The Aldridge Mansion is based on Merchant's House Museum, a real place in NYC that is allegedly haunted by the first owner's daughter Gertrude. The staff are even open about it. Luckily, Gertrude’s ghost is said to be very friendly to museum guests

The Albany Charter half dollar is a commemorative half dollar struck by the United States Bureau of the Mint in 1936.
It was designed by sculptor Gertrude K. Lathrop, who lived in #Albany, #NewYork's state capital.
In 1936, Congress approved many commemorative coins for issuance, including some of mostly local significance, such as the Albany piece.

It’s a shame The Something Else Press - publishers of Gertrude Stein, John Cage, Robert Filliou, William Burroughs, Merce Cunningham and others - isn’t still running.
Or maybe it isn’t. Maybe a more interesting idea would be for, say, Open Humanities Press to publish the intermedia texts and artworks of The Something Else Press and to identify OHP as their original place of publication – just as Barth can ‘readily imagine Beckett’s next novel, for example, as Tom Jones,’ and he himself has ‘always aspired to write Burton’s version of The 1001 Nights’.

A fine piece of often-overlooked civic architecture here in Fitzroy, Melbourne - the former cable tram engine house on the corner of Nicholson and Gertrude Streets. It used to haul long cables under the streets to pull trams along the Clifton Hill and Nicholson Street lines, which operated from 1887 to 1940.

On January 9, 1858, American botanist, bryologist, and educator Elizabeth Gertrude Britton (née Elizabeth Gertrude Knight) was born. She and her husband, Nathaniel Lord Britton played a significant role in the fundraising and creation of the New York Botanical Garden. She is best known for her lasting contributions to bryology, the study of mosses.
