Hadn't realised it was so long ago that I cycled from Mitchelstown to (almost) Cloughjordan on a blazing hot day. Still no cycleways alongside the roads of Tipperary - the one thing that scared me was tractors bootin' it along the highway towing tanks of… something, at high speed https://www.nenaghguardian.ie/2018/06/29/recalling-macdonaghs-cycle-to-cloughjordan/ #Cloughjordan #Cycleway #Tipperary #UpTippUpTippUpTipp

This is the same Road Safety Team that objected to a #cycleway continuing across a junction but approved this as a better solution in #kingsLynn #NorfolkUK - I feel the main reason this hasn't killed anyone yet is that most people ignore it and rejoin the carriageway before the end of the road, or turn left and U turn (the "primary" cycle route continues on-road away from the camera). Or give up cycling this route after one attempt and drive because that's what #NorfolkCountyCouncil expect

Wait up, Dunedin. The Albany St cycleway project which was cancelled last month is miraculously back on track.
The 8-7 vote was made possible when Cr Jim O'Malley, having reflected on things he'd previously said about the project's opponents, re-entered the arena and saved the day.
Voted for: Barker, Benson-Pope, Garey, Gilbert, Laufiso, Mayhem, O'Malley, Walker.
Voted against: Radich, Acklin, Houlahan, Lucas, Vandervis, Weatherall & Whiley.

[Edit: I left out Mandy Mayhem in error]

This is one of two cycling viaducts as part of the old Castleton and Bolton line. What I love about this is that the wire mesh has been taken over by plant life. It's so beautiful to see.

A newly rebuilt drystone walled section of road; Portobello Rd, Dunedin .At a guess 10 km, but a local may correct me. Well done to the stonemasons who dedicated their craft to lay stone ( instead of modern concrete shoring technique that has little character in comparison)
Sections of this harbour drive were widened as well for a cycle/ walkway. Can do a full circle by crossing the harbour on a small ferry and riding the trail to the city and back.

CW: Sydney cycleway nonsense
Looking at the latest data, seeing the next shortest safe route from Parramatta to CBD form via Homebush just seems surreal. It was already a weird connection but they are finally making an effort.
For at least the past 4-5 years Putney to Drummoyne or working on the link from Concord West to Rodd Point would have solved this issue but for some reason it just never happened? We were just left with around 1km of a missing connection that would have resolved this.
There is something really funny around this Parramatta Road transformation, within the space of a year, a bunch of cycleways have just sprung up on it as the councils likely want to cash in on the grants. Usual candidates (Canada Bay, Strathfield, Ryde) are seemingly holding out but hey, they have announced and I have seen actual construction workers there so they are holding up their end of the bargain.
I'm starting to feel that the more likely outcome is going to be a dedicated cycleway down Parramatta Road (~20km) before we see the previous sections (1-2km for Putney-Drummoyne, ignoring Drummoyne road which is fairly safe but proper lines would be great or 3-5km of Concord West going to Rodd Point - Tbf, Bay Run is in Construction but ffs, feel like Canada Bay council has to dragged away from the 1950s and modernise).
There is also a bit of irony of seeing Auburn Council and Bankstown council push for connecting things up and have done so much work in such little time that it kind of puts Canada Bay to shame (This isn't to say the bike group in Canada Bay is bad, they are super active just that the place is ran by rich fucks that throw a tantrum when something is inconvenient).
It is taking time but I'm hopeful that maybe in a year or so, getting around everywhere by bike is no longer going to be a hassle nor will it feel like you need to take detours.
