  6. Day 4: Rimini - San Marino - Cattolica

    ↔️ 64.6 km ↗️ 740m

First quite tough leg. I wanted to check San Marino off the list of microstates to visit. And to be fair, the view was great from up there.
Not much to say about Cattolica. Very touristy beach town like there are many around here.

  7. European microstate checklist:
    ✅ Andorra (by bike)
✅ Liechtenstein (by bus and foot)
    Malta
    Monaco
    ✅ San Marino (by bike)
    ✅ Vatican City (by foot)

Seeing that Malta is an island, I’ll probably won’t make it there anytime soon (by bike or otherwise) as I don’t fly. Should visit Monaco at some point, though maybe not by bike…

  8. Day 3: Ravenna - Rimini

    ↔️ 60.6 km ↗️ 0m

After two days with rain, ideal weather today: Sunny but not too hot.

Crossed the Pineta di Classe nature reserve and followed the beaches south to Rimini. I'm staying in town but also went for a walk to the beach in Rimini and I can see why people like it. Very lively, music, food, the beach and a bit of glamour. Not exactly my cup of tea though.

  16. One thing I like in Italy is how many older people you see on bicycles (despite the sometimes very rough infrastructure). And usually it isn’t e-bikes but regular old acoustic ones! #biketouring #bikepacking #nerdiontour

I’ll take my sponsorship money now, big german brand specialised in such products. :-P #biketouring #bikepacking #nerdiontour

  28. Day 2: Imola - Ravenna

    ↔️ 53.9 km ↗️ 15m

Today I reached the Adriatic coast. Luckily it only started raining after I arrived in Ravenna. It made for a wet exploration of the city, but some nice moody pictures and even a rainbow when it started clearing up!

  33. Here's a question to those with detailed knowledge about traffic rules in Italy: As a bicyclist am I allowed to cycle here?

In Switzerland, the red circle is a "general driving prohibition". It means you cannot drive, on any vehicle. The only thing allowed here is walking (ignoring the qualifiers below the sign).

My theory is that generally, this is different in Italy, as in, this sign does not apply to cyclists. Or at least it isn't enforced at all?
