If I choose the #amdgpu driver, the system crashes at boot.
If I choose the #radeon driver, the system starts and runs almost normally (a few glitches may appear before displaying an image) as long as I don't play a video (then it crashes more or less severely).

I just wrote a self-hosted #dyndns server using #knotdns, #bottle for the update server (https PUT), and a #python client to detect IP changes. It's running on #AlpineLinux, the code is minimal and it only uses packages that are in the Alpine repos. Full #IPv4 and #IPv6 support, you can use either or both.
Why? It's a cool project, and IMHO every dyndns clients and services I tried were bad, insecure, or both.

Gave up on Apple Containers for the time being. Just too unpredictable and unmanageable networking.
Was mainly using it to run a local Pihole container to filter out ads. Was recommended to use Podman as a drop-in replacement because I can't use Docker Desktop. But Podman uses a VM to host the containers and that VM does already bind on Port 53 for its container DNS resolution. So ended up using a small VM with UTM virtualisation app that runs the Pihole container in an Alpine Linux ....
These are the hoops I jump through to avoid ads ....

Question for the #linux peeps around here: how hard would it be for someone to get a distro running with a presentable desktop running #wayfire?
Raspberry Pi had a x86 version, but that was back on the Debian 11 era...
It would be nice to have something like #alpinelinux with Wayfire on top, should make for a fairly small and lightweight option for older/simpler machines, no?

made a small amount of progress ✨
managed to hack an existing image for the #Pine64 #SoQuartz blade for running #AlpineLinux and it works!
i felt that the #RK3566 chip was running a little hot so i decided to add a little heartsink as well
did a little test to see if the NVMe SATA adapter works by hooking up two spare harddrives i had, and they showed up on lsblk
now i just need to design the mounts for the blade and harddrives ✨

Current status: trying #bun (#javascript runtime) because it has HTMLRewriter 😂
https://bun.sh/docs/api/html-rewriterUnfortunately they don't have *musl* build so it's quite a hassle to get it work on #alpinelinux and #distroless 🙁

Curious if others are experiencing #instability with #AMD processors or #GPU on #Linux or if this is #AlpineLinux specific. Opened an additional ticket that is focused on the AMD specific issue, since the last one appears it may have been generalized to the linux kernel overall. I do not see the same behavior on an #Intel #N100. https://gitlab.alpinelinux.org/alpine/aports/-/issues/16920 #bsod

#dwm and #emptty now benchmarked on https://everybytecounts.org There are so many options for a #WindowManagers with #DisplayManager on #AlpineLinux with better performance than on bare #NixOS #Linux without a #WindowManager, at a fraction of the disk usage. Also, the next release of Alpine, in November, will have more #DesktopEnvironment / window manager options. Some of which are currently on the edge branch, or had become out of date and will have new versions.

The base #postmarketOS console has been #benchmarked on https://everybytecounts.org. Impressive 61MB memory usage. Curious what the extra 111MB of disk usage is over #AlpineLinux, and why the system load is so much higher than stock Alpine. Unfortunate that the boot time is at 57 seconds (same as #Windows11). Really wish #pmbootstrap init offered an option to disable the boot logo and showed the boot log to help diagnose this.

#SingleBoardComputer enthusiasts experienced with booting #Radxa #RadxaZero2Pro with #Amlogic #A311D #SoC? dd the Radxa Debian #linux img to an SDCard, which does boot. The same img file does not appear to boot when dd to USB. Something special need to be done to boot from USB or SDCard? #AlpineLinux appears to have amlogic a311d2 support from https://pkgs.alpinelinux.org/contents?file=*amlogic*a311d*.dtb. It's unclear how to get the standard or uboot Alpine tar.gz files to boot. Is this something with #uboot on #armv8/#aarch64?

Todays release of #PopOS Alpha with #CosmicDesktop has been benchmarked on https://everybytecounts.org. A gitlab issue is open for #AlpineLinux (https://gitlab.alpinelinux.org/alpine/aports/-/issues/16344). Hopefully this #MemorySafe #DesktopEnvironment might get packaged on a performant #Linux distribution. Maybe #RedoxOS, based on #Rustlang, will also get Cosmic? :)
