  1. A few people said the main character here was not developed in an interesting way, or that there were too many pages or people in the novel, and those people and I will never like the same books. This is a fricking masterpiece. It broke my heart and I never wanted it to end #StoryGraph #DemonCopperhead app.thestorygraph.com/books/7c

My mom asked me to recommend a place for lunch with two of her oldest friends and I took them to a courtyard I like, and they all enjoyed it. My mom and I walked there and we sat outside in the sunshine and had fun, got home half an hour before the rain started again.

  3. I use *a lot* of sunblock because I have vitiligo, an autoimmune disorder that means my body has patches of skin with no melanin. As a public service, here are my Greek-summer-tested very best sunblocks in Europe for burn-prone skin.

The Avène and La Roche-Posay are also unscented, and the latter has less plastic in the packaging than most. The Frezyderm feels amazing but is scented and the most expensive.

  4. Question for wildlife people and cat-knowers. My suburban British outdoor cat has recently moved to my mother’s place in Corfu. She is concerned that a marten (beech marten) spotted in the area might be a danger to my furry snugly coward.

It seems unlikely to me that these two predators would get involved with each other in any way, regardless of the depredations of martens on the local chicken population. Thoughts?

  5. Earlier today I boosted a post from @adam_y celebrating the many different languages we see on mastodon. One corollary is that a lot of people posting in English are not native speakers and the nuances of what they write are not necessarily those of the Anglo-US-Antipodean internet. I’m a translator, and alert to the #misunderstandings I already see arising, so this is just to say don’t assume everyone uses English precisely as you do. #etiquette #LanguagePolicing #GoodFaith

  9. This has been playing in my brain all day, help me complete it?

There was three men come out of the west
    The future for to buy,
And these three men made a solemn vow:
    John Mastodon should die.
They NDAd, they scorned, didn’t research him,
    Throwed slanders at his head.
And these three men made a solemn vow:
    John Mastodon was dead.

  10. I have spent nearly 50 years saying “Fuck you” to a culture that told me I should cover my pigmentation disorder with makeup, stay pale so it doesn’t show, or bleach the rest of my skin to match.

But I won’t deny I was pleased to see it slowly repigmenting, and watching myself bloom white over the last two months has been pretty horrible.

  12. I know you’re all here for the exciting life updates, so this is just to say that I used citric acid to descale everything and the electric kettle and it worked beautifully - no fumes, no stinks, just shiny stainless steel. #GreenCleaning

  13. This is another of Brookmyre’s crime novels that feels so visual that it’s almost auditioning to be filmed. It would make a great prestige tv series. I could almost cast it. (Eileen Atkinson and Chris Pine, eg)
Seriously, though, so many of his books would. The Angelique de Xavia series, say. I’m amazed no one has taken him up on it yet.

  14. I love #TraditionalMusic from many parts of the world, but don’t play it, or even much sing it, but for #SeaShanties, which you are encouraged to sing even when your volume exceeds your tunefulness.

I am fascinated by #HandCrafted things, and I want to get back into #ceramics and learn more #crochet, but mainly make #papiermâché, especially masks.

I am fascinated by #archaeology and #PreModern and #EarlyModern history and literature, especially, but not exclusively #plays.

  15. An old one, describing abject surrender to a lover, in which the singer declares herself the servant of her beloved, now and always.

Two newer songs, one with a reference to a treasure map, and another one pledging to love forever, until the birds fall from the sky.

Can you think of any lyrics along those lines? Any genre, really. The more famous the better. Any of the three would be a huge help!

  16. All these apps that are supposed to help you manage adhd by logging activities and making lists - how is that even supposed to work? A couple shopping lists a week and 3-4 workouts logged and that’s it, I’m out of extra cognitive capacity #ADHD #ADHDLife #ADHDSupport

  17. Eggs: these were dyed in the traditional manner, simmered for long hours with vinegar and many, many onion skins, plus some saffron that was going stale so I threw it in. The result is very tasty - even the white has flavour. #food #cooking #FoodTraditions #GreekEaster #EasterEggs

A friend and I have discovered a mutual love of sea kayaking and want to train for a short excursion next summer and a much more challenging one in a couple of years.

    Any advice?

Disclaimer: I don’t do routines or much in the way of detail or tracking (ADHD to the max) and if your answer contains the word macros or anything too prescriptive I will just ignore it, while thinking kindly of you for wanting to help.

  20. The Greek salad the cookbooks don’t tell you about is this traditional Winter classic: shredded cabbage (with or without grated carrots) dressed with lemon, olive oil, and salt. #GreekSalad #cooking #FoodTraditions

  21. I don’t mean to make light of Brexit-induced food shortages, but I think we should all go back to eating seasonally, and not expect fresh tomatoes and other summer crops in February in the Northern Hemisphere. It takes an extraordinary amount of energy, ingenuity, and other resources to achieve, and only profit and habit justify such a squandering. #FoodDistribution #SeasonalEating
