  1. 💁🏻‍♀️ TIL: ☀️🧴 A #JAMA #Dermatology meta-analysis pooled 17 studies covering more than 321,000 people and found that a history of painful, blistering sunburns raised the odds of squamous cell carcinoma by 51% to 69%, with severe #childhood burns linked to up to three times the risk.

Researchers caution that the evidence is uncertain because it relies on people recalling past burns. The study reinforces #sun protection such as Slip, Slop, Slap for #kids and #teens.

  2. I've been struggling with eczema on my hands for a few years. Showering always aggravates my hands, even with cool water (I guess maybe it's the shampoos and soaps?). I discovered the existence of water tight shower gloves. I've been using them for a few weeks. They've been a godsend, and I highly recommend trying them if you have similar problems with your hands. #eczema #skin #dermatology #health

  4. CW: Blood sucking tick under the microscope

Here’s a tick - caught in the act. Ticks are blood sucking arachnids. This tick has been excised along with the skin it was biting into. The skin biopsy is about 5mm diameter for scale. The tick is the bulbous structure projecting upward from the skin underneath. Look inside and you can see it’s gut.

Below it you can see ulceration and the cavity it’s mouth has created as it burrowed through the epidermis (the outer layer of skin).

There is flanking dermal necrosis and an intense inflammatory reaction (dark purple patches around the cavity composed of aggregates of inflammatory cells).
