Cuba Street: A Model of Community Hygiene in Old Havana’s Heart
https://world-outlook.com/2026/05/08/cuba-street-a-model-of-community-hygiene-in-old-havanas-heart/from #WorldOutlook
May 8, 2026The article below was published on October 10, 2025, ...by a website of #Havana’s city government. It describes a concerted effort by local residents, the city administration, and private businesses to end the problem of trash accumulation in that part of #Cuba’s capital city.
Since then, this problem has become more acute and widespread in Havana as a consequence of the #US #oil #blockade, which, since January 3, has stopped virtually all #petroleum shipments from reaching Cuba. The resulting fuel shortage has... made it difficult to almost impossible for garbage trucks to operate and regularly collect trash.
... this article describes an example of the initiatives ordinary Cubans take to improve their daily lives in the middle of extreme adversities caused by Washington’s decades-old economic war.

Gaza and the #WestBank: Dispatches from Catastrophe (II)
https://world-outlook.com/2026/05/01/gaza-and-the-west-bank-dispatches-from-catastrophe-ii/[2 of 2 parts of a dispatch from #JewishCurrents, with an intro by #WorldOutlook]
May 1, 2026“The resulting testimonies are difficult to read,” says the introduction to these stories. “They show the effects of years of industrialized, live-broadcast massacres and colonization, particularly in #Gaza, where more than 10% of the population is estimated to have been killed or injured in the last two years. The Gaza dispatches are a portal to a place where dystopian science fiction — the exporting of killing to artificial intelligence and robots, the shooting of children lining up for food aid, the crushing of people under air-dropped food parcels — has become reality.”

https://world-outlook.com/2026/04/30/gaza-and-the-west-bank-dispatches-from-catastrophe-i/[1 of 2 parts of a dispatch from #JewishCurrents, with an intro by #WorldOutlook]
April 30, 2026In Nov.-Dec.2025, Jewish Currents reached out to some two dozen Palestinians from #Gaza and the #WestBank — all of whom the magazine had previously interviewed after October 7 — to ask them how their lives had changed since they last shared their stories.
The resulting testimonies are difficult to read. They show the effects of years of industrialized, live-broadcast massacres and colonization, particularly in Gaza, where more than 10% of the population is estimated to have been killed or injured in the last two years.
“What all the voices share is disillusionment: with the political parties #Hamas and #Fatah; with supposed allies like #Arab countries; with international systems such as the #UN; and with notions of international law and justice writ large..."

Iran Stymies U.S.-Israeli #War
US Out of #Mideast! Israel Out of #Lebanon!
https://world-outlook.com/2026/04/28/iran-stymies-u-s-israeli-war/from #WorldOutlook
April 28, 2026It’s been two months since the allied #US and Israeli militaries launched their war against Iran. A war of plunder, aimed at regaining access to Iran’s resources — primarily oil and natural gas — and confronting #China’s growing economic influence in the region and the world. Despite the mass destruction, and degrading of its military capabilities, #Iran has been able to inflict major damage on US #military assets and on #oil and other facilities in the Gulf and nearby countries allied with Washington. Iran has so far stymied the #US - #Israel war, providing a bit of much needed breathing space to revolutionary #Cuba.

Strategies & Tactics for #SocialChange
Some Lessons from the Movement in the US Against the #Vietnam War
https://world-outlook.com/2026/04/27/strategies-tactics-for-social-change/from #WorldOutlook
April 27, 2026In the past year, millions in the US have protested Washington’s attacks on democratic rights, #ICE terror, and imperialist war. Among them are many young people, alongside others who have never before taken to the streets.
These activists are testing strategies and tactics and debating how to push back #Trump’s march toward one-man rule. Many of the questions they face have been posed before, perhaps most notably during the anti- #VietnamWar movement in the #US in the 1960s and early ’70s.
As the #war escalated and opposition broadened, discussion flourished over how to build the movement. Debates often centered on the effectiveness of “#DirectAction,” or #CivilDisobedience, vs. mass marches and rallies, and on the demands promoted in these actions.

Colorado #Slaughterhouse Workers Ratify New Contract
https://world-outlook.com/2026/04/18/colorado-meatpackers-ratify-new-contract/from #WorldOutlook
April 17, 2026On April 12, 2026, members of United Food and Commercial #Workers (#UFCW) Local 7 ratified a new agreement with the JBS Swift beef processing plant in Greeley, #Colorado. A #union press release announcing the vote — with 93% in favor — said the contract contained "all gains, countless improvements, and not a single concession."
"This ... is a testament to the incredible resolve of our members," said Local 7 president Kim Cordova. "These workers stood together on the picket line for three weeks, through extreme weather, because they knew their worth and refused to be disrespected."

#Colorado #Meatpackers End #Strike, Will Return to Work
https://world-outlook.com/2026/04/06/colorado-meatpackers-end-strike-will-return-to-work/from #WorldOutlook
April 6, 2026“The company walked away,” Cordova told the crowd of more than 800 #workers from the day shift picket lines. “They believed that you would not walk out on strike.”
But of the 3,800 workers in the plant represented by the #union, 94% did walk on March 16, marking the first major packinghouse strike in 40 years.[1]
The workers’ action had an impact, according to the union. About 60% of the cattle earmarked for JBS went to competitors as the company tried to operate with the remaining hourly workforce and supervisors.
“The problem is the way we are being treated,” Hector Vargas told World-Outlook before the April 3 union meeting at the parking lot. “To keep up with work means taking a beating. And you cannot go to the bathroom. They make you wait a long time — if they let you go.”

Cuban Gov’t: ‘Bay of Pigs Is Today and Forever!’
[statement]
https://world-outlook.com/2026/04/17/cuban-govt-bay-of-pigs-is-today-and-forever/from #WorldOutlook
April 17, 2026#Cuba is living under the constant siege of the US government, whose escalating threats have intensified in recent months. In addition to the brutal #energy blockade, which exacerbates the genocidal policy of #embargo of the last six decades, there are the declarations by representatives of the #US government elite regarding intentions of #military aggression.
The material and human cost of this blockade is a disgrace borne by the government of the greatest empire of all time. It is an illegal and inhumane act, a violation of international law, condemned every year by almost all member states of the # UnitedNations and, as recent polls have confirmed, rejected by the majority of the people of the land of Lincoln.

‘What I Saw in Cuba Was Resilience’
A Cuban American’s Story from the #NuestraAméricaConvoy
https://world-outlook.com/2026/04/02/what-i-saw-in-cuba-was-resilience/from #WorldOutlook
April 2, 2026“I traveled to #Cuba this month,” writes Gerardo Delgado. “As a #CubanAmerican, that sentence carries the weight of longing born of an estrangement from my roots. For much of my life, Cuba existed as a distant story, a place I knew only through descriptions from my father.
“I was there as part of an international solidarity convoy; over 500 representatives from more than 30 countries, united by a simple conviction: no country has the right to strangle another simply because it chose a different path. I cannot stand by while the island of my family’s heritage is suffocated.”
Delgado is an educator in Miami, Florida, working with the Miami Coalition to End the #US Blockade of Cuba. He recently returned from Cuba, where he went with #CODEPINK’s delegation to the island as part of the #NuestraAméricaConvoy.

‘Cuba Under Siege: Strategies for United Response’
US-Cuba Normalization Conference Maps Out Action Plan

March 21, 2026NEW YORK CITY — About 225 delegates representing organizations across the US and Canada attended the conference “Cuba Under Siege: Strategies for Resistance and a United Response.” In welcoming delegates to the meeting, Ike Nahem of the NY-NJ Cuba Sí Coalition, said: “The conference is taking place at an ominous time. A time of imperialist war in the Mideast and intervention in our hemisphere, marked by the January 3 US attack on Venezuela and the kidnapping of the country’s president Nicolás Maduro and his wife Celia Flores, and the siege of #Cuba under the #US blockade of #petroleum to the country.” Nahem called on delegates to focus on actions that represent a united response to this qualitative turn of events in the world situation.

‘The ‘Problem with Cuba’? Its Example of Solidarity and Internationalism’
Speech by Federation of Cuban Women Leader Osmayda Hernández Beleño
https://world-outlook.com/2026/03/17/the-problem-with-cuba-its-example-of-solidarity-and-internationalism/from #WorldOutlook
March 17, 2026[...] The “problem with #Cuba” is that it spread its example of #solidarity and #internationalism within a destructive #capitalism that expresses the opposite.
The “problem with Cuba” is that it has been and is an example of self-determination and resistance against the criminal #blockade. It is the example of having become involved in the struggle to end the #SouthAfrican #apartheid regime. It is the example it provided when it received the victims of the #Chernobyl disaster. It is the exemplary commitment of the #medical and health missions that Cuba sends to dozens of countries, and that has deepened as a policy in the middle of the pandemic, when no other country dared to do so.

But if, in the framework of the war to damage the #Cuban #electric system, you buy the company that supplies spare parts to the largest source of electrical energy generation in #Cuba — the Antonio Guiteras thermo-electric plant in Matanzas — you are moving to another level.
That was done by the #Biden administration, which left all of #Trump’s measures in place and, in addition, provided what it believed to be the checkmate: as part of an operation between the government, the CIA, and finance capital, #GeneralElectric bought the French firm that built the Guiteras and was therefore committed to guaranteeing the supply of spare parts and maintenance. A Dantesque maneuver, devised by cynical people of the worst moral character.

‘#Cuba Is the Moral and Political Compass of the World’ (I) (of 3)
Interview with Cuban Leader Ernesto Limia Díazfrom #WorldOutlook
Nov 7, 2025Limia acknowledged that this economic crisis is caused, to a large degree, by an intensifying #US economic war aimed at asphyxiating and overthrowing the #CubanRevolution. However, he focused his essay on “the problems that, in my humble opinion, are within our means to solve as soon as possible.”
Among other important points, he noted that “we cannot ignore that formalizing a private economy presents challenges to the Cuban model. One thing we must be clear about: under #socialism the blind laws of the market cannot govern...the ‘blind’ laws of those seers who control the market. Under socialism the market cannot dictate the trajectory, it must establish a harmonious relationship with the interests of society. Achieving this requires planning, audacity, control, and solidarity education.”

Majority-Black Town in Ohio Launches Armed Watch after Neo-#Nazi, #Klan Provocations
from #WorldOutlook
February 28, 2025
"On February 7, about a dozen masked men, some of them carrying AR-15 semi-automatic rifles, drove a U-Haul truck to a freeway overpass at Lincoln Heights’ edge. The men, dressed in black, shouted racist slurs and waived black flags with red swastikas on them. Enraged Lincoln Heights residents soon approached to counter protest. Local police who converged on the scene from the nearby town of #Evandale, across the highway, appeared cordial toward some of the white supremacists. As the crowd of Lincoln Heights residents swelled, the ultra rightists got back on their truck and drove off. Counter protesters burned the Nazi flags left behind."#AfricanAmerican #LincolnHeights
