Years ago, I built #Asimov as a way to keep things like node_modules/ out of my #TimeMachine backups.

However, life got in the way and despite the project finding a strong userbase (1.8k stars on GitHub), I didn't have the time or motivation to keep things going.

Fortunately, Django volunteered to take over and now Asimov is better than ever.

I guess the moral here is that it's okay to ask for help or to say "I've done my part, time for someone else to take the reins"

I've been rewatching "retro" sci-fi movies from the 90s and early 00s.

Last night, I watched The Time Machine (2002) and the obviously carefully engineered details on the device, made me wonder about indie (web)app development...

Clearly none of these knobs and toggles required this level of polish ... but hey, the guy even threw in a little stair you can retract!

It's also funny that he always gets dressed before a journey. It's a cool move.

Koniec pewnej epoki

Time Capsule zadebiutował jeszcze w 2008 roku i przez lata był dla użytkowników ekosystemu Apple najprostszym sposobem na bezobsługowe, bezprzewodowe kopie Time Machine w domowej sieci. Jak informuje serwis AppleInsider, zapowiedzi porzucenia standardu AFP, na którym opierała się komunikacja z routerami, pojawiały się już we wcześniejszych wersjach systemu (m.in. w macOS 15 Sequoia oraz macOS 26). Drugie życie dzięki projektowi z GitHuba

Rozwiązaniem problemu niezgodności protokołów zajęli się niezależni deweloperzy. W serwisie GitHub prężnie rozwijany jest projekt o nazwie TimeCapsuleSMB. Jego celem jest zaktualizowanie przestarzałej warstwy sieciowej routera bez ingerencji w oryginalne oprogramowanie układowe (firmware) dostarczone przez Apple.

Trying to restore from a #macOS #TimeMachine backup for my stolen work laptop that had 1TB disk to another laptop with 1TB disk. Buuuut the backup in Migration Assistant shows as 1.3TB.

I think this is due to use of Apple's new "container" system that doesn't play well with TM backups. Unfortunately TM is always an afterthought and MA is always a slow, buggy mess even in the best circumstances.

I hope I can get this thing restored before the long holiday weekend ends.
