game.

Reading Toni Morrison does not require burning Faulkner. Reading Achebe does not necessitate apologizing for Conrad. Reading Murasaki does not oblige me to remove Austen from the shelf. I can read Nick Joaquin in the morning and Montaigne at night without suffering ideological contamination.

One of the supreme pleasures of serious reading is precisely this promiscuity of the mind. You, the reader, owe allegiance to nobody. The Western Canon has become particularly offensive to the bureaucratic imagination because it is stubbornly unequal. It is hierarchical. Some works really are better than others. Some writers really are greater than others. Some books contain depths that ten thousand respectable novels do not.

This is intolerable to a culture increasingly uncomfortable with hierarchy except when disguised as morality. They pretend that all judgments of greatness are merely exercises of power because admitting that greatness exists means confronting standards that cannot be democratized by administrative decree.

Shakespeare is not merely one “voice” among many. He is Shakespeare. The Shakespearean plays contain an almost terrifying range of human consciousness. Kings, drunks, fools, murderers, lovers, tyrants, cowards, soldiers, virgins, schemers, clowns, grieving fathers, ambitious wives, melancholy princes. Four centuries later, humanity is still rummaging through them looking for its soul. Dante is not important because medieval Italian men require representation. Homer is not assigned because ancient Greek masculinity deserves greater visibility. Austen is not valuable because Regency-era white women finally got a seat at the table. Dostoevsky does not survive because nineteenth-century Russian Orthodox neurotics constitute an underserved demographic. These formulations sound ridiculous because they are ridiculous. The works exceeded their authors’ demographics. That is precisely why they survived.

The Western Canon, for all the fashionable sneering directed at the very phrase, did not emerge because white men gathered secretly in a candlelit basement and conspired to ruin future diversity initiatives. Many canonical works survived because generation after generation found them inexhaustible. This is why I find the attack on the Western Canon so tedious. The Canon is not sacred scripture. It is not infallible. It is not finished. It has changed before and will change again. Forgotten writers are rediscovered. Neglected works are restored. New books, at rare times, enter the conversation. Most others quietly and unceremoniously descend into deserved oblivion.

Shakespeare persists because Shakespeare is fucking good. Dante persists because seven centuries later people are still descending into Hell with him. Homer persists because Achilles still rages. Dostoevsky persists because human beings continue to torment themselves with guilt, pride, faith, freedom, resentment, murder, and God. Austen persists because vanity and stupidity remain renewable resources.

These writers are not great because they are Western. They are great because their works have demonstrated an almost indecent capacity to survive interpretation, revolution, war, cultural transformation, political fashion, and academic assault. Fashion expires. Jargon goes stale. Homer remains. And perhaps that durability itself is offensive to people who imagine that history began five minutes after they learned the word “intersectional.” Great literature performs the miracle that identity politics, for all its rhetoric about empathy, continually risks undermining: it allows one consciousness to enter another without requiring demographic permission.

I have never been a Russian murderer tormented by metaphysics, yet Dostoevsky still speaks to me. I have never been an aging English butler embalmed in emotional repression, yet Ishiguro can still devastate me. I have never wandered through medieval Hell guided by Virgil. Yet Dante remains imaginable. I have never hunted a white whale, ruled Denmark, fought at Troy, attended a nineteenth-century English marriage market, or discovered that my father had been murdered by my uncle. Thank God literature does not require lived experience. Otherwise we would all be condemned to autobiographical narcissism.

Perhaps this is my deepest objection to the ideological colonization of reading: it shrinks literature while pretending to expand it. Find your identity. Find your representation. Find your community. See yourself. Center yourself. Your race. Your gender. Your sexuality. Your nation. Your trauma. Your marginalization. Your perspective. What suffocating provincialism.

The entire point of literature is that for several hundred pages I do not have to be myself. I am already myself all fucking day. Give me someone else. Give me a medieval monk, a Roman emperor, an adulterous Russian aristocrat, a Japanese court lady, a mad king, a murderer, a slave, an aristocrat, a saint, a nihilist, a peasant, a whaler, a prostitute, a philosopher. Give me people whose moral assumptions horrify me. Give me civilizations whose gods I do not worship. Give me writers who would have considered my existence incomprehensible. Especially them. Reading should not be ideological comfort food.

The dead are valuable partly because they do not know our commandments. Their alienness is the point. They arrive from moral universes that cannot be reconstructed according to contemporary sensitivities without destroying the very historical distance that makes them worth encountering. Their ignorance liberates them. They are also wonderfully difficult to cancel because they are already dead. This is one of the great advantages of the dead. They cannot issue apologies. No publicist can force Aristotle to post a Notes App statement. Dante will not be attending sensitivity training. Tolstoy cannot be summoned before the Diversity Committee. Homer has no social-media accounts to delete. Catullus will not be revising his language after feedback from the community. The dead remain gloriously unmanageable.

And what astonishing arrogance it takes for every generation of comfortable moderns to imagine itself morally superior to the entirety of the past. We sit surrounded by technologies we did not invent, institutions we inherited, languages shaped by the dead, artistic forms refined over millennia, and then announce ourselves enlightened because we have mastered the vocabulary of a diversity training seminar.

The fashionable historical narrative is equally childish: civilization divided neatly into oppressors and oppressed, with moral virtue attaching itself automatically to whichever population happened to lose the most recent war. Human history is not a morality play. It is a slaughterhouse with libraries.

Empires rose and fell on every inhabited continent. Peoples conquered and were conquered. Kingdoms enslaved, traded, massacred, assimilated, intermarried, converted, rebelled, and conquered again. Aztecs tore hearts from human chests. Mongol armies left pyramids of skulls. Imperial China expanded. Arab empires expanded. African kingdoms fought and enslaved their neighbors. Japan built an empire. Europeans eventually conquered on a planetary scale because technological, naval, military, and economic circumstances gave them the capacity to do so.

This is called history. It is horrible. It is magnificent. It is tragic. It is human. Every civilization has blood on its hands. Every civilization has beauty in its ruins. Frequently the same civilization produced both before lunch.

That does not excuse atrocity. It merely rescues history from the infantile fantasy that humanity consisted of innocent peoples living peacefully beneath mango trees until the British arrived with capitalism and problematic adjectives.

Colonialism should be studied honestly. So should the civilizations that colonial powers encountered. So should what preceded colonialism, what survived it, what resisted it, what collaborated with it, and what emerged afterward. But history becomes intellectually useless when converted into a system for awarding hereditary moral credit and debt. I did not conquer anybody. Shakespeare did not colonize the Philippines. My copy of The Divine Comedy has never oppressed a peasant. Books are not guilty by association.

The tendency to treat Western civilization itself as a kind of radioactive substance is particularly absurd because the intellectual weapons used to attack “the West” are so often Western inventions: historical criticism, liberal individualism, universal human rights, anti-slavery arguments, modern feminism, socialism, postcolonial theory itself.

History has a sense of humor, sometimes an exceptionally cruel one. It is also worth noticing how closely the new moral bureaucracy resembles the old religious structures it imagines itself to have transcended. It has original sin: privilege. It has confession: “I acknowledge my positionality.” It has penance: performative allyship. It has saints and martyrs. It has heresy. It has excommunication. It has ritual language that identifies the faithful. It even has indulgences, although these are now processed through nonprofit organizations. And like every religion entering its decadent bureaucratic phase, it eventually comes for the books. That is where my political patience evaporates.

I grew up thinking liberalism meant intellectual freedom: speak, read, debate, offend, inquire, contradict, doubt. Increasingly, parts of the cultural Left appear to mean something rather different: speak, provided the approved vocabulary is used; read, provided representation is balanced; debate, provided foundational assumptions remain untouched; offend, provided the correct people are offended; doubt, provided the doubt travels in the permitted direction. That is not liberalism. That is etiquette enforced by ideology. And yes, bullshit like this pushes me further away from the contemporary Left and toward the Right. Not because I have acquired mystical reverence for every Conservative politician. God forbid. The Right has its own censorious idiots, book banners, fundamentalists, moral panics, philistines, and provincial busybodies who would happily empty half a library because a teenager encountered an uncomfortable sentence. Fuck them too. I have no interest in replacing the commissar with the church lady. The principle remains the same: Keep your politics off my books.

But the peculiar betrayal of contemporary progressivism is that the Left once claimed intellectual liberation as part of its inheritance. It opposed censorship. It mocked bourgeois prudery. It defended transgression, obscenity, experimental art, sexual freedom, dangerous ideas. Now portions of it behave like Victorian matrons armed with sociology degrees. One wrong word and everyone reaches for the smelling salts. The new puritanism has rainbow stationery. The new church ladies have pronouns in their bios. The new censors call censorship “harm reduction.” What a fucking joke.

Art cannot flourish permanently beneath moral supervision. Neither can thought. A civilization frightened of offensive books will eventually become incapable of producing interesting ones.

The great canonical writers were rarely well-behaved. They were obsessive, cruel, lustful, arrogant, neurotic, reactionary, radical, intoxicated, devout, atheist, misanthropic, contradictory. Some held views so grotesquely incompatible with contemporary sensibilities that a modern publishing house would require three sensitivity readers, two publicists, a crisis-management team, and probably an exorcist. Good. I do not read literature in search of human-resource compliance. I want genius, not good citizenship. And I especially reject the suggestion that my being trans somehow imposes an ideological debt upon me.

This expectation is itself a form of prejudice, although an unfashionable one to acknowledge. It assumes that people who share an identity must share politics. It treats minorities not as individuals but as electoral property. Depart from the approved position and confusion follows.

“How can you be trans and think that?” Very easily.

If living outside conventional expectations has taught me anything, it is that one should be suspicious of anybody demanding conformity while promising liberation. I did not go through the trouble of becoming myself merely to become somebody else’s demographic mascot. My identity is not a political subscription service. My existence does not come bundled with mandatory opinions. And my bookshelf certainly does not.

This is one reason contemporary progressivism increasingly repels me despite the identity category into which strangers might automatically place me. I am tired of politics that assumes demographic identity determines intellectual obligation. I am tired of the insinuation that because I am trans I must think certain things, use certain terminology, admire certain causes, despise certain people, and subscribe wholesale to an ideological package assembled by activists I do not have the slightest ounce of respect.

Literature is supposed to expose you to dangerous minds. Wicked minds. Brilliant minds. Wrong minds. Alien minds. People separated from you by oceans, centuries, religions, languages, classes, civilizations, and moral universes.

I do not need any author to resemble me. If literature existed merely to provide mirrors, reading would become unbearably narcissistic. Sure, sometimes I want a mirror. Sometimes I want a window. Sometimes I want someone to drag me by the hair into a world whose assumptions I despise. That friction is part of the education.

The increasing moralization of reading therefore bothers me not merely because it is silly but because it attacks something fundamental: the sovereignty of private judgment: “You should read this instead of that. You need to interrogate this. Decenter these voices. Center those voices. Do the work.”

Must I? I thought I was reading books, not accepting party instructions.

First came the endless quarrels over permitted vocabulary, mandatory terminology, approved labels, forbidden phrases, prescribed gender-neutral nouns, and the politics supposedly concealed within ordinary speech. Now even the quiet act of sitting in a chair with a novel attracts ideological scrutiny.

There is something glaringly totalitarian in the impulse, even when the people exercising it believe themselves benevolent: the conviction that no private corner of human life should remain politically innocent. Everything must signify. Everything must declare allegiance. Everything must be interpreted through power. Everything must be corrected. No, thank you. And fuck off. Sometimes a bookshelf is simply a bookshelf. Mine, incidentally, contains plenty of dead white men. I hope it will eventually contain even more. It also contains writers from everywhere else. But the organizing principle will remain stubbornly reactionary: great books I want to read. What a scandalous concept. The bookshelf is not a model United Nations. No author, black or white, dead or alive, has a human right to fifteen centimeters of shelf space.

A personal library is an autobiography of appetite. It records curiosity, prejudice, discovery, admiration, boredom, obsession, intellectual humiliation, bad purchases, magnificent accidents. Here is the book I adored. Here is the bastard that took me three weeks. Here is the novel everybody praised that bored me senseless. Here is a writer I expected to hate, but ended up liking. Here is a philosopher who changed my way of thinking. Here is an author whose politics disgust me and whose prose I would crawl across broken glass to endure. That chaos is intellectual life. A library should reveal the shape of a mind, not the composition of a census district.

I will read Filipino writers when I want to read Filipino writers. I will read Africans, Japanese, Indians, Chinese, Arabs, Latin Americans, Russians, Americans, Europeans. Women, men, gays, lesbians, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, atheists, conservatives, monarchists, libertines, revolutionaries, reactionaries, lunatics, saints, sinners. And I will read dead white men until the shelves collapse. Not because they are dead white men who are deemed canonical. Because some of them were fucking magnificent. No slogan changes that. No curriculum committee repeals it. No diversity initiative can make Shakespeare mediocre by decree. No fashionable theory can render Homer obsolete.

The Western Canon may be questioned, revised, enlarged, argued with, mocked, supplemented, rediscovered. Excellent. Argument is civilization. But I will not participate in the ludicrous ritual of treating Western civilization as cultural toxic waste. The West produced empire, slavery, fanaticism, war, exploitation, hypocrisy, and oceans of blood. It also produced Socrates, Plato, the Parthenon, Roman law, Gothic cathedrals, Renaissance paintings, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Shakespeare, Cervantes, the Enlightenment, modern science, constitutional government, capitalism, liberalism, the modern novel, and intellectual traditions that made it possible to criticize Western civilization with extraordinary freedom. Civilizations are amoral. They are vast accumulations of achievement and horror.

Maturity consists partly in being able to hold both facts in one’s head without requiring one to cancel the other. I refuse to hate beauty because its creators were imperfect. I refuse to abandon genius because history was brutal. I refuse to pretend that civilization can be purified retroactively according to the moral fashions of 2026. And I certainly refuse to allow activists, academics, ideologues, politicians, clerics, progressives, or any other species of cultural Marxism to tell me what moral meaning attaches to the books sitting in my house.

The Western Canon will survive “decolonization” campaigns for the simple reason that genuinely great literature is exceptionally difficult to kill. Academic fashions come and go with almost comic regularity. Yesterday’s indispensable theoretical apparatus becomes tomorrow’s intellectual embarrassment. Jargon ages faster than milk. Homer remains. Shakespeare remains. Dante remains. Perhaps that durability itself irritates people. The dead are inconveniently difficult to cancel.

So decolonize your bookshelf if you wish. Colonize it. Recolonize it. Arrange it alphabetically, chronologically. Arrange it by genre. Arrange it by the authors’ skin color like some aesthetically deranged Instagrammer. Read nothing but black lesbian women for a year. Read nothing but queer literature. Spend six months with the deconstructionists and post-structuralists. Become temporarily obsessed with African-American literature. Read the Bible beside Nietzsche, Marx beside Hayek, Freud beside the people who dismantled Freud, Foucault beside anybody capable of writing a clear sentence. Hunt for every lesser-known Penguin Modern Classic you can afford until your floorboards begin making ominous sounds. But choose for yourself. That is the principle worth defending.

My personal library is not an ideological display cabinet. It is a record of curiosity, preference, prejudice, discovery, admiration, boredom, obsession, bad purchases, magnificent accidents, and the long education of one autonomous, autodidact mind. Nobody gets to decolonize that for me.

My bookshelves will remain gloriously colonized by everybody: Greek poets, Russian lunatics, English spinsters, French libertines, Japanese aesthetes, Filipino revolutionaries, German pessimists, American drunks, Indian epic poets, dead aristocrats, living misfits. No quotas. No purity tests. No diversity clipboard. No moral accounting department. Only the oldest and most dangerous criterion in literature: Is it any fucking good? If yes, put it on the shelf.

And if somebody objects because the author possesses the wrong skin color, nationality, sex, politics, century, civilization, or position within the fashionable hierarchy of oppression, there remains a perfectly concise piece of literary criticism suitable for the occasion:

Fuck off. I’m reading.

Trump Administration Trashes Biden-era Title IX Rules, Sex Officially Defined by Biology

Remember all the craziness that used to infect the United States during the term of the failed US President Joe Biden and his woke administration? Common sense in America continues to get restored as the Trump Administration will proceed with formally removing the Biden-era Title IX regulations and this includes restoring rules that were in place during the first term of President Donald J. Trump, according to a Breitbart news report.

The Department of Education said Monday it will formally remove the Biden administration’s Title IX regulations and restore rules issued during President Donald Trump’s first term.

The change takes effect Tuesday. Under the final rule issued Monday, the Education Department’s anti-discrimination policy will recognize sex as male or female at birth. It formally removes Biden-era regulations that extended protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity to students and employees at federally funded schools.

The 2024 rules also forced schools to use transgender students’ pronouns and changed how schools handle harassment complaints. A federal court struck down the rules in January 2025.

The Education Department then told schools it would enforce the 2020 rules. Monday’s action puts that change into the published federal regulations; schools have already been operating under the earlier rules.

The department said the last lawsuits over the Biden rules were dismissed in August, clearing the way for it to formally remove them. Education Secretary Linda McMahon said the move would make the written regulations match the court rulings and the rules her department has been enforcing since Trump returned to office:

While the intention to solve the problems connected with illegal foreign workers is clear, the government of Japan still has varied obstacles that needs to be cleared in order to launch an effective crackdown.

Japan’s Immigration Services Agency will boost cooperation with other government divisions to crack down on illegal foreign workers.

Starting as early as October, agency officials will join land ministry inspections of demolition and construction sites.

The land ministry conducts regular patrols of demolition and construction sites. However, its construction-related officials do not have the authority to verify the identities of foreign nationals, even when they are suspected of working illegally.

To address this issue, the Immigration Services Agency will send immigration control officers to participate in these patrols, as these officers have the authority to ask foreign residents to show their residence cards, which they are required to carry under the immigration control and refugee recognition law.

The agency also plans to collaborate with the Environment Ministry, which oversees outdoor storage yards for waste plastics and scrap metal.

Immigrant from the Philippines Pleads Guilty to Illegally Voting in 2024 US Presidential Election

There definitely is such a thing as illegally voting in elections in the United States. Since Donald Trump returned as US President in 2025, the government has been unrelenting on pushing back against illegal immigration while restoring the integrity of American elections. That said, an immigrant from the Philippines pleaded guilty to voting illegally in the US Presidential election of 2024 and it happened just months after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under failed US President Joe Biden approved her for the green card, according to a news report by Breitbart.

Last week, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that 37-year-old Evelyn Miller of the Philippines, who resided in Emmaus, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty to illegal voting.

On Monday, Breitbart News learned that Miller, who was approved for a green card by Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in July 2024, registered to vote on October 9, 2024, and illegally voted in the presidential election on November 5, 2024.

“This alien from the Philippines pleaded guilty to illegally voting in the 2024 election in Pennsylvania,” DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said in a statement. “Thanks to the hard work of the men and women of HSI, as well as our partners at the Department of Justice, this alien will soon face justice for her efforts to subvert our elections. American elections are for Americans only.”

In the investigation, Miller confessed to Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents that she registered to vote online ahead of the election and voted in person on Election Day.

A Look Back at X-Men 2099 #17 (1995)

Welcome back, superhero enthusiasts, 1990s culture enthusiasts, X-Men fans and comic book collectors! Today we revisit the Marvel Comics shared universe through one of the many tales of the X-Men 2099 monthly series.  

I like the way the direction of the series went with issue #16. The X-Men are in disarray and they are not even complete nor are they stable enough for any opposing force that could come their way. As Krystalin went to California for an uneasy reunion with her brother, Meanstreak has the past catching up to him. Firstly, he is not comfortable with Luna (Skullfire’s former tormentor and romantic partner) being part of their team. Secondly, a friend of his from Alchemax returned but in a radically different form.

With those details laid down, here is a look back at X-Men 2099 #17, published by Marvel Comics in 1995 with a story written by John Francis Moore and drawn by Ron Lim.

Early story

The story begins with Meanstreak and Halloween Jack (Jordan Boone who previously appeared as Loki during the Fall of the Hammer storyline) arriving in Las Vegas. Halloween Jack tells his pal that they benefit a lot from Las Vegas once they reshape it to their desires. For Meanstreak, trusting Jordan Boone (his friend since their days at the Alchemax academy) is very tough as he has changed so drastically into a dangerous psychopath as Halloween Jack. Jordan tells his fast friend that revenge is motivating him to take over Las Vegas.

Deep inside the Synge Casino & Hotel, Desdemona appears to her fallen brother Lytton who is paying the penalty of having murdered their late father Noah Synge. Even though he is in prison and has been isolated, Lytton remains addicted to shriek

Quality

This comic book has two main plot threads – one is about Meanstreak and the obsessed Halloween Jack tackling the top of the Synge empire by confronting Desdemona personally, and the other follows Krystalin in California. Thematically, the two main plot threads are about dealing with the past and doing something with the future in mind.

In the case of Meanstreak (now separated many miles away from his teammates), his uneasy reunion with Jordan Boone puts him into a direct encounter with the head of the Synge empire which itself has a powerful grasp on Las Vegas. Meanstreak is witnessing Halloween Jack’s move to take over the city which effectively puts him in a very awkward position and none of the X-Men could help him.

As for Krystalin, she has the burden of dealing with her brother Zak who is obsessed with the ways of Wakanda and still lives with the obsession that everyone – including his sister – has to follow the Wakandan ways and agenda even if it means betraying the X-Men and their mother’s legacy. In fact, Zak here is pretty extreme and there are hints of racism and discrimination in his beliefs. This comic book also reveals the conflict of beliefs between Krystalin’s own parents which remains in effect between her and Zak.

Conclusion

With its two plot threads, new sub-plots and character-driven focus, X-Men 2099 #17 (1995) moved this series to a direction that can be described as suspenseful, intriguing and also uncertain. That said, the current state of the X-Men looks even bleaker and more uncertain. Still, this comic book has set up something about Las Vegas and Krystalin’s personal struggle, and I am interested enough to discover more.

Overall, X-Men 2099 #17 (1995) is recommended.

America Sanctions Palestinian Authority and PLO Members

It is official! The United States has officially sanctioned the Palestinian Authority (PA) and members of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) for failing to live up to their commitments as described in two historical commitment acts from 1989 and 2002, the US State Department announced.

As such, the so-called PA president Mahmoud Abbas has been denied an entry visa to the US ahead of the General Assembly of the wicked United Nations (UN). Be aware that the Palestinian Authority is guilty of paying terrorists and actually commits apartheid.

The State Department has reported to Congress that the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Palestinian Authority (PA) have, once again, failed to live up to their commitments as described in the PLO Commitments Compliance Act of 1989 (PLOCCA) and the Middle East Peace Commitments Act of 2002 (MEPCA). This includes initiating and supporting actions at international organizations that undermine and contradict prior commitments in support of Security Council Resolution 242 and 338, taking actions to internationalize the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict including through the International Criminal Court (ICC) and International Court of Justice (ICJ), seeking to bypass negotiations through seeking unilateral recognition, and continuing to pay stipends to terrorists and to glorify acts of terrorism and terrorists in public pronouncements and school textbooks.

As a consequence of their failure to reform, contrary to their commitments to the United States, and their ongoing activities that undermine the prospects for peace, the United States will extend sanctions that deny visas to PLO members and PA officials in accordance with section 604(a)(1) of the MEPCA. The Department has maintained the standing waiver for personnel notified to the PLO Observer Mission to the United Nations as was the case in the Department’s prior determinations. It is in our national interest to impose consequences and hold the PLO and PA accountable for glorifying terrorism.

The United States sanctioned VTB Bank, one of Russia’s largest financial institutions, for helping Iran evade sanctions and sustain its support for terrorism. VTB Bank opened offices in Iran, built banking ties with sanctioned Iranian financial institutions, and worked to move billions of dollars in Iranian assets.

The United States remains steadfast in cutting off the financial lifelines that allow the Iranian regime to fund terrorism, destabilize the region, and threaten U.S. economic security.

Today’s action sends a clear message to governments and financial institutions considering similar arrangements: any effort to help Iran evade sanctions will carry serious consequences, including exposure to U.S. financial restrictions.

Xbox to Publish Hideo Kojima’s Physint, Expands Partnership with Kojima Productions

Welcome back Xbox fans and fellow geeks!

There is still a lot of buzz flowing online as a result of yesterday’s sudden and unexpected breakthrough that boosted Xbox as a video game entity and as an entertainment brand. I am talking about Team Xbox acquiring the right to publish Physint, an ambitious next-generation gaming project by the legendary game creator Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear, Policenauts, Death Stranding) and this is the result of PlayStation’s move to cancel that project internally.

To be clear, Physint started as a project of the PlayStation partnership with Kojima Productions a few years ago. Watch and learn from the official PlayStation video below.

Physint marks Hideo Kojima’s return to the action-espionage genre of gaming. As such, it is a loss on the part of PlayStation and now a significant gain for Xbox which itself has reset its gaming business with improvements in mind.

Being a long-time Xbox fan myself and having played Kojima’s work in Metal Gear games long ago, I am very delighted and surprised by this sudden breakthrough. Kojima already has OD in its partnership with Team Xbox, and to see Physint added is both intriguing and exciting. Also notable is Xbox’s statement that it will collaborate with Kojima’s company across film and television in a serious attempt to entertain a wider audience.

Am I surprised to see PlayStation to step away from its collaboration with Kojima Productions on Physint? Not at all because PlayStation’s leadership has changed so dramatically, the Japanese perspective and interest on video gaming has faded away. There are PlayStation executives who want more live-service games instead of the single-player experiences that have long defined PlayStation’s gaming history and enduring success. PlayStation learned nothing from the multi-million Dollar failure of their exclusive game Concord. Worse, PlayStation itself has turned woke and that means it does not prioritize the interests of gamers anymore. Insomniac is the most blatant example of wokeness in PlayStation and their executives are fine with that. These are facts that many PlayStation fanboys and fangirls don’t want to acknowledge.

Let’s be very clear here…PlayStation betrayed Kojima over the Physint project and it paved the way for Team Xbox to save it and expand their strategic partnership even more. I can feel the PlayStation fanboys/fangirls expressing disappointment and embarrassment right now. Trump’s Immigration Crackdown Empties Mexico Border Shelters

Ever since US President Donald Trump returned to office, the immigration crackdown and tightening implemented by the current administration not only brought illegal crossings down and deported a lot of illegal immigrants/aliens but also made the migrant shelters along Mexico’s northern border getting emptied, according to a news report by Newsmax.

Migrant shelters along Mexico’s northern border are emptying as fewer migrants head to the United States following President Donald Trump’s tighter immigration enforcement and expanded deportation efforts.

For Salome Villena, an Ecuadorean migrant who once planned to cross into the U.S. with her husband and two children, aged 4 and 6, the shifting landscape of U.S. immigration policy helped change those plans. Instead, the family has decided to remain in Ciudad Juarez, where they are among the few people still staying at a local shelter.

“Our intention was to cross into the United States, but because of what Trump did, we couldn’t,” Villena said, referring to changes in U.S. immigration and asylum policies.

The family also considered paying a smuggler to take them across the border, but abandoned the idea after they said the man began stealing their money.

After returning to office, Trump ended one of the main pathways migrants had used to seek entry to the U.S., ending the CBP One app that allowed asylum seekers to schedule appointments at ports of entry. The change left thousands of migrants in border cities such as Ciudad Juarez and prompted Mexican authorities to prepare for a surge in deportees by opening emergency shelters.

Many of those facilities, however, remained largely empty as migrant arrivals fell and deportations were often carried out by air to southern Mexico or other countries.

The drop in migrant flows has been felt across Ciudad Juarez’s shelter network. Juan Fierro, who heads the city’s Good Samaritan shelter, said Trump’s policies had sharply reduced the number of new arrivals.

“It’s becoming increasingly complicated and difficult for people to reach Mexico’s northern border and cross into the United States,” he said.

The shift has altered the makeup of the city’s migrant population, said Dirvan Garcia of the state population council, Coespo.

“We are living something completely different,” Garcia said. “There are a large number of people who initially intended to cross the border but are now putting down roots in the city.“

ICC President Akane Calls Her Organization the “Last Bastion of the Rule of Law”

Tomoko Akane, the incumbent president of the International Criminal Court, called her organization in The Hague the “last bastion of the rule of law” as she labeled America’s sanctions against her illegal and unacceptable, according to a news article by Jiji Press.

This past August, the United States sanctioned Akane and ICC trial lawyer Abdoul Seye of Senegal which is a part of their campaign to dismantle the organization’s threat to American sovereignty. Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae called the sanctions against Akane (a Japanese citizen) “very unfortunate”. It remains to be seen how the ICC sanctions will impact the current state of US-Japan relations and cooperation.

Venezuelan acting President Delcy Rodriguez thanked President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for the oil agreement between the two countries.

The deal drew rave reviews from conservatives and criticism from Democrats.

“That is why we chose the path of diplomacy with the United States of America, to transform our differences into cooperation. And that cooperation into investment, production, well-being, and concrete results for Venezuelans,” Rodriguez said in a televised address Saturday.

“I thank President Donald Trump, Secretary Rubio, and his government for the efforts made by both their administration and ours, as well as the entire Venezuelan team that dedicated their time to reaching this agreement,” she said.

Rodriguez said the pact would run 25 years and target production of more than 1.5 million barrels a day.

Rodriguez added that the change would strengthen energy security in the Western Hemisphere and promote greater stability and balance in global energy markets.

Trump announced the agreement Friday, calling it “THE BIGGEST OIL DEAL IN WORLD HISTORY!”

It covers 65 billion barrels of proven reserves across 17 fields, with the U.S. receiving 55% of output, including an ownership stake.

The White House has described 100-year development rights, a term Rodriguez did not repeat.

US Visa of Biden-awarded Iraqi National Revoked

The United States officially revoked the US visa of Taif Sami Mohammed Al Shakarchi, the Iraqi national who was awarded by the failed Biden Administration in 2022, according to US State Department citing her placement on the Terror Watchlist of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

In a New York Post report, Taif Sami Mohammed Al Shakarchi’s alleged links to the Islamic terrorist regime of Iran and Iran-backed militias in Iraq drew headlines. She was also the target of two Republicans in the US House of Representatives accused of being the “key enabler of terrorist funding in Iraq.”

The U.S. Department of State has revoked the visa of an Iraqi national who was presented an award by the Biden Administration for her purported role in fighting corruption and her advocacy for “gender equity.”

Taif Sami Mohammed Al Shakarchi was given the International Woman of Courage Award in 2022 by former Secretary of State (Antony Blinken) and former First Lady Jill Biden.

Following the start of the campaign to dismantle the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) threat to national sovereignty, the United States Department of State announced it has sanctioned two ICC officials namely their president Tomoko Akane of Japan and trial lawyer Abdoulaye Seye of Senegal.

The Trump Administration has been clear: the International Criminal Court (ICC) is a corrupt and fatally politicized supranational court that has maliciously abused its authority and exceeded its mandate.  We will not tolerate its assault on state sovereignty. 

In furtherance of the diplomatic campaign we launched last month to address the ICC’s abuses of power, I am designating two ICC officials – President of the ICC, Tomoko Akane of Japan, and ICC Senior Trial Lawyer, Abdoulaye Seye of Senegal – pursuant to Executive Order 14203, “Imposing Sanctions on the International Criminal Court.”  These individuals have directly engaged in efforts by the ICC to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute officials whose government has not consented to ICC jurisdiction. 

The ICC has repeatedly attempted to assert authority over nationals of the United States and other countries that have not consented to its jurisdiction or ratified the Rome Statute.  This sets a dangerous precedent for all nations.  

Our whole of government campaign to dismantle the threat posed by the ICC to national sovereignty will be sweeping and we expect more countries to join our campaign by ending their funding and participation in this politicized and unaccountable court. The ICC’s ability to target American nationals and those of other non-States Parties must end. The Trump Administration stands ready to take additional measures, if necessary, to systematically dismantle the ICC until it is incapable of threatening American sovereignty.

The winning mindset has Team Humanity losing its heart

Disclaimer: I rarely write about politics. This is one of those occasions.

Sometimes I feel like what seems to be happening in our tortured politics is best symbolized by the revelation of the true meaning of sports in our (American) society, a meaning laid bare by the Great Trans Debate of the last decade, and especially exacerbated during the last few brutal years of the Identity Wars. 

Sports have long been hailed as a way to build character and a collaborative mindset among children—characteristics thought to be crucial to carry into adulthood and for the continuation of a functional democratic society.

As a little kid, you are told that the winning part of sports is secondary. But past a certain age—generally whatever age comes after t-ball—you start to suspect winning might actually be the main thing. You see parents yelling at refs and each other, being disappointed in outcomes, encouraging the losers with, “You’ll do better next time”—but not better at having the fun and doing the character building you thought was the point—better at the winning stuff. 

If teamwork and character were the point, trans kids (emphasis on kids) would not have been thrust into the national spotlight as yet another phony wedge to divide and conquer Americans for political gain. Legislation has been drawn up in states to ban trans kids from sports. Utah, Wyoming and Kansas—where there were a combined 5 transgender athletes—passed laws banning this clearly massive problem. Of the more than 550,000 NCAA athletes—12 are transgender. Divide. Conquer. Winner. Loser. Black. White. This. That. 

Seeing youth as having an unfair competitive advantage in sports while participating for a team opposite their birth genetics seems to me to prioritize winning above all else. And that tracks, because at least as long as I’ve been alive, sports in America have never been about what they claim to be about—because what better way to build character and teamwork than to welcome to the team those who are different from you? 

The true nature of sports in America is about sorting us into binary piles: the winner pile, and the loser pile. That’s why so many of us Americans don’t like soccer—because of the gray area of the tie. We cannot wrap our heads around the idea that everyone goes home a winner, or a loser, or… neither? When it comes to soccer, we’re not sure which and frankly we’re pretty pissed about it. 

Speaking of, I’m not much of a soccer fan, but when FIFA’s World Cup was in America recently, and Norway’s veritable viking Erling Haaland was all the rage, there were stories exploring how such a small country—about the population of Minnesota—could produce so many world-class athletes in both winter and summer sports. 

Norway’s youth sports culture, it turns out, is built on a wild ass philosophy that translates to “the joy of sport.” It’s an approach that prioritizes fun, and not only fun over winning, but just not having winning at all—there’s no scorekeeping under the age of 11. Winning isn’t discussed. 

The point is to get every kid involved and help them feel like there’s a place for them. Everyone plays. Kids really do get participation trophies to encourage them to come back next season. The result: more than 90% of Norwegian kids take part in youth sports; in America it’s closer to 50%. Because when you’re a kid, it really sucks to be sorted into the loser pile (it sucks later in life too, trust me). 

Instead, America has private academies, personal coaches, travel tournaments, nationally televised youth competitions, and more, all emphasizing to our youth the ultimate goal of winning.  

If we are, in fact, using sports as a tool to build a society that is about more than winning, as a tool to lift up the one team that matters most—team humanity—we are screwing it up badly. Because there’s an actual issue that needs our serious attention: It’s hard being a kid. 

More than 1 in 4 U.S. children ages 3 to 17 has a diagnosed mental health issue and nearly half receive no treatment as depression and attempted suicide rates outpace our nation’s mental health workforce capacity. Suicide is a leading (and growing) cause of death for kids aged 10-24, a time when we human beings are all trying to figure out who we are and become comfortable in our own skin, to varying degrees of success. 

Trans kids, meanwhile, are more than four times as likely to report suicide attempts. Translation: These children are more than four times as likely to feel so bad about themselves that they believe they should die by their own hand. They don’t feel this way out of thin air. They’re paying attention, and they feel this way because of adults. This is not character building. 

And so when the Minnesota Lynx played the Indiana Fever in WNBA women’s basketball recently here in Minneapolis, protests and counterprotests surrounded the game after Fever player Sophie Cunningham sparked controversy by implying young girls in locker rooms need to be protected from trans kids—despite that clearly being a total non-issue. Meanwhile, Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve came out wearing a shirt that read “Trans kids belong.” Because she understands that kids are paying attention to a lot of things adults say and do, and that affects how they feel about themselves, how they feel about team humanity. 

Personally, I’ve never cared all that much for the sports industrial complex that undergirds so much of American society, dictates so many of our activities and actions from grade school all the way through to the office water cooler. 

It’s hard for me to understand, because I’ve never felt like I belonged to a team, or that a certain team is “my team.” I might lean toward certain teams, but having any part of my identity tied to a particular team has rarely resonated with me. 

I suspect this is because I grew up in the shadow of an older brother who was a standout athlete, and before I’d even begun I felt like I could not compete. I feared failure and lacked confidence, which eventually transferred to many areas of my life, where the long shadow of competitive sports still lingers like an encroaching shot-blocker in the background. Anyway, that’s what my therapist thinks. But that’s just my experience; for some people, sports work just fine and do what they’re supposedly designed to do. 

But just in case everyone doesn’t experience the world in the same way, couldn’t we at least wait until kids are adults, and then begin to tear them down, like we do our politicians, who — I think we can agree — completely deserve it?

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered:

Section 1.  Purpose.  United States citizenship is among the greatest inheritances the Nation can bestow.  It embodies a sacred bond between the American people and the Nation in which they live, and carries profound rights, privileges, and responsibilities reflective of the enduring allegiance of citizens to the United States and our Constitution.  Citizenship is not a commodity to be acquired through calculated exploitation and evasion of the immigration laws, such as by entering the United States on a nonimmigrant visa for the purpose of giving birth within the Nation’s borders.

Birth tourism operators use deceptive advertisements and inducements to entice foreign nationals to travel to the United States for the purpose of giving birth on American soil.  They promise citizenship; access to public benefits; and short-term stays in specialized facilities, hotels, or rentals, but often fail to deliver on these promises.  These operators coach their clients to misrepresent the purpose and duration of their travel to consular and border officials to obtain visas authorizing entry into the United States.  Failure to appropriately combat these schemes has resulted in thriving industries around the world that profit by enabling the evasion of American immigration laws to obtain citizenship and other immigration benefits for foreign visitors, and the exploitation of the women who travel here for purposes of giving birth.

The immigration laws of the United States establish discrete categories of temporary nonimmigrant visas to allow foreign visitors into the United States for study, exchange, temporary employment, tourism, and other transitory activities that are now exploited by birth tourism operators.  Participants in birth tourism schemes abuse these categories to establish a permanent foothold in the United States by securing the advantage of citizenship for their children and then potentially for themselves.

Birth tourism, defined in section 3 of this order, undermines the integrity of the Nation’s immigration system by enabling foreign nationals to exploit their temporary admission to obtain permanent immigration-related benefits.  Birth tourism also diverts limited consular inspection and enforcement resources away from legitimate visa applicants, erodes public confidence in the faithful enforcement of the immigration laws, and impairs the executive branch’s ability to protect the national security.

The United States has a compelling interest in ensuring that each visa category is used only for the purpose for which it was established.  Foreign nationals seeking temporary admission into the United States must adhere to the purposes for which the Congress has authorized their temporary admission, and cannot be permitted to circumvent the immigration laws in an attempt to vest themselves and their children with lasting benefits that are irreconcilable with their nonimmigrant status.

It is therefore the policy of the United States to promote the integrity of its immigration system, to ensure that nonimmigrant visa classifications are used only for their lawful and intended purposes, and to prevent the exploitation of those classifications by persons engaging in birth tourism.

Sec. 2.  Authorities.  Pursuant to section 301 of title 3, United States Code, the authority granted to the President under section 215(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, 8 U.S.C. 1185(a), is hereby delegated to the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Homeland Security to the extent necessary to implement this order, including the authority to issue or adopt rules, policies, operational guidance, or other guidance to carry out this order.

Sec. 3.  Definition.  For purposes of this order, “birth tourism” is defined as:

(a)  the entry of any foreign national into the United States via a nonimmigrant visa for the purpose of giving birth on American soil; or

(b)  any effort by any foreign national to facilitate the entry of any foreign national into the United States via a nonimmigrant visa for the purpose of giving birth on American soil.

Sec. 4.  Scope and Implementation.  (a)  The Secretary of State and the Secretary of Homeland Security shall take such actions and update any rules, policies, operational guidance, or other guidance as necessary to effectuate the policy set forth in this order.  Such actions may include, within the Secretaries’ respective discretion and authority, appropriate action to prevent the entry into the United States of, or the granting of any visa or other travel authorization to, any alien entering or attempting to enter the United States for the purpose of engaging in birth tourism; revoking the visa or travel authorization and permanently barring entry of any alien who enters or attempts to enter the United States for the purpose of engaging in birth tourism; denial of entry to, or removal of, any alien who previously engaged or plans to engage in birth tourism; or other appropriate action against entities, organizations, or individuals, within or outside of the United States, responsible for facilitating or enabling birth tourism in any manner.

(b)  All other relevant executive departments and agencies shall provide such records and information as are necessary for the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Homeland Security to implement the terms of this order and the rules, policies, operational guidance, or other guidance issued pursuant to it, subject to applicable law.

Sec. 5.  Exemptions.  Notwithstanding the restrictions imposed by this order, the Secretary of State or the Secretary of Homeland Security may exempt a foreign national from actions taken pursuant to this order on humanitarian grounds or when the foreign national’s entry is in the national interest, as determined by the Secretary of State or the Secretary of Homeland Security.

Sec. 6.  General Provisions.  (a)  Nothing in this order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:

(i)   the authority granted by law to an executive department or agency, or the head thereof; or

(ii)  the functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.

(b)  This order shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.

(c)  This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

(d)  If any provision of this order, or the application of any provision to any person or circumstances, is held to be invalid, the remainder of this order and the application of any of its other provisions to any other persons or circumstances shall not be affected thereby.

(e)  The costs for publication of this order shall be borne by the Department of Homeland Security.

Today’s action also targets DadeNegar Startup Studio, an IRGC-affiliated front company supporting Iranian military targeting by soliciting locations of American and Israeli equipment in the Middle East.

The United States calls on the international community, particularly companies and individuals doing business with Mahan Air or any other sanctioned Iranian carrier, to recognize the serious risks raised by continuing such engagement.

The United States will continue to expose and disrupt entities providing the IRGC with the tools and information it uses to threaten American personnel, our partners, and regional stability.

US Treasury Department Prevents Almost $100 Million From Going To Dead People

Federal payments worth almost one hundred million Dollars were prevented by the United States Treasury Department from going to dead individuals, according to a news report by Breitbart News. This is part of the ongoing campaign of the Trump administration to cut waste, fraud and the abuse in federal spending.

The U.S. Treasury Department stopped nearly $100 million in federal payments that have been going out to deceased individuals after establishing a government-wide payment verification process last year.

The department’s Bureau of the Fiscal Service found that the money was set to be sent to “ghosts” after reviewing 885 million payments totaling nearly $2.7 trillion, according to a report by the New York Post.

Since March 2025, the Trump administration’s screening of the funds has reportedly uncovered more than 4,900 payments worth about $99 million that were associated with dead payees.

Payments intended for deceased individuals — often a red flag suggesting fraud — were returned to the originating federal agencies for review before any of the money was paid out, the Treasury Department said.

The department added that it has used the federal government’s Do Not Pay program — which verifies a recipient’s identity, eligibility, and banking information before sending out federal payments — alongside other, newer verification tools.

Last year, after President Donald Trump ordered his administration to cut waste, fraud, and abuse in federal spending, the Treasury Department “significantly expanded” its use of these verification systems, the agency noted.

WTA Institutes Genetic Testing To Ensure Fair Competition In Women’s Category

Another big victory for women in sports and common sense happened as the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) officially updated its policy requiring applicants for competition to take a genetic test that screens for the SRY gene, according to a report by Breitbart News. The newly enacted rule effectively bans men who identify as women from joining women’s competition.

The Women’s Tennis Association has enacted a new rule banning men who identify as women from competition by requiring genetic testing to qualify to play in the women’s sport.

The WTA’s updated policy requires applicants for competition to take a genetic test that screens for the SRY gene, which is found on the male Y chromosome, according to the New York Post.

Potential players who test negative for SRY are immediately qualified to play in the women’s category. A positive result will trigger closer scrutiny before any possibility of becoming eligible, the tennis organization ruled.

Players who refuse testing will be required to sign a document acknowledging that their refusal could result in disciplinary action after any investigation into their application.

“The WTA’s women’s eligibility policy is designed to promote equal athletic opportunities in women’s professional tennis and maintain fair competition for all players participating in WTA tournaments,” the policy states.

“The WTA recognizes that this is a sensitive and complex issue and is committed to treating all players with dignity and implementing the policy in a respectful and thoughtful way,” the organization added after releasing the news.

The sport governing body said the change came after discussion with current members and a review of actions by other international women’s sport organizations.

The new rule seems to be a replacement for previous rules that allowed transgender athletes to compete if their testosterone was below 2.5 nmol/L for at least two years before competing.

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova hailed the WTA’s move, calling it a “step in the right direction.”

In another post on X, Navratilova wrote that she is “very happy that we at the WTA are clear that we are a women’s association and only women, as in females, can compete at the highest level of women’s tennis.”

Philippines Distances Itself From US Campaign Against ICC

Recently the United States launched a campaign against the disruptive International Criminal Court (ICC) and it made clear that nations partnered with America are called upon to reject the ICC. In response to this, the Philippines chose to distance itself from America’s campaign stating that the policy of the US is not within the scope of its government, according to a news report by BusinessWorld.

For insight, the Philippines withdrew from the Rome Statute during the time of then President Rodrigo Duterte. The Philippines made it clear that it has a functioning judiciary and that the there is no need for the ICC to meddle. Strangely, Filipino authorities enforced the ICC arrest warrant which resulted in the arrest of former President Duterte and his transfer to The Hague for trial.

THE Philippines on Tuesday distanced itself from a campaign by the administration of US President Donald J. Trump urging countries to leave the International Criminal Court (ICC), saying Washington’s latest position on the Hague-based tribunal is a matter of American policy and that Manila would continue to follow its own laws.

“The policy of the US is not within the scope of our government,” Palace Press Officer Clarissa A. Castro told reporters in a Viber group chat in Filipino.

Ms. Castro was asked to comment on a statement by US Secretary of State Marco A. Rubio, who said on Monday that “nations that refuse to reject the ICC’s false authority while relying on US assistance are likely to come under scrutiny.”

“This is a policy of the United States, and we respect their position,” Ms. Castro separately told GMA News. “At this point, we have no comment, as we are simply acting in accordance with our own laws.”

The Marcos administration has repeatedly said the Philippines has no plans to rejoin the ICC, while maintaining that its position on the tribunal is based on Philippine policy rather than that of any foreign government.

The Philippines withdrew from the Rome Statute, the treaty that created the ICC, in 2019 under former President Rodrigo R. Duterte after the tribunal opened a preliminary examination into his anti-illegal drug campaign.

Although Manila is no longer a state party, the ICC maintains that it retains jurisdiction over crimes committed while the country was still a member.

Former presidential legal counsel Salvador S. Panelo welcomed the Trump administration’s campaign against the ICC, saying the tribunal should stop what he described as interference in the affairs of sovereign states.

“The Trump administration’s launching of a government-wide campaign against the International Criminal Court, vowing to pressure countries to withdraw from the tribunal and accusing it of threatening US sovereignty, as well as other countries’ sovereignties like the Philippines, Russia and Israel is long in coming,” he said in a statement.

“The illegal and unforgivable incarceration of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, intruding into our country’s sovereignty with the cooperation of the Marcos administration, is a classic example of ICC’s unlawful intrusion to countries that are not members,” he added.

Mr. Duterte, 81, was arrested in March 2025 after Philippine authorities enforced an ICC arrest warrant and transferred him to The Hague, where he remains in the tribunal’s custody while facing allegations of crimes against humanity linked to his anti-drug campaign.

He has denied wrongdoing, while his supporters continue to challenge the court’s jurisdiction following the Philippines’ withdrawal from the Rome Statute.

Trump Administration Trashes Biden-Era LGBTQ Foster Care Rule

Remember a few years ago when the administration of failed US President Joe Biden came up with a foster care rule that sought to require children who identify as LGBTQ be placed with families willing to accept them through gender identity? That outrageous rule was never implemented but the Trump administration formally eliminated it which is good for the United States, according to a news report by Newsmax.

The Trump administration on Tuesday formally eliminated a Biden-era foster care rule that sought to require children who identify as LGBTQ be placed with families willing to affirm their stated gender identity or sexual orientation.

The Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Children and Families (ACF) removed the April 2024 regulation from the Code of Federal Regulations, saying the move will provide clarity and help recruit more foster families nationwide.

The rule never took effect after it was struck down by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, but the administration said removing it entirely closes the door on the policy.

Assistant HHS Secretary Alex Adams told The Daily Wire the decision reflects the administration’s belief that more families should feel welcome to foster children.

“The message that we think it sends is that all families are welcome,” Adams said. “We have too few foster families nationally. We must roll out the red carpet, and we must ensure that there’s homes waiting on kids, not kids waiting on homes.”

The Biden administration’s rule directed federally funded child welfare agencies to ensure that children who “self-identify with an alternative sexual orientation or self-identify as something other than their sex in foster care” were placed with families that would affirm those identities.

The Trump administration said rescinding the regulation supports first lady Melania Trump’s “Fostering the Future” initiative and a related executive order calling for a government-wide effort to strengthen the nation’s foster care system.

Adams said the administration has also launched its “Home for Every Child” campaign to increase the number of foster homes available for children entering the system.

“Nationally, we have a shortage,” Adams said. “We only have 57 homes for every 100 kids coming in, so we can and must do better to ensure that there’s enough homes for kids because when there’s not enough homes, kids end up in short-term rentals, hotels, government office spaces, etc.”

Adams said families with strong religious beliefs and moral convictions make up a large share of those willing to foster children, making it critical that the federal government not discourage them from participating.

Among those honored were 104-year-old Ken Schrubing, who was just 19 years old when he survived the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, and 101-year-old Don Graves, who fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima.

“These are the fighters and the banners of the Greatest Generation,” Trump said. “They are the greatest generation. They saved the world and they made America very, very proud. We’re very proud of you, heroes all.“

Marine Corporal Pat Finn and Private First Class Rudy Meekins, who fought in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir in the Korean War, were also honored, along with astronaut Jack Schmitt, the last American to walk on the moon, and the Artemis II flight crew.

Eleven Gold Star families were also presented with flags during Trump’s speech.

Speaking in front of the first American flags produced, Trump praised the Founding Fathers and the signers of the Declaration of Independence.

“Those 56 patriots put everything at risk, stepped onto the stage of destiny, and seized a victory for the ages,” Trump said.

Trump said the Founding Fathers have allowed America to thrive for 250 years.

“Our cause was just. Our people are brave, our culture is exceptional, and our destiny is written by God,” Trump said.

“And as we can see here tonight, after 250 years, the spirit of 1776 still lives within us all,” Trump added.

Israel Confirms Development Of Space Lasers

The State of Israel is literally climbing great heights as Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed the development of space lasers capable of carrying out attacks above Earth, according to a news report by The Jerusalem Post.

Previously, Israel had the breakthrough of a fully operational Iron Beam laser and was already developing aerial lasers for military use.

Israel is developing space lasers to carry out attacks above the Earth, Defense Minister Israel Katz said Monday.

“One of the central goals that the prime minister and I set is that we are recruiting the best minds,” he said in a briefing with military reporters. “As of today, no country has the ability to mount attacks in space. We must be the leading country in the world with this capability.”

“If we achieve this, it will ensure the advantage of deterrence, of the ability to attack, destroy, and all of the other matters, versus our enemies with large resources,” he added.

Last Thursday, Katz said Israel was committed to becoming the leading player with capabilities to attack from space. But his latest statement was the first time he had specifically mentioned space lasers.

Israel is already a leading country in this field, having developed Iron Beam as a land-based space laser. During a recent visit to Elbit, The Jerusalem Post both witnessed and was informed about a project to enable fighter jets to fire lasers in the future.

Israel leads in developing laser weaponry – During the briefing, Katz seemed to be referring to Iran. Notably, during the war with Iran this year, Israel struck multiple Iranian facilities related to the space war, including those that were developing capabilities to attack satellites in space.

What remains unclear is whether Katz seeks to deter Russia and China from assisting Iran in the space race and other matters.

His statement that no other country has these capabilities was not entirely accurate, however, because both Russia and China have performed attacks on their own satellites and convincingly destroyed their test targets.

Lasers potentially could destroy enemy satellites and incinerate debris caused by attacks in space, according to foreign reports.

There has been speculation that Israel has the capability to destroy enemy satellites using the Arrow 3 missile system, which currently can strike ballistic missiles in space.

Being that Russia and China already have experience dealing with debris, however, many countries are working on other techniques, such as paralyzing, damaging, jamming, dragging, or using lasers against satellites in space.

Trilateral Framework Agreement Aimed At Dismantling Hezbollah Signed by US, Israel And Lebanon

Following the initial talks in Washington, the United States, Israel and Lebanon signed a trilateral framework agreement that outlines a structured process for disarming the Islamic terrorist group Hezbollah, the terrorist infrastructure and enabling the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to withdraw from Lebanon one the terrorist threat is removed, according to a news report by The Jerusalem Post.

The United States, Israel, and Lebanon signed a trilateral framework agreement aimed at combating Iran-backed Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah on Friday, after days of US-mediated talks in Washington.

According to a US State Department statement, the agreement outlines a structured process for disarming Hezbollah, dismantling terrorist infrastructure, and enabling the IDF to withdraw from Lebanon once the threat posed by Hezbollah is removed.

The agreement also established a US-facilitated trilateral Military Coordination Group for Lebanon (MCG4L) to ensure the implementation of the framework.

The US, according to the statement, will also take steps to improve the capabilities of the Lebanese Armed Forces and support Lebanese military efforts against Hezbollah.

In addition, the US pledged to contribute $100 million for humanitarian assistance to be coordinated with the United Nations.

A first step towards peace, prosperity, and mutual coexistence – US Secretary of State Marco Rubio commended Israeli and Lebanese leadership and delegations for their participation in the talks and for signing the agreement.

While Rubio noted that there is still much work ahead, he highlighted the importance of the framework and stated that the US is “honored to have played a part in bringing this together.”

“Today is the first step. This first step sometimes is the hardest one, but it’s an important one and the one we’ve taken together,” Rubio stated, adding that he hopes the agreement will bring about “a future of peace, a future of prosperity, a future of mutual coexistence.”

During the signing of the agreements, Israeli Ambassador to the US Yechiel Leiter praised the trilateral cooperation as a “historical” move towards peace between Israel and Lebanon.

“In my opening remarks four days ago, I expressed concern that this train was running off the tracks, that Iran and its proxies wanted a trainwreck,” Leiter recounted.

He continued to describe that through the work of all involved with the negotiations, “we have put the train back on the tracks, and it’s running in the right direction,” towards “real peace, where both countries will live in security; where Israel’s and Lebanon’s sovereignty will be respected, honored, and protected.”

Framework agreement a ‘major achievement for Israel,’ Netanyahu says – Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to the announcement in a video message on Friday, describing the framework as “a major achievement for the State of Israel.”

Netanyahu affirmed that as of the signing of the agreement, Israel will “remain [in] the security zone in southern Lebanon” and coordinate the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the area as the Lebanese army works to disarm Hezbollah and establish control over territory.
