  1. Seit mehr als 13 Jahren arbeite ich bei #ISPs. Mehr als 13 Jahre dauerte es, bis die Internetgeschwindigkeit am Arbeitsplatz schneller ist als bei mir zuhause. What a time to be alive! (Hier wurde einfach per WiFi ausm Besprechungsraum gemessen)

  3. Engadget: The FCC wants to make easier for ISPs to hide junk fees . “The Republican-led FCC is moving to modify a transparency rule that could make it much easier for internet service providers (ISPs) to charge hidden fees, according to a report by Ars Technica.”

  4. #FCC to end Biden-era rule that forces ISPs to list all their #fees

The Federal Communications Commission will vote to eliminate a rule that requires Internet service providers to list all of their so-called "passthrough" fees on an easily accessible #broadband price label. The FCC vote could also make the price labels themselves a bit harder for #consumers to find.

#ISPs routinely advertise prices much lower than those actually charged to consumers on their monthly bills. One method of raising monthly bill prices above advertised rates is to tack on fees that, ISPs claim, are used to offset charges imposed by local governments.

  5. European #ISPs are crying foul because they accidentally blocked the entire #internet while chasing pirates 🏴‍☠️. Now they want the #EU to babysit rightsholders and clean up the digital mess like it's internet daycare 🤷‍♂️. Maybe they should try turning it off and on again? 🙄

  6. Spain’s Net blocks have a flimsy legal basis, and lack both oversight and accountability

A few weeks ago, Walled Culture wrote about Hadopi, France’s infamous copyright enforcement mechanism. The so-called “graduated response” – aka “three strikes and you are out” – has been around for over 15 years now, has cost French taxpayers a fortune, and has never achieved any of its aims. As the Walled Culture post suggested, the latest court ruling might finally put the […]

  7. 🚀 Ah, the noble quest to secure the Internet's mailman! 🌍 #BGP is still as safe as letting toddlers handle your bank transactions. But fear not, because #ISPs will definitely implement #RPKI and save the day...right after they solve world peace and cure aging. 😂

  8. @Slash909uk @phlash Oh! I had forgotten I had these online. These are from when we built Genie Internet for Cellnet - Originally on the Telex floor (where Wireplay was), and then we had to move it up to the 5th or 6th onto my office floor, where the corporate networks hung out. This was the install record, sadly taken on a 1999 digital camera, sorry! I had a skim, there's nothing in there that would be considered classified these days.

The Celnet Genie service, which we designed as an "ISP in a box", was pretty amazing, really, especially for an essentially free ISP.

Also, it's one of those odd jobs where you end up as both lead applications architect, systems manager, server builder, removal dude, and underfloor cable rat and crimper in the same project. I feel jobs like that in big corporations tend not to exist any more.

  9. Haven't posted much recently because fairly busy with end of #AdultESOL term (papers to grade!), the new / next #CyberSecurity class (network security, so deals with actual #tech, not bureaucracy).

Also, we switched #ISPs when we had a new option that was cheaper and about 200x faster. I think we are finally close to speeds we had in #Japan 20 years ago.

ISP #Router interface not great; they want you to use a phone app. Both have fewer features and worse gui than the 10yo one we replaced.

  10. #Trump admin demands states exempt #ISPs from net neutrality and price laws

The Trump administration is refusing to give broadband-deployment grants to states that enforce net neutrality rules or price regulations, a #Commerce Department official said.

  12. ISPs created so many #fees that #FCC will kill requirement to list them all

Federal Communications Commission Chairman #BrendanCarr says #internet service providers shouldn't have to list every #fee they charge. Responding to a request from #cable and #telecom #lobby groups, he is proposing to eliminate a rule that requires #ISPs to #itemize various fees in #broadband price labels that must be made available to consumers.

  13. The one uniting thing across the world is that #ISPs suck. My #fiber connection is broken since the 14th. I called and got an appointment with a technician for yesterday, the 20th.

The tech didn't come, so I called again today. Apparently the appointment is still open, but since it's a contractor, they can't tell me anything else. So now I am supposed to be at home for an indefinite amount of time (days?), waiting for a call to recieve the technician within 30minutes.
