🏡 Last summer, I spent a weekend in the countryside working on my first dry stone wall.

The satisfaction of stacking each stone, knowing it’ll stand strong without mortar, was immense!

I yearn to work somewhere with a quarry. Rebuilding a 200 year old sea wall using the same shore stone that made it is great discipline but I dream of stones with flat tops and straight sides, rather than wonky lines and so much time spent on pinning each rock into place.

Today in Camperdown we wandered past the house with a dry stone wall that has pipes sticking out of it. It is on a corner. We turned the corner and discovered that this part of the wall has reddish-brown solid lasts from shoe making in it. Now that wall is built by someone with great wall building skills and a delightful eccentric, creative streak.

A newly rebuilt drystone walled section of road; Portobello Rd, Dunedin .At a guess 10 km, but a local may correct me. Well done to the stonemasons who dedicated their craft to lay stone ( instead of modern concrete shoring technique that has little character in comparison)
Sections of this harbour drive were widened as well for a cycle/ walkway. Can do a full circle by crossing the harbour on a small ferry and riding the trail to the city and back.

An old print today. This is Tin Mine from 2018, a three colour screenprint.

It's inspired by Cornwall (where are all the Cornish people on Mastodon?) and is quite abstract.

It is not of a specific place but is from my imagination. In this print I really started to combine stylised elements with textures.
