#TimeMachine on #macOS 26.5 still failed trying to back up to my Samba server.

The fix was to remove

fruit:time machine max size=…

from the share's smb configuration. As an alternative one can use tmutil to enforce a quota:

tmutil destinationinfo
sudo tmutil setquota [destination uuid] [quota-in-gb]

Since #Gemini totally borked the code I thought I'd restore from backup to get most of the code working again and to use #ChatGPT to see if it could solve the problem that Gemini destroyed the code trying to solve.

I had #Apple's #TimeMachine show me the backups but the only ones it claimed to have for that file were minutes ago and 3 days ago, which was a lie. I had to drill into the TM backup disk myself to retrieve the file. Apple software quality is total 💩.

Seit Jahren läuft mein #TimeMachine-Back-up zuverlässig auf ein #Synology-#NAS. Das ist aber ganz schön in die Jahre gekommen und ich ersetze es gerade durch eins von #Ugreen.

Mit dem neuen NAS funktioniert alles und alles lässt sich super einfach einrichten. Nur am bei Time Machine scheitere ich.

Hat hier jemand das schon hinbekommen? Was genau das Problem ist, habe ich hier in einem Ugreen-Forum en detail aufgeschrieben, bislang ohne eine Antwort bekommen zu haben.

I've been looking to buy a bass amp, that is made in the UK, and the smallest I can find is a 100 watt amp.

I mean MADE, NOT designed and engineered in the UK.

It isn't the cost, it is just I only play indoors, along to music, and I live in a little flat.

I never understand what TimeMachine is up to. Edit one file next I find TM trying to make a backup of 20GB 🤔 So slow. Part of me wants to know what it's doing, the other is too scared to find out🫣 .

So you know how the two modern empires got single digit country codes? +1 for the USA (which it now shares with its neighbours) and +7 for the USSR? I wonder, if international direct dialling had been invented a few decades earlier would the British Empire have +4, instead of +44 for the UK and random other numbers for the rest? I think I'm going to get in my #TimeMachine and make it so. It would make fixing a bug in Number::Phone, my #perl #telecoms code, much easier.

I just set up a fresh Time Machine backup volume for the MacBook Neo on an external USB-C drive. I guess, it won't break any records in 2026, but I'm old enough to appreciate write speeds of over 900MB/s. 😉
