  1. I feel like I'm looking for a very old-school thing, and due to the fact that it probably only existed before the internet I can't find it. Does a bicycle dynamo-hub–powered FM radio exist? I can find emergency radios with their own dynamo inside, but nothing compatible with a bike dynamo.

Yes, I know, I am part of the CBC cult and need to get out, but...

  2. Right now I take some chill time in CZ. Will finish with Germany tomorrow, I don't have the energy for that now.

Czech Republic is bit weird, after the flat riding, in two days I rode like 60km but climbed as much as in 2 weeks in the past month. With the heat and bit harder routes I decided to check out museums and stuff I wanted to wisit, I just don't get near Prague that often. Maybe #Kcd2 players will recognise one of these places ;-)

  3. Denmark - Helsingør to Gedser (no 9 cycling route)

Not gonna lie I didn't pick the best route to have nice first impression of Denmark. From Helsingør the cycling route is pretty much in the villages, towns and cities for long stretches and you get out of this after you cross Copenhagen. It isn't dangerous cycling path next to quite frequented road, you don't have to fight for space with cars, but nothing pleasant to ride. Also under the bike paths they run utilities so some of them are like asphalt puzzle.

That said if you just don't go to the more populated areas the biking there is quite nice. Lot of the time the route takes you on the rarely used rural roads, through countryside.

Camping is similar to the Sweden, but you can get app with most of the shelters and camp spots with descriptions and photos on a map (works partially offline, just without photos and comments). Some shelters are paid (~70 DKK/night) but you get even shower and other nice to have stuff (electricity, laundry...)

Except the first ~100km there I would highly suggest this destination, just be prepared for the wind - it is really windy only question is the direction, Danes I met told me that they plan day trips by the direction of the wind and taking the train so they don't ride in headwinds.

  4. Sweden - Ystad - Simrishamn - Kristianstad - Hörby - Lund - Helsingborg

I stringed together few local and longer distance routes, didn't followed the main most cycled ones.

If you want try #bikepacking or #biketouring this is perfect choice for the first trip! Good access from central Europe (train to Baltic coast and ferry to Sweden) it is less touristy, can camp pretty much anywhere (check the RULES!) for free and you can take the shelters!

The roads are nice, separated or rarely used, they have good signage no GPS track necessary. I really enjoyed riding there. There isn't that much people traveling on bikes or hiking long distance but you will probably meet some people at the shelters or on nice camp spots - they are bit harder to find but OsmAnd had them so it wasn't so much issue for me.

Some people I met said that there are some routes that are heavily used and its not so much fun to ride them, when I used the inland 103 route I had it pretty much for myself. So try to explore a bit and find what suits you.

  5. Poland EV 10, 13 from Gdansk to Swinouscie

It is developed route, rarely missing signage, mostly asphalt or hard packed gravel, on one part hard packed sand road (sand on top hard surface below, you don't sink in it).

Heavily used, the traffic of cyclist is bit insane, sometimes on narrow sections you have to really slow down to make a way to someone with trailer or with panniers. The coast is popular summer destination, even in smaller villages and towns there is so much people that you will have to push the bike through. You can search for alternatives bit inland.

Tldr: no "panzerstraße" but too much people to my liking. Wouldn't exactly suggest this route.

  6. Poland- EV9 to Gdansk

Really nice and varied route you never know on which surface you will ride on! GPS track is a must, some parts are signed but mostly it's missing. Pretty much nobody rides this so it's not overcrowded. Only issue I have with it is the broken track from Eurovelo web planner, sometimes it thinks that you can swim.

Check the route also for missing bridges, after the floods in 2024 they aren't all replaced.

All in all I would really suggest you to ride the EV 9 CZ to PL.

  7. Now some segments:
    Czech part of EV9

Don't expect it to be signed like EV9, I think it is long distance Czech route 4 and 5. Otherwise it is nice sometimes bit off road but mostly asphalt and separated roads. Around Olomouc there are new routes so you don't have to ride on roads but the signage pointing you there is missin.

  8. Some general suggestions:

    1) Don't go on trip that long without knowing what you are doing. I would suggest maximum of 3 weeks because you won't ride such a distance that the wear and tear starts showing on the bike parts. You probably won't even need to change a chain.

    2) Plan more rest days. I just didn't feel like there was a need for them that much and ended up riding nearly 3 weeks in row and nearly burned out. No day ferry travel isn't adequate rest day.

    3) Some less known and riden routes are usually nicer and better even if it means more navigation hurdles (it isn't signed) or the roads are bit worse.

  9. For this year it is probably enough of #biketouring or #bikepacking abroad for me so I can do some summary on my trip because its still fresh.

    First some stats:
Distance: ~2 548km (bit guesstimate from maps, don't have all routes logged)
    Days: 38 + 4 rest days
Countries visited: 4 (don't count CZ)
Average day distance: 67km (without rest days)
    Ferry: 4
    Train: 1
    Chains: 2 changes
    Tires: 1 change
    Breakage: 1x (the stupid cranks)

  10. I decided to write the review of bike spaces on the new #comfortjet #train on different post.

It is nice that there are ~12 spots for bikes - 7 on hooks and ~5 leaning on rail (it may be possible to put there more bikes I don't know the specification).

Just he prepared that if you have deep wheels or run wider tires it may be really hard to get them on the hook. With my 45mm tires it is snug fit. Also another gripe with them is the seating, you just can't use it when the bike is up there and the derailleur leans (and scratches) on the seat.

All in all quite decent offer, the ticket for the bike on the route #Prague - #Berlin goes for 18€ so not that bad.

  11. I have to bring some bribe for my brother for letting me stay at his place in Prague.

Because I didn't book train in advance I will arrive pretty much at midnight. Hope this will be at least some compensation for the inconvenience.

  12. After the longest ride today I took 2 of these portions of "ready to heat" meals from Aldi and I think they are lying about the calories. With the glass of juice it is ~1000kcal and I know that I did long day and tried to keep up with the calorie intake and I am still bit hungry.

So do you count calories on tour and what's your fueling strategy?

  13. You know that when you get puncture after puncture its time to change the tire. Unfortunately I only found 40mm one, going from 45mm I feel like a roadie ;-)

Sometimes I got some roadside "help" with the fix from "bystanders"...

Also the repair stations are nice, if they have tools or aren't damaged in other ways. Poland had bunch of them but missing so much stuff or broken down that they were unusable.

  14. Alright, it's gonna happen. Ben and I are heading to the mountains again. We'll start in Geneva and then head south, collecting cols. No camping, hopefully good weather in early September. But we're flexible and will adjust our route depending on conditions (of the weather and our legs). The screenshot shows the most ambitious version, with classic Tour de France climbs like the Alpe d'Huez and the Col des Aravis. But we also have slightly less nutty routes planned.

  15. Mouth and belly of the beast ;-)

Two ferries I took one to get to #Denmark and other I'm in right now leaving to #Germany

Have to say that the last one had the best organisation in case of loading bikes.
