Seems *really* wants people to download (I'm not a fan).

They're offering 5000 "Discord Orbs" (which is prob the most so far since the beginning of Quests) for people who downloads and uses it for 15 min.

Little did they know I used a tempoary throwaway email and a VM with github.com/utmapp, then deleted everything. 🤣

    Yeah, thanks—but no thanks.

I don't even use have a Discord client installed! is awesome!

  2. Gave up on Apple Containers for the time being. Just too unpredictable and unmanageable networking.

Was mainly using it to run a local Pihole container to filter out ads. Was recommended to use Podman as a drop-in replacement because I can't use Docker Desktop. But Podman uses a VM to host the containers and that VM does already bind on Port 53 for its container DNS resolution. So ended up using a small VM with UTM virtualisation app that runs the Pihole container in an Alpine Linux ....

These are the hoops I jump through to avoid ads ....

  3. @jan I actually installed a virtualised #Win7 using #UTMapp on a friend‘s Mac mini M2 so his wife can continue using an expensive music score editing programme 😊

  4. @blogoklahoma #UTMapp is doing a good job w/ less of the VBox overhead.

  5. Trying out #swiftdata, and #macOSSonoma running in #utmapp virtualization is surprisingly usable even on a 16 GB M1. Just the slightest of lags, which for my purposes is much better than risking my actual account/data/computer.

  6. @chrisdemarco @deepskies I entirely agree — it is a bit like choosing between plague and cholera, but if one is bent on keeping the machine alive… And there’s still Linux to turn to, too.

Try running Win11 on a hardware that old and see what you happens — if anything. As an aside: I installed Win7 x64 on a friend’s brand new Mac mini M2 using #UTMapp and it takes less than 30 secs to boot to the login screen.

  7. @deanfx Been using forever, but on , is the only one that I would recommend.

  8. Can?'t believe that I have never tried before today and a platform for .

Works like a charm and it is better then or ever were for me.

fast and fluid its baremetal experience.

    Love it!

  9. @radiologe Depending on your host hardware and the guest OS, you might give #UTMapp a try. On #Apple #Silicon, it‘s a great way to run #Windows/#Linux/#other guest systems. No subscription crap, just a one-off contribution when bought via AppStore, free when downloading from their website.

  10. @[email protected] @[email protected] Wow! That‘d be great! Been googling high and low, but apparently not many folks are playing around with #UTMapp, #quemu and #FreeBSD… 🫤😉

  11. @antranigv Thanks a mill! Works wonderfully!
Would you know by any chance how to increase the display resolution when running #FreeBSD in #utmapp? It‘s only 800x600…
