One of the great things about #golang is easy cross-compilation. However, most #golang #sqlite3 drivers make it considerably less easy by wrapping around the C implementation, requiring #cgo. Now there's a new `database/sql` compatible driver that gets rid of #cgo by wrapping the #sqlite #wasm build instead. Neat!

Congrats to the only real #serverless #database #OrbitDB for reaching v1.0!
"OrbitDB is a serverless, distributed, peer-to-peer database. OrbitDB uses #IPFS as its data storage and #Libp2p #Pubsub to automatically sync databases with peers. It's an eventually consistent database that uses #Merkle-#CRDTs for conflict-free database writes and merges making OrbitDB an excellent choice for #p2p and decentralized apps, blockchain applications and #localfirst #webapps."

jose-elias-alvarez/typescript.nvim - easy #typescript-language-server integration (I've just seen this is now archived, but it still works well.)
fatih/vim-go - #golang language support
mhartington/formatter.nvim - format runner. I use it to run #biome and #gopls to auto-format code.
*GIT*
tpope/vim-fugitive - THE BEST. This is how I mostly interact with #git.
lewis6991/gitsigns.nvim - git decorations for the gutter
rhysd/conflict-marker.vim – makes resolving merge conflicts easier

tpope/vim-commentary - comment macros for various languages
tpope/vim-surround – another one from vim plugin god @tpope. Easily delete, change and add surroundings like quotes, parens etc. in pairs
neovim/nvim-lspconfig - configs for the neovim #lsp client. lsp integration is one of the two reasons I switched to #neovim (the other being #treesitter). Integrates #typescript, #biome, #gopls and #tailwindcss language servers.
sheerun/vim-polyglot - collection of language packs

Regular software assumptions don't apply to #ai:

#Colima just released v0.5.0 with support for #VirtualizationFramework and #virtiofs on #macOS! This should not only improve performance but enable hot/live reloading¹, bringing it on par with #DockerDesktop as a development platform for me. Congrats to the team!

@searls I gave up on #TimeMachine years ago because it's so slow and unreliable when backing up to a network share. Switched to #Vorta for #BorgBackup and never looked back. It's fast, reliable and saves a ton of space thanks to deduplication.

It looks nice and the name is really no exaggeration!

Yesterday #AOL finally shut down #dialup. No more bee-bzz-brr-chrrr.
In 2019, 265,000 people in the US were still using a dial-up connection¹ (at 56 kbps!). Before the shutdown, this number was in the low 1000s².
What were they doing? An average website probably takes 10 minutes to load with a modem. Still eternal-septembering the #usenet? ;)
I'd be interested in numbers from other parts of the world.

I actually already did this in 2018 when #vim 8.1 came out. I was using #MacVim back then, simply because it was rendering text much faster than all the terminal apps available at the time. The new built-in terminal in 8.1 was a huge feature. It allowed me to stop switching between MacVim and the terminal all the time and still enjoy a fast vim experience. Eventually faster terminals like #alacritty, #kitty and #wezterm and also #neovim made me switch back to the terminal again.

#TIL: There are two ways to trigger use of the #HTTP3 / #QUIC #protocol in #webbrowsers:
#Chromium and #Firefox #browsers always start with #HTTP1 / #HTTP2, look for the “alt-svc” header in the response and switch to HTTP3 for subsequent requests if they find it. I knew that much.
But #Safari will instead query #DNS for the "#HTTPS" record and use that as a trigger. So it can work HTTP3-only for the cost of an additional DNS query. Unfortunately, the record type isn't widely supported yet.

There's a #mechanicalkeyboard tagged at USD 3,600-8,090 now. Don't get too excited if that alone makes you want to have one. It's sold out and the waitlist is long.
To quote from the product page:
"Nothing about this makes any sense. It is over the top. Needlessly lavish. Exuberantly irrational. And that is the point. If you're looking for a #keyboard to solve only an earthly practical need, the <c̶e̶n̶s̶o̶r̶e̶d̶> is admittedly maybe not for you."
They should've called it the "#Simulacrum" instead.

Into music? Check out https://roland50.studio. It's #Roland celebrating 50th anniversary with virtual vintage drum machines / synthesizers. #TR808 #TR606 #TB303 #SP404 #SH101
It's also a well-built and performant multimedia website done with #nextjs. Haven't found out more yet, because I immediately get stuck making music for hours on end before I managed to open the dev tools 😃

@Tijn @DigiAntiquarian That was a very entertaining episode! Going back and forth between gameplay and the backstory made it really interesting. I never thought I'd listen to all of the almost 4h, but in the end I did! :-)

The liquidation of the #LivingComputerMuseum might ruin the last chance to save more #CompuServe data for historical research.
The last 9 #SC40 servers (#PDP10 derivatives) were saved from the dumpster 10y ago¹. One was sent to the #LCM and has been in storage since afaik. Of the other 8, all but one have disappeared.
What will happen to the LCM one now? Christie's probably not interested in it? Will it finally be scrapped?

Here are the #vim / #neovim plugins I currently use. My plugin manager is plugged. I know there are more "modern" ones, but plugged works just fine so why change it.
*WORKING WITH FILES*
ctrlpvim/ctrlp.vim – a fuzzy finder for files, buffers, mru, tags etc. This is how I mostly open and switch files/buffers. (It's so much faster than #nerdtree!)
airblade/vim-rooter - changes the cwd to the project dir of the current file. When I'm not using #ctrlp, I'm using…
