„We should acknowledge that NATO has done nothing to stop the U.S. provisioned Israeli #genocide or to restrain Israel.
On the contrary, NATO seeks fuller integration of Israel’s “security” into NATO strategies. (…)
We should note that Israel possesses at least 91 thermonuclear weapons which it refuses to declare.“

In addition to the BBC article below, some theses expressing my opinions.
One of the reasons why the US used two nuclear weapons against Japan was simply that a big and expensive endeavor like the Manhattan Project has so much momentum that it is very difficult to leave its results unused.
While de iure Truman was ultimately responsible for that use, de facto his responsibility was the smallest of all people involved.
I imagine the other people as well as the circumstances twisted his tail to make that decision.
Note that later Truman did not permit the use of nuclear weapons in the Korean War, even though narrow military considerations would arguably have justified it.There is no doubt that the Manhattan Project was a big scientific and engineering success.
But it is very difficult to say how ethical the Manhattan Project was and the answer would be much more complicated.
Similarly, it is very difficult to evaluate its legacy with a single word, "negative" or "positive".BBC article:

Here we go again…Allan Behm (writing for the Australian Institute) serves up another word salad and take pockshots at… Australia’s adherence to the NPT via… well, everything submarine and US alliance with a limp lettuce. Or is it a swipe at Senator #Conroy ‘s interview performance on 7:30? You tell me, I couldn’t decide which.
I might also note that the Virginia boats to be sold to Australia are capable of launching US Cruise missiles (Tomahawk and its latest nuclear capable incarnation) via torpoedo tubes (simple google search will reveal that much). Hence, so are current USN Virginia boats not just the new ones to be built — that makes the USN SSGN rotations in HMAS Stearling in 2032 the author references here irrelevent — we’d be hosting potentially nuclear armed SSN (from the US and potentially the UK) well before then… might already have.
My opinion of the author’s writing craft is decidedly going on a slide into the bin. Read him if you must, just keep your wits about you and read him very carefully and have a think about it.
Just in case my writing here attracts critical comments, in my defence, this is a toot, not an analysis, nor anything I’d consider ready for publication.

WORLD BEAT: Eighty-One Years After Hiroshima, a Russian Missile Crosses NATO’s Border

Eighty-one years ago today, on August 6, 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan—the first use of a nuclear weapon in warfare. Approximately 140,000 people died by the end of that year from the explosion, burns, injuries and radiation-related illness (Associated Press, 2026a).
That anniversary should make the latest confrontation between Russia and NATO particularly difficult to dismiss.
A Russian Kh-101 cruise missile entered Polish airspace during a massive attack on Ukraine on July 30 and crashed into a field near Tarnawa-Kolonia, roughly 100 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. The missile left a crater approximately 10 meters wide. Nobody was killed, and Polish officials said there was no evidence that Poland had been deliberately targeted (Reuters, 2026a).
A MISSILE INSIDE NATO
Polish and allied fighter aircraft were scrambled as Russia launched more than 70 missiles and approximately 280 drones against targets across Ukraine. At least 10 people were killed, including children, and more than 50 were wounded during the broader attack (Associated Press, 2026b).
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said there had been “no direct threat” because the missile landed in an uninhabited location. He added that Polish forces were prepared to destroy it if it had continued flying (Reuters, 2026a).
NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte called the incursion “yet another reckless act by Russia and a dangerous consequence of its war against Ukraine” (Associated Press, 2026b).
Poland later confirmed that the weapon was a recently manufactured Russian Kh-101. Warsaw summoned the Russian ambassador and delivered a formal protest. Polish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maciej Wewior expressed Poland’s “unequivocal condemnation of hostile actions” threatening the country and its citizens (Reuters, 2026b).
NOT ARTICLE 5—BUT NOT NOTHING
NATO has not treated the incident as a deliberate armed attack requiring collective military action under Article 5. That restraint is understandable. A missile accidentally leaving its intended flight path is not the same as Moscow ordering a strike against Poland.
Nevertheless, this incident cannot be separated from the repeated penetration of NATO airspace by Russian missiles and drones. Romania recently shot down several Russian-origin drones after years of incursions, while Poland and the Baltic states have repeatedly scrambled aircraft and strengthened their air defenses.
Every such incident forces NATO commanders to make decisions within minutes. They must determine whether an approaching object is malfunctioning, off course or beginning a deliberate attack. Eventually, one of those decisions could involve a populated area, a military installation or a manned Russian aircraft.
THE LESSON OF AUGUST 6
The lesson of Hiroshima is not simply that nuclear weapons are destructive. It is that political and military decisions can cross irreversible thresholds.
Russia and NATO are not presently at war. Neither side appears to want a direct conflict that could escalate toward nuclear weapons. Yet Russia continues launching enormous attacks close to NATO territory while testing how much danger the alliance will tolerate.
Eighty-one years after humanity first used an atomic weapon in war, restraint remains essential. Restraint, however, cannot mean pretending that missiles falling inside NATO countries are normal.
