The #US announced $100 million in humanitarian aid to Cuba, some of which is now being distributed to vulnerable families through the CatholicChurch.
So we went to #Bejucal, one of the towns where the aid first arrived.
In a town of 22,000 people, the Church delivered 380 boxes of aid. Those who received it expressed their gratitude. But there is a stark contradiction at the heart of the US aid effort: Washington is offering relief from a crisis its own policies have brought about.

In recent days, #Cuban civil society organizations have denounced the devastating impact of the #US government’s economic war on the Cuban people.
Dr. Dayana Couto Núñez, president of the Cuban Society of #Gynecology and #Obstetrics, says shortages of medicines, medical supplies, technology and fuel are affecting surgeries, ultrasounds, diagnostic tests and maternal care.
According to Couto, the situation is making it harder to detect congenital malformations early and to care for premature and low-birth-weight babies, who often require specialized medication and high-tech equipment.
“Neither our women nor our children are to blame,” she said. “They need #medical care, #medicines and quality resources.”

Duration - 2:02#ImaniBashir is a Black American activist from Washington D.C. She visited to #Cuba following a radical political tradition, one that includes Malcolm X, Assata Shakur, and Kwame Ture, figures who understood the #CubanRevolution as part of a broader struggle for liberation.
For Bashir, visiting Cuba wasn't just political, it was personal. Seeing #AfroCuban people, she says, was seeing people who look like her, who share her history, who have maintained their culture and dignity under decades of sanctions.
Her argument on the #blockade is straightforward: Cuba has never been a threat to the US. It has never put #US safety, its food supply, or resources at stake. "It has only been the other way around," she says.
