I just noticed that the Intel i960 (1988) bitfield instructions support field widths from 0 bits (!) to the full word size of 32 bits. This reminds me of the DEC PDP-10 architecture (1967) byte instructions, which also operated on bit fields called "bytes", of widths ranging from 0 bits to the full word width of 36 bits.

TOPS-10 had that kind of paging built into the TTY driver. Configurable on/off and line count using the SET TTY command. I always missed that on Unix.

Well @retrobytes goes very nerdy¹ about the DEC PDP-10 and builds a replica in the form of a PiDP-10 in an epic soldering montage.
He also waxes lyrical about the TOPS-10 OS for the PDP-10 and it's ancestry to CP/M, MS-DOS and via another route to Microsoft BASIC and a lot lot more more!

I've at times joked about needing negative propagation delay logic devices, buffers, etc. to meet timing requirements, but I just spotted a -10ns delay line in a diagram in the DEC KI10 Processor Maintenance Manual, figure 5-1.
For most applications, negative delay elements are prohibitively expensive.

Just checked: downtown Tokyo is IPv6 enabled.
(At my day job in 1980, I had to patch the TENEX internet code (PDP-10 assembler) to handle the longer headers when the IP version changed. It'd be harder to do that oneself now, I'd think.)
We've had FTTH for over 10 years now, and last year a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed phone comapny salesperson came by with a hard sell for upgrading to 10 Gbps from the glacial 1 Gbps I had been putting up with for the last 10 years.
