  1. Darkest Dungeon has just released a new major DLC.

Even though they haven't released any DLC for it since 2020, and they've subsequently released Darkest Dungeon II (2023).

The new DLC ports two character classes from DD2 back to DD1, as well as some new mechanics and some new hamlets.

Guess I'm starting a new adventure..

  2. Double Your PlayStation 5 Storage With This 1TB PCIe M.2 SSD for Just $136.39 Shipped

Newegg is offering the best price I've seen this year for a high-speed PS5-compatible SSD. Newegg via its official AliExpress storefront is offering a KingSpec XG7000 1TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe Solid State Drive for an impressively low price of $136.39 with free shipping (you'll need to be signed in to see this price). No coupon is needed to get this price, you simply click on the link to activate the discount. This same drive sells for $169 on Amazon.

    1TB PS5 SSD for $136.39

Installing an SSD in your PlayStation 5 console is super easy and won't void your warranty. It's also a near essential upgrade. With games taking up as much as 100GB of space apiece, it's very easy to max out the PS5's stock 1TB storage, and it's not unheard of to max out an additional 2TB of space.

The KingSpec XG7000 is very fast for a "budget" M.2 SSD. This is a PCI-E 4x4 drive with transfer speeds of up to 7,400MB/s read and 6,600MB/s write, which passes Sony's recommended minimum requirement of 5,5000MB/s. Despite the fact that this is a budget SSD, the XG7000 is equipped with TCL 3D NAND flash memory. Most cheap SSDs use QLC memory, which has slower sustained speeds and a shorter lifespan. To save costs, the XG7000 doesn't have onboard DRAM, and instead uses HMB, or onboard system memory for buffering. For PS5 gamers, there's no difference.

Performance and feature-wise, the KingSpec XG7000 is similar to other popular SSDs like the Samsung Evo Plus and the WD Black SN7100, however Crucial's 4TB model is the least expensive of the three options, especially with the heatsink pre-attached.

The best PS5 SSDs you can buy in 2025

Over the past few console generations with built-in storage, gamers were typically stuck with however much storage that came with the console. With the PS5, Sony made a surprising move by including an internal M.2 PCIe slot to install an off-the-shelf SSD to supplement the internal storage. Given that this is the same company that paired the PS Vita and PSP with ludicrously expensive memory cards, this was a welcoming change of pace, especially given the paltry 825GB of storage you have to work with. Now, you can install high-end PC SSDs like the Corsair MP600 Pro LPX, our number one pick, to load even more games nearly as fast as the extra-special drive that's built into the console itself.

  3. Malware Disguised as Leaked GTA 6 Copies Are Popping Up on Piracy Sites

No, despite claims online, there is not a downloadable and playable build of GTA 6 floating around on piracy sites.

Earlier this week, a leaker known as CyberLeek began posting alleged gameplay footage from Grand Theft Auto 6. Ever since these leaks began appearing, there's been no shortage of fake news and misleading claims spreading online. Various users have impersonated the leaker on social media to capitalize on the situation, fake AI videos claiming to be new leaks have also circulated, and now, people are suggesting that there's an actual playable version of the game floating around the internet.

Various pirating and torrenting sites have been populated with download links to an alleged GTA 6 build. Don't download these. They are malware and will compromise your computer in various ways. According to experts from NordVPN, these downloads have been floating around all year, but have experienced a resurgence with the recent leaks.

“Every time GTA 6 makes headlines, leaked footage spreads through re-uploads, Discord links, and unofficial mirrors, which is exactly the environment where fake 'leak' downloads and credential-harvesting pages thrive," said Marijus Briedis, CTO at NordVPN. "Fans looking for leaks or removed clips might land on unfamiliar sites, and in that moment they trust what they find. That's the window attackers exploit.”

While some may find the idea of a GTA 6 build leaking online outrageous in of itself, there is precedent for such a thing. In late 2023, Insomniac Games was hacked and a playable version of Marvel's Wolverine found its way online. Three years later, and that game is finally about to be officially released to the public. There's no indication that a build of GTA 6 will find its way online, but the situation is ceratinly unique and disruptive to Rockstar.

As for the newly leaked footage itself, some thought it was obtained by hacking Rockstar, similar to the big leak for the game that happened in 2022. As it turns out, there may be more here than meets the eye, as the hacker spelled out their own name with bullets in-game in one of the leaked videos. This seems to suggest that the leaker is actually in possession of a working build of the game, but we don't know much else on the matter. Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have yet to comment on the situation, so all we can really do is speculate right now.

  4. Riot to End Active Development for 2XKO in December 2026, Online Play to Remain Unaffected

In one of the more heartbreaking developments in the games industry this year, Riot’s League of Legends fighting game, 2XKO, will officially end active development in December.

The writing has been on the wall for some time now, but the official news still hit the fighting game community like a freight train. The 2XKO team explained the situation in a blog post on August 20, admitting that there simply aren’t enough active players to justify continued support.

“Over the last few months, we’ve been monitoring 2XKO’s trajectory closely, and what we’ve seen is painting a clear, consistent picture: while a lot of you jumped in to try the game and there's an incredible community that plays every day, we haven’t seen enough players stick with the game to get to a path toward sustainability,” their post reads.

With a heavy heart, the @Play2XKO team shares an update about the future.
    - Active development will end in December.
    - The final content patch goes live in October.
    - Servers stay online.
    - In-game purchases made before August 20 will be refunded.https://t.co/3UQF7kh5S4 pic.twitter.com/FKquzTd6xc

    — Riot Games (@riotgames) August 20, 2026

As of right now, 2XKO will remain online beyond 2026, and offline play will not be affected. The team will continue to introduce new content throughout the rest of the year, including feature improvements, two new champions in Lux and Samira, and a final bug fix patch in December.

It’s unclear if this will remain true in the future, though, as the wording of Riot’s blog post made it seem as though the status of active online play is subject to change. “We’ll give advanced notice if any of that changes,” it reads.

The team went on to give a preview of what’s coming next for the game: In the coming months, Riot will disable KO Points purchases, refund all purchases made prior to August 20, add a purchasable bundle of nearly all 2XKO cosmetic content for $39.99, and make most items available for Credits. Riot will also unlock most gameplay content, including all champions.

It’s also removing systems like Battle Passes, KO Points, Champion Tokens, seasons, and events, as well as disabling ranked lobbies to better streamline the casual lobby experience. “Ranked lobbies will be disabled to ensure that we can matchmake within a single pool of players per server,” the post explains. “Casual lobbies will still be matchmade by skill, so you should …

  7. 'I Bet Many of You Would Not Like It' — Halo Co-Creator Says He Would Make Series 'Darker' if He Made a New Game

The co-creator of Halo claims fans wouldn't like his vision for new games in the series if he were still working on the franchise.

Marcus Lehto outlined his vision on Twitter, saying he would have a darker and more "grounded military feel" if he made a new Halo game. He believes that many fans wouldn't actually like it and it wouldn't be "everyone's Halo." He went on to note that, although he would respect the current lore of the Halo universe, he would "bench" it to pave the way for a new narrative future for new and old fans alike.

When a fan asked if his vision was close to something like Halo: Reach, Lehto pushed back and seemed to express displeasure with that game: "God no." Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski chimed in on the thread, noting that he wanted to see a "hard R" Halo game, likely suggesting something more edgy and violent. Lehto responded by saying he would want Bleszinski's help with such a thing, prompting the Gears of War creator to invite Lehto to DM him.

I would probably bench much of the current lore - respect it, but build a new future narrative for both the old and new audiences which makes much more sense.

    — Marcus Lehto (@game_fabricator) August 19, 2026

Later on, Lehto told fans that his vision is "fanciful" and doubts Xbox CEO Asha Sharma "gives a s**t." In essence, don't expect any of this to become a reality, at least under the Halo IP. He did, however, offer a piece of advice to leadership: "Halo MUST be built by a local team together, not outsourced around the globe to a group that has ZERO investment in making something great," he said.

This is partially in reference to the fact Halo Studios utilizes a lot of contractors with steady turnover. In many cases, these contractors are cut loose once their project is over, and they bring in a new batch of developers on the next game. Halo: Campaign Evolved experienced a lot of difficulties as a result of outsourcing, and the development challenges reportedly led to leadership diverting resources from a new Halo multiplayer game to save the remake. Lehto has also been outspoken in criticizing the recent Halo remake.

As of right now, the future for Halo is unclear. It seems like a Halo 2 remake may happen at some point and there will almost certainly be another mainline game. What that next step looks like remains up in the air, however.

  9. Modern Warfare 4 Developers Address Need for Balance in Call of Duty

The team behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 believes that players have only gotten better at the game since the franchise became a pop culture juggernaut.

Speaking to IGN ahead of Modern Warfare 4's highly anticipated beta, multiplayer design lead Jacky Reynolds expressed the belief that the average Call of Duty player has only gotten better with time. As a result, it has pushed Infinity Ward and the various teams behind Call of Duty to play their game inside and out to ensure there aren't ways for players to exploit the most powerful items to ruin the fun for others.

"I think in general, the average player is just so much better than they were 15 years ago," Reynolds said as part of a sweeping interview on all things Modern Warfare 4. "A big thing that we have internally, as well as making that victim experience [satisfying], is making sure that we play everything with each other to make sure that there's not any crazy strategies that can break open a whole sandbox. Kind of like when you had One Man Army and grenade launcher rounds and you could just infinitely shoot them across the map [in the original Modern Warfare 2]."

In the original Modern Warfare 2 from 2009, players were able to combine various systems together to cause mayhem. There was a perk known as One Man Army, which allowed the player to pull out a bag and change their loadouts without dying. That may seem relatively harmless, but players discovered that you could use this to also restock ammo for things like grenade launchers. Once they figured that out, they could sit in their spawns and fire infinite grenade launcher rounds into the air and kill enemies without ever seeing them.

It's one of the most infamous exploits in Call of Duty and, as Reynolds noted, the developers put in a lot of effort to make sure history doesn't repeat itself. As of right now, we'll just have to wait and see if they've succeeded with Modern Warfare 4. I asked if there were any weapons that fans should try before they get nerfed or if there are any Infinity Ward was specifically keeping an eye on for balancing, but the developers suggested that they wouldn't intentionally put something in that they don't feel is properly tuned. Ultimately, the goal is to make a game that is fun, but fair.

"As far as balancing all those things out, we've tried to lean into the fun, but also making things fair," added Reynolds. "And it's a conversation I'm sure …

  10. The Big Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Interview — Infinity Ward on the Beta, Matchmaking, and Much More

It has been four years since Infinity Ward shipped its last Call of Duty game, Modern Warfare 2. While most consider it to have been a commercial success, some fans were divided on the greater emphasis on realistic, tactical gameplay, which walked the line of being cumbersome. Meanwhile, aggressive skill-based matchmaking enraged some players. With this year's Modern Warfare 4, Infinity Ward is looking back at what it did right in games like 2019's Modern Warfare, and where it missed the mark in games like Modern Warfare 2.

To find out more, I spoke with Joe Cecot, Studio Multiplayer Creative Director at Infinity Ward, and Jacky Reynolds, Multiplayer Design Lead, ahead of this weekend's Modern Warfare 4 beta. We talked about the way Modern Warfare 4 plays, the decision to make a campaign level available in the beta for the first time ever, and how Infinity Ward is trying to improve on implementing player feedback.

Just before our conversation, some major Call of Duty news broke: the Modern Warfare 4 beta will utilize a new matchmaking system that was introduced to Black Ops 7 in July. It’s a divisive system among fans, meaning it was a hot topic at the start of the interview.

This interview was lightly edited for length and clarity.

IGN: Why is this new matchmaking system that was introduced in Black Ops 7 right for MW4?

Joe Cecot: The franchise over the years has been great about trying different things and seeing what works and doesn't work. Something that's really awesome is that they've continued to try things through BO7 with the intention of helping our launch. Treyarch’s been awesome and Demonware, who runs all of our matchmaking stuff, has been awesome. So the exciting thing is that they're actually starting to share data and be really open about things like, "Hey, here's what we tried and here's what's worked and what hasn't worked." And they're being open again about how we're going into Modern Warfare with our different options. So I think for us on the dev side, where we are aware of that data, it's really nice that we're kind of coming at it from that angle. We feel like that's the healthiest way. It's because on one side, you have perception and you have your own field playing and how does it feel?

But on the other side, you have the data of how is it affecting players and how is it affecting quit rates and how is it affecting the health of …

  11. FromSoftware Isn't Done With Single-Player Games, Miyazaki Reassures

Developer FromSoftware is gearing up for The Duskbloods with a network test and a recent hands-on preview that I got to take part in. Coming off of its most recent game Elden Ring: Nightreign, which is a co-operative multiplayer experience, and now the upcoming PvPvE with The Duskbloods, you might be wondering if the studio has another single-player game lined up. Rest assured, FromSoft isn't putting all its eggs into the multiplayer basket.

As part of an interview I had with FromSoftware president and The Duskbloods director Hidetaka Miyazaki, I asked if doing back-to-back multiplayer games was indicative of the direction the team is going. He reassured us that FromSoftware is not done making single-player games.

"It's not necessarily some big reveal saying this is the direction we plan to go in moving forward. We still have a heavy focus on single-player content as well. This is just something that happened to work out the way it did," Miyazaki told me. He continued, "It's funny because there was never really any big plan that these two games would both release next to each other."

He explained that he and the team have had a lot ideas pile up over the years and he saw The Duskbloods, which is heavily influenced by board games and TTRPGs when it comes to gameplay mechanics, as an opportunity to try those out. "These things seemed like great ideas but didn't really fit the context of a single-player game," Miyazaki explained.

Miyazaki talked about how this is the kind of game he wants to see exist and made something he himself would want to play. "Personally, it's very fun to make a multiplayer game like this. It's not something we've done a lot and we're looking forward to seeing players' reactions and getting feedback," he said.

He concluded by telling me, "If anything, it's like the more you work on something multiplayer for a long time it scratches that itch only to want to make something single-player again."

The future of FromSoftware and the question of whether it will release a sequel to Elden Ring or Bloodborne is a hot topic, after the boss of parent company Kadokawa survived a recent shareholder vote on his future amid increasing pressure from an activist investor who believes the company has failed to capitalize on Elden Ring’s enormous success. The 30 million-selling Elden Ring launched in 2022, and since then FromSoftware has released expansion Shadow of the Erdtree (2024) and …

  12. Best Buy Is Offering a Free $10 Gift Card With These Game Preorders

I’ve been covering deals long enough to remember the good old days when Amazon and Best Buy offered preorder discounts on every video game they sold. Those days are over, but Best Buy is bringing back the spirit of the deal. Right now, when you preorder select games (including The Blood of Dawnwalker), you’ll get a free $10 Best Buy digital gift card at launch. That’s the best (and only) deal going on most of these games. Let’s take a look at the current offerings.

Free $10 Gift Card When You Preorder These Games

So what games are we talking about, specifically? Four games currently qualify for the deal: The Blood of Dawnwalker, Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, FC 27, and NHL 27. With the price of games going up to as high as $80 this console generation (thanks, Nintendo), I’ll take any preorder discount I can get on games I know I’m going to buy at launch.

The Blood of Dawnwalker (PS5, XSX) + $10 Gift Card

The Blood of Dawnwalker comes out September 3. It’s an open-world action-RPG from some of the creative minds behind The Witcher 3 – which is about the most compelling thing you could tell me about any game. It’s set in 14th-century Europe, when powerful vampires have taken over a city in the Carpathian Mountains. You play as a Dawnwalker, a human by day and vampire by night, who fights to take back control of the region. Check out our hands-on preview for a whole lot more info.

Ace Combat: Wings of Theve (PS5, XSX) + $10 Gift Card

Those who enjoy performing aerial combat maneuvers can hop in a digital jet on either September 29 or October 2, depending on which edition you choose. Either way, you’ll go on military missions to take part in dogfights, drop bombs, deploy missiles, and all that good stuff. See our preview for more.

    EA Sports FC 27 (PS5, XSX, Switch 2) + $10 Gift Card

EA might not have the FIFA license anymore, but that hasn’t stopped them from releasing an annual soccer - er, football — game. This year’s edition promises “ultrarealistic” soccer action as well as a new Clubs experience called The Grounds, which lets you “meet, play, and recruit new Club members while competing across a variety of football activities.” Note that The Grounds is not available on last-gen platforms. And click over to our preview to learn more of what to expect.

  13. IO Interactive Celebrates 007 First Light Selling 4 Million Copies in 3 Months

James Bond video game blockbuster 007 First Light has sold 4 million copies in just three months, developer IO Interactive has announced.

The achievement comes amid uncertainty over the future of the James Bond video game franchise under Amazon, despite widespread acclaim for First Light itself, built by Hitman maker IO.

But for now, at least, there's a lot to celebrate — with 4 million copies in three months an impressive achievement, with the game's Nintendo Switch 2 launch still to come.

Today, IO also recommitted to updating First Light further with an array of post-launch updates, including a New Game+ campaign option, a fresh mission starring pirate king Bawma (portrayed by Lenny Kravitz), plus addition Tac Sim challenges, weapons and cosmetics, as well as a photo mode.

What will come next for the First Light franchise remains uncertain, however. Built as the first part of a potential Bond trilogy, any future sequel, if officially greenlit, will now need to be published by Amazon Games.

IO published First Light itself, similar to how it handled Hitman 3, something which enables it to recoup a greater share of the projects and have full creative control over the game's direction and story. But this deal was signed when the Bond franchise was under the control of MGM and EON Productions.

It remains to be seen how the series will be handed with Amazon backing the project, with the U.S. company potentially having a bigger say in what it wants to see in the game, including synergy with its own plans for a new James Bond movie.

One thing remains certain, however: 007 First Light is very good. IGN gave the game a 9/10 in our 007 First Light review, noting that it was "obsessed with bringing the Bond fantasy to life in a way no one has ever managed before" and describing it as "the best Bond game I’ve ever played."

Last month, IO was forced to scale back work on its under-wraps fantasy RPG codenamed Project Dragon, which had been partly funded by cash from Xbox. But now — with Microsoft laying off thousands of workers, offloading studios and scrapping various external partnerships — IO's game has also fallen victim to tightening purse strings.
