So the satire pamphlet came up with a different reading of this Latin message, and it suggests the reading of VICI MALUM as
"Vici Maximilianum" (see the image). And this means "I have conquered Maximilian". Take this Habsburg Europe, be warned! #earlymodern #skystorians

The longer message was complex and interwoven into a story of prognostication in #earlymodern print.

A prayerbook rubric might say “say this before bed” or “stand before a crucifix.” Either way, it’s doing more than labeling the next prayer.
