My student, Zach, got the famous Whetstone floating-point benchmark running in FORTRAN IV on our PDP-12 (results had never been recorded for a '12 without an FPP). He also implemented the Dhrystone integer benchmark in PDP-8 assembly, which (as far as we know) has never been done before. After a zillion emails with “hey check out this new feature!” I went back to have another look at #RemNote. Does anyone who uses it have any thoughts for better or worse on how it stacks up to other note taking apps? It’s one of those where you can use / to create a new block type within a note, like Logseq. I never got into that but then I never specifically tried to.

Continuing my unhealthy food series, had some corn dogs from a new place last night with sort of a Korean flavor. They were indeed as delicious as the photos imply. Garlicky kimchi-ish sauce with hot Cheeto powder. Apparently corn dogs are kind of a thing in Korea? I never knew.

#Chips R Us in Midland, Western Australia. Every time someone asks me what I miss from Australia, one of the things I tell them is “real, soggy, fat, greasy-ass chips wrapped in white paper”.
This is 1000% what I mean. Hand cut White Star #potatoes fried in #beeftallow. Salivating just looking at this. Nowhere in the US have I been able to find similar chips.

I fully intend to continue to use #Brave as my primary browser. Because when it boils down to it, in a technology sense, the fact that someone invented javascript plays into things far more significantly than whether or not they personally don’t believe that honeymoons should involve swordfights. These bullshit witch-hunts need to stop. Just because someone has a different set of morals and values doesn’t mean their software is any less secure or performant or that it is somehow designed to catastrophically compromise your online security if it magically detects that you disagree with them.

That’s it. Packed up the #AppleTV for the last time. What finally did it for me was the #Netflix app not correctly detecting streaming bandwidth and increasing resolution. And it’s done this before. Play a show, it pixelates like I’m streaming over a 300bps modem, which is sometimes normal with apps until they detect that you in fact have an #AX5400 with #wifi6 and #beamforming and the quality increases. NF app quality didn’t increase. Quit out of the app (I HATE that you can only endtask on the ATV with its own remote and ONLY with swiping turned on, which I don’t have by default because it causes misfires when clicking), start NF app again, same shit stream quality. Back to #FireStick, quality perfect.
Jesus Apple. How do you get things so right (#iPhone, #iPad) and yet so miserably wrong (AppleTV, #AppleWatch and #MacOS - yeah y’all heard me!) almost dead-on 50% of the time either way?
Just as fascinating: that people don’t even realize how much *better* the alternatives are. 😵💫🤷🏻♂️

Highly exciting. I heard from #Superlist - if you don't know what that is, go here https://www.superlist.com/ - to confirm that I'll be included in the upcoming batches of invites to try the tech. Have been waiting for months with no invite and it turns out that it's because I use Windows and they only have it out for Mac, iOS and Android. Well, I have all of those. Web version is next I think, followed paradoxically by the best OS of all, Windows. Whatever.
Can't wait to use it. These people created #Wunderlist back in the day and I and my wife used the absolute hell out of that for many diff things.

Formerly abandoned traditional #Scottish village.
For centuries, #Highlanders and their livestock lived in these one-room abodes. The houses, which featured packed earth floors, drystone walls, and thatched roofs, offered refuge from the wild North Atlantic weather.
In 1989, Urras nan Gearrannan, the local trust, set to work restoring and preserving these historic buildings. Now, the renovated #blackhouses are available as holiday accommodation.

A newly rebuilt drystone walled section of road; Portobello Rd, Dunedin .At a guess 10 km, but a local may correct me. Well done to the stonemasons who dedicated their craft to lay stone ( instead of modern concrete shoring technique that has little character in comparison)
Sections of this harbour drive were widened as well for a cycle/ walkway. Can do a full circle by crossing the harbour on a small ferry and riding the trail to the city and back.

PowerPC board Mirari: Benchmarks under MorphOS 3.20
Various benchmarks for the announced PowerPC board Mirari running MorphOS 3.20 have been published by Martina Hřebcová at the title link. In the Dhrystone test, for example, it is beaten by a slightly higher-clocked Mac mini, but in terms of memory speed, it is sometimes ahead of and sometimes behind a significantly higher-clocked iMac G5 in second place.

To use it, just install the #Stylebot (https://stylebot.dev/) extension for Chrome or FF and then paste the code from my pastebin into the Code section of Stylebot when viewing your Mastodon interface. Currently using the Archivo font, but you can change that on line #2 to whatever you want.
