A couple more photos from the displays on ocean biodiversity at the aquarium of the California Academy of Sciences. The Australian lungfish in the second picture is Methuselah, who, at around 96 years old (as of 2026), is confirmed to be the oldest living fish in human care.

Was bleibt, sind die riesigen Stahlstützen des Aquariums, die in der Hotellobby bleiben sollen, und die Frage: Kann ein neues #Aquarium der Größe halten?
Die Initiatoren eines geplanten Hotels mit Aquarium mit dem Namen „Ocean Berlin“ in Berlin-Lichtenberg sind davon überzeugt. Für Anfang 2026 ist die Eröffnung des Aquariums geplant, wie eine Sprecherin des israelischen Unternehmens Coral World auf Anfrage der Deutschen Presse-Agentur mitteilte.
Es seien mehrere Becken mit insgesamt etwa zehn Millionen Liter Wasser geplant. Eine Auswahl von 3000 Fischen sei bereits getroffen worden. Das größte Becken soll den Angaben zufolge 7,5 Millionen Liter fassen - mehr als siebenmal so viel wie der Aquadom.

Warum ist das Berliner #Aquarium #Aquadom nun kaputt gegangen? Irgendwo habe ich hier das Gerücht mit den Temperaturspannungen gelesen. Also mal die Größenordnung überschlagen. Erstmal hydrostatischer Druck. Bei 16m Höhe, 11m Durchmesser und 22cm Wandstärke (stimmt das?) ergeben sich unten 1,5bar Wasserdruck. Mein Fahrradreifen ist bei 2bar noch ziemlich flau. Die Umfangsspannung beträgt 3.7MPa. Das Material erträgt laut Wikipedia so 70MPa. Dadurch geht es also nicht kaputt. (Weiter in Teil 2)

Folgende Theorie für die Ursache kommt von der Berufsschule meines Sohnes:Es war zu kalt in der Aqua Hotel Lobby.
Das Wasser muss auf ca 26° (o.ä.?) sein und wenn die Umgebungsluft zu kalt ist stresst es das Material. Es war definitiv eine kalte Nacht. Hatte das Hotel die Heizung eventuell auf low gehabt?
