#smartTube is insisting I sign in... Which I did but if I sign in I can't see my history and I can't see my search history either So it's a crap system and I would love some input about other options I might have if there are any #tech type people who know any alternatives?

I use a Firestick on my main TV and I’m almost certain Amazon would be using ACR on it. The amount of ads it shows drives me mad as well.

I’m just waiting for Apple to release their next 4K unit and I’ll get rid of the Firestick. No point investing in 4+ year old tech when a new version is just around the corner.

Folks, need help! I have no sound on my #FireStick in the #DisneyPlus app. Everything else like #Netflix and #YouTube works like a charm. I tried contacting them, chatted with them for about an hour, they made me do stupid things like clearing cache, rebooting the device and such, but of course no result. Nice thing about the new stick is installing #APKs. I installed #Kodi on it and #NewPipe bye #YouTube #ads. The stick was cheaper than updating from the #RaspberryPi3 that was running #Libreelec but couldn't keep up to the Kodi #addons

A minor but still cool thing about the #Onn 4K Pro box is the amount of onboard RAM it has. For example I use KODi a lot but also watch stuff on other apps like YouTubeTV or Prime Video. On the #FireStick I’m used to flipping between them and having to wait a few seconds as each inits (because it exited running as other apps started). This morning, started the TV and ran KODi and it instantly started. Still in the b/g. Hadn’t exited since the last run. That’s nice. It’s the little things.

After reading the hype, I bought an #Onn 4K Pro #streaming box from #Walmart yesterday and hooked it up. Just like the #GoogleTV interface a lot more than the #Firestick one. It has the Google Assistant built into the box itself (ie the streaming unit is a mic as well as a speaker) and the remote is backlit, has a "find" feature and is generally comfortable to hold. I really like it. But I'm going to firesale (see what I did there?) some of my older firesticks now. Finally.

That’s it. Packed up the #AppleTV for the last time. What finally did it for me was the #Netflix app not correctly detecting streaming bandwidth and increasing resolution. And it’s done this before. Play a show, it pixelates like I’m streaming over a 300bps modem, which is sometimes normal with apps until they detect that you in fact have an #AX5400 with #wifi6 and #beamforming and the quality increases. NF app quality didn’t increase. Quit out of the app (I HATE that you can only endtask on the ATV with its own remote and ONLY with swiping turned on, which I don’t have by default because it causes misfires when clicking), start NF app again, same shit stream quality. Back to #FireStick, quality perfect.

Jesus Apple. How do you get things so right (#iPhone, #iPad) and yet so miserably wrong (AppleTV, #AppleWatch and #MacOS - yeah y’all heard me!) almost dead-on 50% of the time either way?

Just as fascinating: that people don’t even realize how much *better* the alternatives are. 😵‍💫🤷🏻‍♂️

Uma outra coisa que tem me intrigado é que o Mi Stick não desliga quando desligamos a TV. Seria legal se ele se desligasse da mesma forma que o Fire Stick desliga. Por enquanto a única coisa que está pesando a favor do Mi Stick é usar apps da PlayStore. O Fire Stick falta isso.

Have to either force disable DV or HDR10+ in order for playback. Which can be done in #KODi. KODi on #AndroidTV however works fine because google’s exoplayer build doesn’t have this issue.
