@simon So I actually did fix my fried 1982 TR-606 drum machine, brought it to SynthsWhen back in Sept. Great place, super nice folks, took until January to fix it. Works great now even tho there’s more to fix but I had to stop at about $600 in repairs, I couldn’t justify anymore $$ since I’ve seen them on Reverb for that much. I got a D-Sync box so I can control tempo now thru midi which is HUGE haha. It’s actually inspired a new project, so that’s pretty great too. #TR606 #DrumMachine

Repairing all LED buttons, dials and faders of a legendary Jomox XBase 09 and outfitting the even more legendary TR-606 with single instrument outputs will be costly.
But just digging them out of my storage after decades and playing with them is sooo much fun.
You tend to forget, how much of a pleasure music making was, and how great instruments sounded, when software and computer screens only played a minor role.
Even today the sound of a DAW is just a generic mushy hyperregulated thing, compared to the character, originality, roughness and pressure of these two drum machines. They even sync using DIN sync. Brutal.
This refurbishment will be realized by the great Kai Roeske of X-tended Berlin. I can't wait to get those machines back in mint working conditions in 3 weeks.
