  4. #idiot47 #GOP #Republicans #warcrimes #WaronAmerica I’m a pacifist. I have always practiced peaceful protest and non-violent resistance. I’ve always advocated that violence only breeds violence. I am nearing a personal reckoning. If the idiot in the White House really wants to wage war on Americans, then it is war he shall have. What he’s done here in Los Angeles and in Washington, DC, is unconscionable. He appears to be preparing to cross a red line in Chicago. If he does, then war is the only option. I love Chicago. It is a beautiful city. I have friends there that I am worried about. I will stand with and defend Chicago however I can. Chicago may well be the flashpoint where we say NO to fascism.

Myanmar Is Shaping Up To Be The Next Front Of The Sino-US New Cold War

    By Andrew Korybko

China wants to retain access to Kachin State’s rare earths, the US wants to poach them, and their escalating competition over this part of Myanmar could make it the next New Cold War flashpoint.

Reuters reported that the US’ Myanmar policy might shift towards more diplomatic engagement with either the ruling junta or the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) in an attempt to obtain access to the enormous rare earth mineral reserves in the second’s eponymous state. At present, the US is suspected of clandestinely supporting some of the armed anti-junta groups, but the KIA isn’t thought to have benefited due to their isolated position along Myanmar’s mountainous border with China and India.

This geography poses a challenge to the redirection of these resources from China to India for example regardless of Kachin State’s final political status, whether autonomous within a (con)federated Myanmar or independent, but that’s assuming that China doesn’t intervene. Reuters cited an expert on Kachin State who said that “If they want to transport the rare earths from these mines, which are all on the Chinese border, to India, there’s only one road. And the Chinese would certainly step in and stop it.”

The reports late last year about the joint security firm that China and Myanmar were planning at the time were analysed here and concluded that the risks associated with even a PMC-led intervention in support of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor (CMEC) make this scenario unlikely. For as important as CMEC is for helping China reduce its logistical dependence on the easily blockaded Strait of Malacca, Kachin’s rare earth minerals are even more important, so its calculations could change.

Nevertheless, China is known for advancing its national interests through hybrid economic-diplomatic means, not military force. It’s therefore much more probable that it might soon ramp up these efforts with either the junta, the KIA, or both to preempt any forthcoming US diplomatic campaign. The first scenario would aim to restore the military’s control over Kachin’s rare earth reserves, the second would work towards Kachin’s de facto independence, while the third would seek that state’s autonomy.

In the order that they were mentioned: the military is on the backfoot in Kachin despite over four years of Chinese support so it’s unlikely that any new approach by China will reverse this trend; China’s decades of engagement with eastern Shan State’s de facto independent United Wa State Army (including over rare earths) could serve as a precedent for something similar with the KIA; while seeking Kachin’s autonomy in a Chinese-mediated political settlement would be the best-case scenario for Beijing.

In any case, it’s unimaginable that China will let the US poach Kachin’s rare earth reserves without making any attempt to preempt this powerplay, so the Sino-US rivalry in Myanmar is expected to intensify. Kachin is at the centre of this struggle, which his nowadays driven by access to that region’s rare earths even though it used to be about CMEC, with Myanmar’s political future (centralized, decentralized, devolved, or partitioned) only being a means to the aforementioned end.

China has the edge over the US due to geography (including the nearness of its rare earth processing facilities), its existing ties with both the junta and the KIA, and the allure that any new approach (possibly linked to CMEC) could have for facilitating a pragmatic deal between them. That said, the US might at the very least try to provoke an armed Chinese intervention of some sort to embroil it in a quagmire even if the odds of this scenario are low, all as part of their escalating New Cold War rivalry over Myanmar.

  6. More evidence of Trump's racist DOJ policies.

Trump’s DOJ is recommending just one day in jail for the ex-Louisville detective convicted of violating Breonna Taylor’s civil rights—despite criticism from many who say this token punishment ignores her tragic death and signals a retreat from broader police reforms. While the officer didn’t fire the fatal shots, the raid remains a flashpoint in policing and racial justice debates. Will this shift end meaningful accountability, or is it just another turn in an ongoing fight? 10. Authoritarian criminal stumbles badly in liberal city.
"There is no doubt that as their other initiatives have stalled and popular opinion is turning against the administration on every issue, the Trump regime is trying to establish a police state. But in making Los Angeles their flashpoint, they chose a poor place to demonstrate dominance. Unlike a smaller, Republican-dominated city whose people might side with the administration, Los Angeles is a huge, multicultural city that the federal government does not have the personnel to subdue.

Trump stumbled as he climbed the stairs to Air Force One tonight."--Heather Cox-Richardson

Trump is also stumbling in Los Angeles on his way to becoming the dictator he wants to be.

I'll probably start #3DPrinting them on the Flashforge too, although I may give up if it requires too much calibration.

So these past couple of months have really been the prime time for me to finally get ahold of a lot of the things that I have always wanted. I managed to get a robotic vaccum, a nice set of speakers, and, of todays topic, a 3D printer. The specific model I got isn't particuarly exciting. It's a random Chinese brand called Flashforge, and the model is the Flashforge Adventurer 5M. I got it at the beginning of February, and it arrived while I was sick. 15. @mgorny from an upstream point of view, there seems to be some friction when the distro says "we want to use xxx dep instead of yyy dep please add just one more config option" and it's not in our test matrix and isn't something we want to support or maintain #ifdefs everywhere. e.g. in fwupd points of contention are systemd, bash, gnutls, flashrom, libqmi, glibc, sqlite, libcbor and most recently pygobject. It's exhausting trying to support every distro.

  16. The Amazing Screw-On Head Returns! Unseen Animated Pilot Expanded!

This pilot was quite the project. A bit of lightning in a bottle. Based on a book by Mike Mignolia, developed by Bryan Fuller, Chris Prynoski directing, voiced by some big names. It was a pilot, that unfortunately did not get a greenlite to series. It came in juuust before the Adult Swim flashpoint.

I watch it once every year. It is just that good.

  17. #Serbia’s prime minister resigns as #AntiCorruption #protests sparked by deadly collapse swell

    By JOVANA GEC
    Updated 3:12 PM EST, January 28, 2025

BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — "Serbia’s populist prime minister, #MilosVucevic, resigned Tuesday in an attempt to calm political tensions stoked by weeks of massive anti-corruption protests that started after the deadly collapse of a concrete overhang at a recently renovated train station.

"The November collapse at the central station in Novi Sad, one of Serbia’s largest cities, killed 15 people and happened months after it reopened, fueling accusations that the construction was unsafe. The tragedy has become a flashpoint for broader dissatisfaction with Serbia’s #AuthoritarianRule and has led to growing public demands for transparency in the #Graft-plagued country that has carried out a quick series of large infrastructure projects, mostly with Chinese companies.

"'It is my appeal for everyone to calm down the passions and return to dialogue,' Vucevic said at a news conference announcing his resignation, which was followed hours later by Novi Sad’s mayor stepping down.

"The #protests, including one Tuesday evening in Novi Sad that drew thousands of people, have spread to streets and university campuses throughout the country of roughly 6.6 million people, as citizens from all walks of life, including actors, farmers, lawyers and judges, have thrown their support behind the student movement that has rattled the country’s most powerful figure, President #AleksandarVucic."

  27. The Lab Platform Governance, Media, and Technology (PGMT), at the Centre for Media, Communication and Information Research (ZeMKI), University of Bremen, is hosting the next AoIR Flashpoint Symposium on 3-4 june 2025. #AoIR #GenerativeAI #PlatformGovernance

  28. At the Pennsylvania statehouse, I met an apostle named #Abby #Abildness,
whom I came to understand as a kind of Kingdom diplomat.

It was the spring of 2023,
and she had recently returned from Iraqi Kurdistan,
where she had met with Kurdish leaders she believed to be descended from King Solomon,
    and who she said wanted
    “holy governance to go forth.”

I watched YouTube videos of prophets broadcasting from their basements.

I watched a streaming show called "FlashPoint",
    where apostles and prophets deliver news from God;

guests have included Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu,
because another dimension of the NAR is that the movement is a prominent advocate of Christian Zionism.

I came to understand how the movement amounts to a sprawling political machine.

    The apostles and prophets,
    speaking for God,
decide which candidates and policies advance the Kingdom.

The movement’s prayer networks and newsletters amount to voter lists and voter guides.

A growing ecosystem of podcasts and streaming shows
    such as FlashPoint
amounts to a Kingdom media empire.

And the overall vision of the movement means that people are not engaged just during election years but,
like the people at Gateway House of Prayer, 24/7.

    As November’s election neared,
I watched the whole juggernaut crank into action to return Trump to the White House.

Wallnau, in partnership with the Trump-aligned "America First Policy Institute",
promoted an effort called "Project 19",
targeting voters in 19 swing counties.

He also launched something called the "Courage Tour", which similarly targeted swing states,
and I attended one event in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

It looked like an old-fashioned tent revival,
except that it was also an aggressive pro-Trump mobilization effort.

Wallnau dabbed frankincense oil onto foreheads,
    anointing voters into God’s army.

Another speaker said that Kamala Harris would be a
    “devil in the White House.”

Others cast Democrats as agents of Lucifer,

and human history as a struggle between the godless forces of secular humanism and God’s will for humankind.

    A march called
“A Million Women” on the National Mall
drew tens of thousands of people
and culminated with the smashing of an altar
    representing demonic strongholds in America.

With the Capitol dome as their backdrop,
people took turns bashing the altar
as music surged and others prayed,
and when it was rubble, the prophet Lou Engle declared,

“We’re going to point to the north, south, and east, and west, and command America!

    The veil has been ripped!”

The NAR movement was a major source of the “low-propensity voters”
    who backed Trump.

    🔸Frederick Clarkson,
a senior research analyst with Political Research Associates,
    which tracks antidemocratic movements,
has been documenting the rise of the NAR for years,
and warning about its theocratic goals.

He believes that a certain condescension,
    and perhaps failure of imagination,
has kept outsiders from understanding what he has come to see as the most significant religious movement of the 21st century,
and one that poses a profound threat to democracy.

“Certain segments of society have not been willing to understand where these people are coming from,”
    Clarkson told me.

“For me, it’s part of the story of our times.

It’s a movement that has continued to rise, gathered political strength, attracted money, built institutions.

And the broad center-left doesn’t understand what’s happening.”

Which leaves the question of what happens now.
