Yet another Rust VPN (TUN-QUIC-TUN)

На поделке из предыдущей статьи вдохновение не закончилось, решил написать VPN. Был опыт разработки shadowsocks сервера , что не понравилось: под каждое TCP соединение, открываемое каким-нибудь браузеров, VPN клиент открывает отдельное TCP cоединение к серверу, а тот в свою очередь столько же до конечной точки + пришлось руками шифровать/дешифровать payload. Захотелось сделать что-то более простое + самим написать и клиент.

WireGuard довольно быстро стал популярным VPN-протоколом: простой, быстрый, с аккуратной архитектурой и без тяжёлого наследия, он выгодно выделялся на фоне монстров вроде IPsec и OpenVPN. Но, как это часто бывает, сильная сторона со временем стала и слабым местом. Протокол оказался не только удобным и предсказуемым, но и легко узнаваемым, а значит и сравнительно простым для блокировки. Как только WireGuard начали пытаться блокировать, появились и первые попытки его спрятать. Сначала это были довольно простые приёмы, например, добавить перед хендшейком несколько мусорных UDP-пакетов, чтобы сбить DPI в начале сессии. Потом появилась AmneziaWG, которая пошла дальше и стала менять уже сам внешний вид WireGuard-пакетов: заголовки, размеры, дополнительные junk-данные внутри хендшейка. В AmneziaWG 2.0 пространства для манёвра стало ещё больше: к уже существовавшим S1–S2 добавились S3–S4, и управляемые вставки стало возможно применять не только к хендшейку, но и к другим типам сообщений, включая основной поток данных. Параллельно развивалась и идея имитационных пакетов: перед хендшейком можно было отправлять не просто случайный мусор, а пакеты, похожие на трафик другого протокола, чтобы сбить первичную классификацию. В этой статье речь пойдёт о следующем шаге в развитии этой идеи. Если раньше имитационные пакеты работали в основном как короткая дымовая завеса перед хендшейком, то теперь имитация переносится в сам поток: транспортные пакеты AmneziaWG на проводе начинают выглядеть как QUIC, DNS, STUN или SIP.

В прошлой статье я рассказывал, как мы встроили VLESS + Reality прямо в наше iOS-приложение через sing-box, чтобы обход блокировок был не задачей пользователя, а деталью реализации. Если коротко: TLS-рукопожатие проксируется на посторонний крупный сайт, активный пробинг упирается в этот сайт, IP относимся как к расходнику, конфиг доставляется отдельно от сборки. Подход работает, и для подавляющего большинства соединений из России работает прямо сейчас. Кроме одного класса сетей, в которых не работал. Внутри этого класса оказались, в том числе, корпоративные подсети, гостевой Wi-Fi в некоторых аэропортах и часть регионального покрытия одного из операторов. Картина в логах одна и та же. Туннель поднимается, TCP-соединение на relay открывается, TLS-рукопожатие начинается, и через секунду sing-box на сервере пишет в журнал: REALITY: processed invalid connection . Сразу обрыв, нет ретраев которые что-то меняют. Эта статья про то, что мы увидели в этих сетях, почему Reality в одиночку их не пробивает, и что мы поставили рядом, чтобы пробивал. RFC 9959: Convergence of Congestion Control from Retained State

Traditionnellement, les protocoles de transport comme #QUIC ou TCP partaient de zéro à chaque connexion. On se connecte, on démarre prudemment, puis on augmente le débit petit à petit. Mais c'est dommage de ne pas tenir compte des connexions précédentes. Ne pourrait-on pas se souvenir des mesures précédentes pour aller plus vite la prochaine fois ? C'est justement ce que propose ce #RFC.
