With roots in the African Nova Scotia community and the #Caribbean, his teaching, research, and scholarship encompass Cuba, #Africa, the Caribbean, #BlackCanadian history, the global #BlackLiberation struggle, and reparations. A major area of his research is Cuba’s relationship with Africa.

It was just me and Celestine again this week, so caring for her took up a lot of my attention, but I was able to boost some podcast episodes on the fediverse and share some little highlights from my life.
Today we visited the Beaty Centre for Marine Biodiversity at Dalhousie University for the first time. It’s a modest space but Celestine loved seeing the aquariums, whale skeleton, and other displays. Seeing hermit crabs swapping shells was a highlight. It was fun walking around campus and showing her where I lived during my first year studying there.

I was given Sushi Go! years ago but today I finally sat down to play with Celestine. The cute cards and simple mechanics are big plusses. She bounced off the scoring and strategy, but I think it will eventually be a game we return to often.

🇫🇷 Encore quelques vues de la randonnée d'hier. Le point d'orgue était sans conteste le point de vue du Kasselslay (Kasselslee) qui offre une vue sur la vallée de l'Our. Au sommet de cet éperon rocheux (par lequel je suis arrivé, il y a un banc et derrière ce banc, à peine visible une petite chapelle mariale dédiée à La Vierge du Rocher. Cette partie était assez "scherp" car le sentier très étroit et avec la neige... Une fois dans la vallée, le sentier longe l'Our de près ou d'un peu plus loin. Depuis l'arrêt de Bus à Dasbourg-Pont, on peut apercevoir le château de Dasburg. J'avais visité le village, il y a longtemps déjà...
L'Our est une rivière belgo-germano-luxembourgeoise de 78 kilomètres qui prend sa source dans les Hautes Fagnes et forme grosso-modo la frontière entre la Belgique et l'Allemagne jusqu'à Ouren (point de rencontre des trois pays) où elle devient la frontière entre le Grand-Duché et l'Allemagne quasi sur toute sa longueur jusqu'à Wallendorf où elle se jette dans la Sûre qui elle-même formera la frontière entre les deux pays et terminera sa course dans la Moselle à Wasserbillig (Waasserbëlleg). C'est une région que j'apprécie particulièrement car très calme et isolée et dotée d'un large réseau de balades pédestres.

At the top there is a bench and behind it, a small Marial Chapel dedicated to Our Lady of the Rock. The path to the valley was the most difficult to hike as the way is very narrow and with the snow, the risk of slipping is great. Once in the valley, the path goes along the river. In Dasbourg-Pont, while waiting for the Bus, I could make a photo of the Castle of Dasburg on the German side. I visited a long time ago the small village...
A word over the river "Our", it's a Belgian-German-Luxembourgish one with a length of 78 km. It mainly forms the border between Belgium and Germany until Ouren (3 Countries point) and then the border between Germany and G.D. of Luxembourg until it joins the Sauer in Wallendorf and beyond to Wasserbillig (Waasserbëlleg). I do like the region as it is very calm and a bit isolated and with lots of great hiking paths!

Es war eine Freude ihn spielen zu sehen
2.11.1985: ich im Westfalenstadion, Halbzeitstand 1:1, zweite Halbzeit, ich direkt hinter dem Dortmunder Tor und Frank Mill immer davor. 55. und 72. Minute macht er ihn rein, Jürgen Wegmann (ebenfalls Ex-RWE) schafft nur noch den Anschluss. Auswärtssieg! Und ich war so dicht dran, wie noch nie zuvor. Mill traf immer gegen den BVB. Auch am 8.9.1984 hatte er zwei reingemacht. Also kaufte ihn der BVB 1986 endlich weg. Wie vor und nach ihm viele Andere (Heiko Herrlich, Marco Reus, Mo Dahoud etc. etc.). Ein anderes Spiel setzte ihn lebenslänglich in meine Erinnerung.
Am 10.3.1984 dichtes Schneetreiben am Bökelberg. Der Tabellenzweite VFB Stuttgart kam zum Gastspiel beim Tabellenfünften. Damals war die Bundesliga noch spannend. Die ersten 5 waren nur drei Punkte auseinander. Seit ca. 10 Jahren ist um diese Jahreszeit meistens schon alles entschieden. Stuttgart war Favorit, und wurde später auch (punktgleich u.a. mit meiner Borussia, nur durch das Torverhältnis) Meister. Aber nicht an diesem verschneiten Nachmittag am Bökelberg.
In der 53. Minute erzielte Libero Hans-Günter Bruns, Ende der Nullerjahre erfolgreicher Trainer von RW Oberhausen, die Führung. Danach drängte der VFB. Doch fast jeder Befreiungsschlag aus der Abwehr erreichte den an der Mittellinie lauernden beweglichen Frank Mill. Gefühlt ein halbes Dutzend mal rannte er allein mit dem Ball auf Helmut Roleder zu. Und immer hielt der buchstäblich Einäugige. Keiner wusste, wie. Ich stand an der Gegengraden, am Bökelberg gab es an drei der vier Stadionseiten Stehplätze. Ein Fanparadies. Und Roleder brachte Mill und mich dem Wahnsinn nahe.
Bis zur 76. Minute. Die Fussballsonne ging in dichtestem Schneetreiben auf. Der Matsch auf dem Heimweg zum Bahnhof, die durchnässte Kleidung – das war alles egal. Wir 25.000 hatten Franky zu diesem Tor getrieben. Er konnte nicht mehr anders.
Seine Gedanken- und Handlungsschnelligkeit verbunden mit gut ausgebildeter Technik verschaffte ihm entscheidende Vorsprünge gegen gegnerische Abwehrreihen. Als idealer Konterspieler hatte er oft 3-10 Meter. Obwohl nur 1,78 m gross, gelangen ihm nicht wenige Kopfballtore, begünstigt durch seine Wendigkeit. Lionel Messi, geb. 1987, könnte ihn schon gesehen haben … 😉
Am Saisonende 84/85 standen für ihn 19 Tore in 32 Spielen. Es war die erfolgreichste Saison von Jupp Heynckes als Borussia-Trainer. Punktgleich (48-20) mit Meister Stuttgart, aber leider rund 20 Tore zurück – durch die vielen Gegentore.
Wir werden sie immer in Ehren halten. Es war eine gute Fussballzeit. Frank Mill war ein Jahr jünger als ich. Unsere Herzinfarkte hatten wir nahezu gleichzeitig. Ich hatte Glück. Er nicht. Ich werde eines Tages vergessen. Er nicht.

2.11.1985: ich im Westfalenstadion, Halbzeitstand 1:1, zweite Halbzeit, ich direkt hinter dem Dortmunder Tor und Frank Mill immer davor. 55. und 72. Minute macht er ihn rein, Jürgen Wegmann (ebenfalls Ex-RWE) schafft nur noch den Anschluss. Auswärtssieg! Und ich war so dicht dran, wie noch nie zuvor. Mill traf immer gegen den BVB. Auch am 8.9.1984 hatte er zwei reingemacht. Also kaufte ihn der BVB 1986 endlich weg. Wie vor und nach ihm viele Andere (Heiko Herrlich, Marco Reus, Mo Dahoud etc. etc.). Ein anderes Spiel setzte ihn lebenslänglich in meine Erinnerung.

La revue fut notamment rédigée par Guy Debord, Mohamed Dahou, Giuseppe Pinot-Gallizio, Maurice Wyckaert, Constant, Asger Jorn, Helmut Sturm, Attila Kotanyi, Jørgen Nash, Uwe Lausen, Raoul Vaneigem, Michèle Bernstein, Jeppesen Victor Martin, Jan Stijbosch, Alexander Trocchi, Théo Frey, Mustapha Khayati, Donald Nicholson-Smith, René Riesel, René Viénet, etc. 12 numéros furent publiés entre 1958 et 1969. In a positive outlook for 2024, #universities across #Canada are introducing more #PlantBased or #vegan food options. Many of the universities have stated this is due to ongoing demand from students for more variety - and a larger push for more sustainable practices.
A number of universities are taking the lead, notably:
-#WesternUniversity. The university set a goal of having a 40 per cent plant-based menu at all dining halls by the new year, but it hit the target — and at some points even surpassed it — this year. A fully vegan outlet will open in 2024, and the school wants to reach a 50 per cent target in 2025.
-#TheUniversityOfBritishColumbia. 55 per cent of the food in dining halls is plant-based, and the Vancouver school hopes to reach a goal of 80 per cent by 2025.
-#ConcordiaUniversity in Montreal plans to reduce its purchase of meat, dairy and eggs by 30 per cent.
-#DalhousieUniversity in Halifax aims to offer a menu with at least 50 per cent plant-based food options by 2030.
-#UniversityOfToronto. Well that was an excellent performance from #BVB against a Köln team who didn't play badly at all even though the 6-1 scoreline sad otherwise and Dortmund looked worth it.
Reus and Haller both doubling up, and playing very in the process, I'd say that was as sharp as Haller has looked since his come back from cancer.
Malen, Wolf and Dahoud put in really good performances as well, and then Guerreiro in midfield is turning into a bit of a revelation #BVBKOE #Bundesliga

Hi, all. I'm a writer and educator, currently working as a Postdoctoral Fellow of Embedded EthiCS in the Department of Philosophy at Harvard University.
In my day job, I’m currently writing about moral responsibility, epistemic injustice, and the ethics of computing and artificial intelligence. I'm also interested in the philosophy of education, feminist philosophy, queer theory, and scholarship of teaching and learning. I also help develop and teach ethics modules that are embedded into computer science courses at Harvard, and in the spring I’ll be teaching an ethics of computing course for Harvard College. Before this, I worked with Ethically Aligned AI, Inc. and Athabasca University to create an AI ethics micro-credential certificate; held a Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS; and studied at Waterloo, York, Toronto, Sheffield, and (briefly) The Graduate Center, CUNY.
