  2. So the satire pamphlet came up with a different reading of this Latin message, and it suggests the reading of VICI MALUM as
"Vici Maximilianum" (see the image). And this means "I have conquered Maximilian". Take this Habsburg Europe, be warned! #earlymodern #skystorians

  3. At long last, another recipe post. It's about #gingerbread, corruption, and why if your diplomatic shtick is winning wars, losing one is dangerous.

Any resemblance to current events is all in your head.

  6. Probably not among the juiciest topics in #NeoLatin and #Jesuit studies, but in the unlikely event that you feel like learning more about the legal basis of the Jesuits’ congregationes procuratorum, I’ve got you covered: “The Formula of the Congregation of Procurators: Introduction, Latin Text, and English Translation.” In Political Agents and Cultural Mediators. 10. Question for #digitalhumanities , #earlymodern , #bookhistory , #latin and especially #neolatin people here: Do you know of #linkedopendata resources that are potentially relevant for Neolatinists? I'm preparing a talk on the topic and would like to provide an overview of interesting datasets beyond wikidata, factgrid, prism, lila and the linked data services of some libraries.

  11. 🗃️ 📚💙 #Tudors #WomenInHistory #earlymodern folks - @leahredmondchang.bsky.social is here! I wrote an essay about Leah's terrific YOUNG QUEENS: Three Renaissance Women and the Price of Power (the link's in the second post in thread). 1/2

  14. The King’s Health - a political song from the reign of Charles II.

It's sung to the tune of Farrinel's Ground, also known as La Follia. This ground, used as a base for divisions (variations) for both instruments and voices, was popular throughout the early modern period.

Written in the early 1680s, at the time of the Popish Plot, the song praises the King and the Duke of York (the future James II), encouraging everyone to drink to their health. It is virulently anti-Catholic and anti-Whig.

    Emily Atkinson: soprano
    Robin Jeffrey: lute
    Alison Kinder: bass viol
