#MechanicalKeyboards aficionados out there, I need your #help !
I
My daily driver is an #ErgoDash, that my kid wants next month or so, when mid school will start and I'll probably need to buy a PC for that...
So, I'm planning to buy a new #Piantor Pro BT (yes, #Bluetooth ) from #Keebart online store, for me.
Opinions on that keyboard?
I could actually buy another identical ErgoDash but I was thinking to try something lighter and smaller.
Any feedback? -
#Question for all you #MechanicalKeyboards aficionados out there: #QWERTY or #Colemak Mod-DH?
Situation: my 10yo kid will begin mid-school in September and wants my #ErgoDash (see picture) for his own computer (that I still have to buy!).
ErgoDash is currently configured with a QWERTY layout, customized with Italian accented letters as per picture.
Should I reconfigure it to Colemak Mod-DH, instead, before giving him the keeb? -
Unsure if I've even mentioned this anywhere before,
but I've maintain a "Steam Curator" page for the last few years, keeping a log of how well games handle custom keyboard layouts - feel free to follow it if you want to see a note on Steam Store pages telling you whether a game's keybind settings are up-to-snuff:

After the #MechanicalKeyboards one (currently in sleepy mode, since I'm pretty satisfied with my #ErgoDash), and after #Emacs (and #OrgMode) one I'm still into, I've found a new rabbit hole!
I was not interested in playing with my kid's Nintendo Switch, but I unfortunately followed my colleagues "advice" and now I'm playing a lot with a basically infinite game: #NoMansSky .
Well, positive thing is that, being /my/ tunnel, I'm happily satisfied in it. 😅😇 -
Finally calling this done! Say hello to the HellSplit a hand-wired, asymmetric 40% split #ortholinear keyboard with vertical column stagger and two rotary encoders. Powered by a pair of Raspberry Pi Pico's #RP2040 and #KMK firmware

I just found out about KeyCon, a mechanical keyboard convention happening in DC tomorrow.
https://www.pennsocialdc.com/event-details/keycon-2025
I would 100% be there if it weren't for the ridiculous birthday parade clusterf*cking up the city. They picked the wrong day for this thing.

Well, now that my lily58 ergo mech board is down I'm falling back to my spare. It's an Epomaker TH 66 and its fine for a standard board.
I got to say though going from column staggered back to row staggered is not a happy place for me.

New Mechanical Keyboards from AMIGAstore for the A1200
After extensive research and development, AMIGAstore has launched a new series of high-quality mechanical keyboards, designed by Sergiusz specifically for the Commodore AMIGA A1200. These keyboards offer a superior experience compared to the original membrane keyboards, making them an ideal choice for those seeking
improved precision, durability, and tactile feedback, or simply looking to replace their old original keyboard. Thanks to mechanical switch technology, each key is equipped with individual switches, ensuring greater reliability and much more precise performance. One of the standout models is the Kailh Brown, which offers tactile feedback without an audible click. With an actuation force of 45g and a total travel distance of 4.0 mm, Kailh Brown switches provide a smooth bump sensation upon reaching the actuation point. These switches have an impressive durability of approximately 70 million
keystrokes, ensuring a long lifespan for those who want a keyboard that will last for years.Another available model is the Kailh Red, which is characterized by its linear action. With an actuation force of 45g and a total travel of 4.0 mm, Kailh Red switches offer smooth and uninterrupted movement, free of bumps or resistance. Like the Kailh Brown, these switches also have a 70-million-keystroke lifespan, making them a highly durable option for A1200 users looking for a fluid and precise experience. The Kailh Blue model, on the other hand, stands out for its tactile feedback combined with a distinctive click sound. With an actuation force of 50g and a total travel
distance of 4.0 mm, these switches produce a characteristic clicking sound when pressed, providing a clear auditory and tactile indication that the key has been activated. Just like the other models, Kailh Blue switches also have a 70-millionkeystroke lifespan, ensuring long-lasting and reliable performance.Check out the product at this link
AMIGAstore‘s new mechanical keyboards for the A1200 represent a significant improvement over old membrane keyboards. Featuring high-quality switches, users
can experience a more precise and satisfying typing response, enhancing both functionality and comfort. These keyboards are designed to be a durable, high-quality upgrade, perfect for those looking to enhance their AMIGA experience. With these new mechanical keyboards, AMIGAstore and Sergiusz have successfully
created a premium alternative that not only meets expectations but also significantly
enhances the overall user experience in terms of both performance and durability. If
you’re looking to upgrade your Commodore AMIGA A1200, these keyboards are the
perfect choice.Check out the product at this link

@acops1
- See a summary of my #MechanicalKeyboards life here https://marcoxbresciani.codeberg.page/keyboards.html
- And this is instead the whole story https://marcoxbresciani.codeberg.page/keyboards/my-keyboard-story.html
- And the last chapter with my #ErgoDash https://marcoxbresciani.codeberg.page/keyboards/ergodash/ergodash.htmlWelcome into the tunnel.

Dear #MechanicalKeyboards folks, I've decided to give up.
I've switched my #ErgoDash to #ColemakDH in mid October (see https://marcoxbresciani.codeberg.page/keyboards/ergodash/ergodash.html#ergodash---day-443- ) but I've never been a touch-typer and it's very difficult to find even 20 minutes per day for training (see https://www.keybr.com/profile/f5vmplt ).
While working I'm slowing down everyone, waiting for me typing and doing bunch of errors.
I don't think I'll continue: I'm updating my #QMK layers to go back to #QWERTY.
20+ years of QWERTY are hard to change. -
@fedicat
You can read my story with #ErgoDash at https://marcoxbresciani.codeberg.page/keyboards/ergodash/ergodash.html and my whole (long!) story with #MechanicalKeyboards at https://marcoxbresciani.codeberg.page/keyboards/my-keyboard-story.html -
And here it is, my (current? latest? last?) interaction with the #MechanicalKeyboards world.
https://marcoxbresciani.codeberg.page/keyboards/ergodash/ergodash.html#ergodash---day-521-
I think that, this time, together with my lovely #ErgoDash (really, my endgame keyboard), I also have reached nirvana, with the endgame _also_ for the #keycaps set.
See you in next episode, when the keycaps will arrive and I will write about them!
For now, thanks again to @hyde for having wrote the toot about #YuzuKeycaps: you've shown me the light! -
Ciao #FediHelp,
and #MechanicalKeyboards entusiasts.*question*: what do you think about keycaps in lowercase?
I'm (still! 😅) playing with FKCaps.com/custom to create my perfect keycaps set, for my endgame #ErgoDash and I'm thinking to use GNU Free Sans for the keycaps, in lowercase for letters.
Opinions?
-
I must say I’m not terribly impressed with these #Topre keyswitches.
-
I still have to update my #ErgoDash online "diary", but I took another step into the #MechanicalKeyboards rabbit hole: today I've swapped my keycaps (these: https://ymdkey.com/products/107-dsa-profile-gray-orange-keycaps-for-id75-xd75-planck-preonic-niu40) to finally go with #ColemakDH (https://colemakmods.github.io/mod-dh/).
It's still not the default layer, and I'm not a touch-typer, but it's one click away when I turn on the PC, and it's about time to learn!
I'm sure I'll get crazy learning it, but... why not!? 😇 -
Limiting choices: I've decided to keep only the fonts with standard (or almost standard) euro symbol.
Most precise is FreeSans and FreeSans Bold second. Not formally standard, but close, Atkinson.Dear #AskFedi and #MechanicalKeyboards lovers, I need your collective wisdom on which #font to use to customize my next keycaps for my #ErgoDash.
Please take a look at https://marcoxbresciani.codeberg.page/keyboards/ergodash/ergodash.html#orgd07ab3f and let me know you're preference, please.
I'm really unsure. -
Dear #AskFedi and #MechanicalKeyboards lovers, I need your collective wisdom on which #font to use to customize my next keycaps for my #ErgoDash.
Here the reasoning and sample pictures: https://marcoxbresciani.codeberg.page/keyboards/ergodash/ergodash.html#orgd07ab3f
(You can right-click and open in another tab/window to see pictures better)Choices are:
- Atkinson Hyperlegible Font
- Cascadia Code Bold
- FreeMono Bold
- FreeSans Bold
- Kurinto Seri Bold... and I can't even use a poll because they are five! 😒
Which one do you prefer?
