Every day I write a little note to accompany a track from the album *Préquelle*, just to add a touch of humanity and give you some context (I’m currently at 7 out of 15; in French and English – I hope to make the Estonian later).
*Préquelle* is a compilation of recordings that were on my hard drive; I’m polishing up the sound a bit and working on the transitions to make it a coherent entity (I hope).

"Mona's Delight", collected as a tune and dance on the Isle of Man in the 1930s, derived from the tune English Country dance tune "Goddesses" that dates back to at least the beginning of the 17th century.
I learnt it many years ago, one afternoon in a Whitby pub.

Let me begin the time on #Fediverse with #music. In #Dinan, an unnamed musician brought old sounds to life - nakers, recorder, shepherd’s horn, ankle bells and even a desk bell. Her street workshop drew passersby into music, history and curiosity. She earns a living through her craft while keeping old sounds alive, giving them new listeners and, perhaps, new possibilities.
Does anyone know her and the string instrument she was playing?
As a follow-up, the concert band that I play with recorded "The Seven Stars" (called "The Moon and and Seven Stars" on the CD) a few years back.
It's coupled with an Irish slide called Scattery Island.

So, "The Seven Stars" is a mid-eighteenth century country dance tune. I've never tried to play on a tin whistle before, so I though I'd have a go (practice as I mentioned before!)

Alannah Thornburgh is an award-winning instrumentalist and composer from the wild west of Ireland with a focus on traditional Irish harp. Alannah’s music explores her family heritage, reimagining melodies from the Irish harping and American folk & jazz traditions. This cross-genre interaction and juxtaposition of old melodies with contemporary harmonies and technique is interwoven throughout her music, described as being ‘unforced, fluid and utterly at home in her own sound’ (The Irish Times). In February 2025, Alannah released her debut album ‘Shapeshifter’ - a collection of compositions inspired by fairy folklore & mythology in rural Ireland (“Sublime debut from Mayo composer” 9/10 - Hot Press). Pablo Santo is a DJ and selector who refuses to be boxed in. With roots in Brazil and a home in Dublin, his sound is a testament to his musical journey. Known for his ability to effortlessly move between genres, styles, and tempos, he’s a favorite in the Dublin scene and has shared stages with some of the biggest names in dance music, including Palms Trax, Avalon Emerson, and Gerd Janson. As one half of the Different Rhythm crew, he's dedicated to introducing audiences to new sounds, both on the dance floor and through his monthly show on Dublin Digital Radio.
Platinum Ray (real name Pauly Martin) is a Dublin-based DJ who plays house & disco, sometimes techno & electro, always funk orientated. He’s been deejaying since the mid-90s, when he started out on pirate radio as a teenager with his friend Tóirse. He's ranparties with friends over the years such as Bop Gun and Tiny Cosmos, as well as organising gigs for electronic labels such as Frontend Synthetics and Countersunk. Currently he is a resident on Dublin Digital Radio hosting the Heat Werk show with his brother Daragh and guests.
