#NeoFlux is up and running! Installed through #Gentoo portage localrepo.
Not as featureful as #Fluxbox yet, but includes one or two things I wish Fluxbox had. First, the active tab is always 50% of the title bar of the grouped window. The other tabs get equal space of the other 50%. Makes it easier to see the full title of the active tab.
Second is multiple slits. There are four (one for each edge), and and dockapps can be sent to any of them.

I've never used tiling window managers like i3 (https://i3wm.org/) or awesome (https://awesomewm.org/) on my workstations. Perhaps I'm wrong, and I should definitely give them a try and always use them in the future. But for several years now, I've been using a different compromise: instead of tiling the entire screen, I tile the space only in the terminal using tmux and this config (https://github.com/gpakosz/.tmux).

Historically, I’ve been a big fan of tiled window managers. I used ion and ion2 for ages, I mostly work in terminal with `tmux` which feels pretty similar.
That said, I tried sway and didn’t feel like it wasn’t a necessity. Windows and GNOME shell both support window snapping with Super+arrows, and that’s basically all I need. Obviously, you can like sway or tiled window managers still, this is just the half-formed opinion of one middle-aged nerd.

Until #Gentoo portage catches up with the packages needed for #StumpWM to run without crashing, I think I'll give #QTile a go. Can't do the keyboard shortcut things I want, but neither can most other WM or DEs.
Should be very helpful with the new 3440x1440 monitor arriving tomorrow. Large fonts AND two windows next to each other. Sounds great; I can't wait to experience it. (Upgrading from 1920x1080.)

Is there some way to snap windows to a grid in Gnome? I don't want a tiling window manager or custom snap zones (like gSnap). I want just maybe 20x20 static grid to snap window position and size into.

Recently switched from #dwm to #fvwm3 mostly out of just wanting to tinker/change the look/feel of my desktop. Not 100% sure I'm gonna stick with it and open to other options. What cool #WindowManagers are #x11 #linux folks using these days?

Currently trying out a bunch of distros in a vm as I am looking for somthing fresh. I currently use linux mint with xmonad as the wm. Looking for window manager recs (tiling) and distro recs.
Hoping for a distro that is light weight but needs minimal setup (not doing arch from scratch, been there but cbf atm)
My current use case is (in order of priority): programming, web browsing, gaming.
I use a nvidia 🤮 rtx 2070 super and ryzen 3700x and haven't had a good experience with wayland but willing to give it another go -

I had been a long-time user of Linux for my desktop, but at some point I was gaming so much that it was just easier to spend most of the day booted into Windows. Yes, I'd looked at Steam on Linux, but at the time it just wasn't good enough. Let's put that aside for now.
Does anyone know of a window manager that:
1) Allows for programmatic/configuration definition of all the apps/windows to open at startup, WHILST
2) respecting `-geometry ...` arguments so as to *precisely* place them on the correct virtual desktop, and in the desited position+size. I am **not** interested in tiling WMs.
3) Has virtual desktops.
4) Can have a *different* view on each of multiple monitors. What I mostly mean here is I do *not* want to use something like Xinerama to join them together such that I can only change the joined view of them to the same virtual desktop. Also, I don't want fullscreen movies/youtube to span them.1/?
