I'm very grateful (and privileged) to be able to enjoy good espresso at home. A Ugandan light roast today, fruity almost floral works best as a pour over but I love the espresso.

Working with cherry is so nice and smells so good¹ even if you burn it a little. The milling went well and I was really glad that even without any clamps there's no daylight between the boards and the stop-block on the mitre gauge makes it easy to get a consistent length.
Anyone got any opinions on the order and orientation of the board before the glue-up tomorrow?
¹ I have dust collection on always during all cuts and wear a respirator for rips and sanding.

I'm using the pattern from this MDN example to provide visual feedback for HTML form validation with just CSS. This works just fine in Gecko (Firefox / Zen) and Codepen.io but does not work the same in Blink (Vivaldi / Chromium).
I have no idea what I'm doing so would love any help, here's the code snippet, which also show the pico.css include.
Edit: fixed typo and wanted to add that I'm getting very close to unleashing my total nonsense acoustic-coding Go project. I'm excited to share my fumblings and stumblings to make something just for giggles! I hope I can nerd-snipe some experts in to giving me some guidance on what I should do differently. Basically, I'll be asking for more help soon, so thanks in advance!

Wow Keychron sharing all the industrial design files for 83 of their products is very cool. They're releasing it as a source-available non-commercial license but explicitly encourages non-commercial community modding and accessory development. This is also very encouraging from a right to repair perspective!

Here are four of the ten looping Claude user quotes on anthropic.com homepage... Mind you, these are not dynamic, they chose these explicitly. Are they trying to represent user sentiment accurately or are they reading these very differently than I am?
I went there after watching this talk: "Nicholas Carlini - Black-hat LLMs", from one of their engineers. There's definitely good work by talented and conscientious people that's going on there.
I'm rewriting this post because I'm cynical of corporate motives but I also don't think that interpreting everything cynically is helpful. Even after the VC funding runs out (hopefully before we destroy the planet and society), these tools won't disappear especially for malicious actors. So if they're also building tooling to mitigate harm / defend against threat actors, do I dare to hope they're reading the quotes the same way I am? Or is it more of:
I feel like I'm creating more dependency than knowledge.

A not so #SilentSunday where I just recorded a quick live stream walking through my film processing workflow in Darktable and the resulting photo (I'll likely reprocess).
I want to make a more structured video down the line but wanted a quick practice today and NOTHING worked. I couldn't find my scans so I rescanned the strips which is way more painful and then no fruitful combination of my camera/audio/desktop/laptop/obs combo would work but at this point I was too stubborn to give up. #TLRTuesday is back to a couple winters ago when my friend @aaronberjohn and I went around town on a dreary frigid day to make some portraits. I recently re-edited the photos now that I can process negatives a bit better and trying to follow @bosak's advice of finding the image in the shot, instead of just muted grays (thanks!), still learning and a ways to go.

#TLRTuesday has been all Black&White Mamiya today, here's a touch of color from the Rolleiflex with a lens made way before color photography was available.
Edit: as @sree pointed out color photography is older than 1935. I meant to say before it was available for this lens but that may not be true either, the first Kodachrome is a contemporary. What is true is that this lens was definitely not designed for color photography as a primary format. The more you know 🌈

Modern cell phone camera sensors are just remarkable. The photogrammetry that phones do after capture is incredible, but also extremely punched up. I am getting more and more annoyed with each generation of crispy fried processing that is happening by default.
Compare the scene below that I captured after work today. RAW edited with #Saulala is what it looked and felt like versus the cell phone processed JPEG.

I really liked this little door/patio area with all the geometric shapes but with some organic greenery reflected in the glass. I couldn't figure out a good framing to highlight that juxtaposition; didn't want to lurk too long and freakout the residents.

Revisiting my not-so-successful roll of infrared for #MonochromeMonday.
Slowly editing photos over time feels like a "failed to keep up with backlog" for me, but I'm trying to turn that into "stretching the good experience longer while learning over time", it's a difficult mental jujitsu.

That's no lo-fi filter and brushes creating an effect for scratches and sprocket hole marks, that's just a really scratched and dirty negative and terrible exposure. I mean, it's all intentional art!

Infrared film is quite wild (even though it didn't turn out right) it looks magical. At first glance this looks like a winter scene but there was no snow. The trees are green not white, the water is light to deep turquoise not black but somehow the rocks come out about what they look like.
It's been a good idea to visit this roll after a bit and see the images without the initial disappointment of mistakes-made compounded by non-ideal weather. I'll have a few more to post later.📷 #BessaR2 + #7Artisan35mmf2

My mate @GeeTee and some other cool #SystemCrafters cats have built an internet radio station, Asteroid Radio: music for hackers, built by hackers.
Asteroid Radio is a community-driven internet radio station born from the SystemCrafters community. We celebrate the intersection of music, technology, and hacker culture—broadcasting for those who appreciate both great code and great music.
It's quite good and they're actively developing it, give it a listen and get involved.

My Anova sous vide cooker stick thing is no longer heating the water, just circulating. I don't see any mechanical issues with it, I de-scaled and cleaned the heating element anyway and still no dice. Did the whole hold down button to reset and all that. I bought it used but new in box (worked fine for a year) so I don't know what the warranty situation would be like.
Anyway, I have some film chemicals that I need to use up quickly so I asked my friend if he had one I could borrow.
Yeah we have a sous vide. You can borrow it
It requires an app to use though. Be warned lolIt's good to be known so well by your friends that the app disclaimer was provided without being asked. But good grief! You need an app from Breville to even set a temperature, not like fancy cooking cycles (fair enough) but just to say "make water hot", it's sole purpose 🤬
We're cooked! But first we need an app for that.

In an EPIC bout of yak-shaving I have reduced the build time for this static site infrastructure running on a puny VPS by a factor of 5. Come along on this undiagnosed journey.
Anatomy of a yak-shave:
- See what had happened was...
- I wanted to put animated snowflakes on my site
- Learned about CSS animation, nice
- Learned how to not bork screen readers
- Remembered I barely got my CI/CD working with Forgejo runner
- Remembered it takes for ever to deploy
- Realized most of it is just downloading and setting up dependencies
- How hard can it be to bake all that into my own image?
- Oh Forgejo supports a container registry too, nice!
- If I can't quickly build and push an image then this will have to wait
- Oh wow, that was really easy
- False sense of how well things are going
- All the freaking examples are for using public forges with public container registries
- Fall down several totally wrong rabbit holes due to lack of knowledge
- Have not stood up, eaten, drank, blinked in hours by this point
- Things are kinda working, yay! Noooo version mismatch
- I barely know Nix flakes, how do channels work, how do you pin them?
- Realized my tools have been broken but flake.lock has been saving me, nice!
- Fatigue related silly errors and utter faith this attempt will work so I don't need to make a quick test setup and test on a much faster setup
- Revert back to how it was, drink water, oh wait silly me...
- Victory
- Should probably write a blog post, it'll be SO fast to deploy

Another heavily underexposed image here but I really like the soft light highlighting this young tree amongst the large mature trees. I do have some better exposures that I'll share as I work on them, but somehow the poorly exposed ones are the ones I'm most drawn to.

I'll post a few more from this roll of infrared. This frame was severely underexposed but I really like the scene. While it's really not showcasing infrared prominently (except the dark sky) it does have an other wordly glowy feel to it. Sometimes you just like a thing and it doesn't make objective sense, this is one of those.
Interesting off screen note: there were wet foot prints from someone who had gone swimming in the lake not too long before I arrived. That water was 40°F / 4.5°C at best 🥶

Well this was my first roll of Infrared with the R72 filter. I didn't get everything in time to do a practice run before I took it on a trip and that really shows in the roll. I also didn't get bright sunny days but I had already loaded the film so went ahead and shot it over a couple of days. And given how wildly off the exposures were I had to stand develop to try to salvage it but I really should have pushed by 2 stops instead. Fair to say that I'm not happy with what I got.
But it is still a fun learning experience, got to be in the mountains, and look at those white trees!!!📷 #BessaR2 + #7Artisan35mmf2

staying stealthy and reliable so your agents always get what they need without friction
"Staying stealthy"!? Hey #Mozilla, stealthy against whom? The companies trying to track users across the open web? That's the type of tech your charter calls for right!? No?
It can click, scroll, search, and submit just like a human, navigating complex flows with real-time feedback and adaptive behavior. Get full control of
the web, without the complexity. You're building tech for the parasites to scrape the open web "without friction"? You're mimicing the very users your foundation claims to put first against extractive systems. Do you have no sense of shame or at least irony!? We're looking to you to be the last bastion that can defend the web at scale and you're out here building a Trojan horse in the cover of darkness.
It's not that I have just lost respect I've lost hope, I am not sorry for this very confrontational and scorched earth post. I'm sad and seething!

"We've got to stay together and maintain unity. You know, whenever Pharaoh wanted to prolong the period of slavery in Egypt, he had a favorite, favorite formula for doing it. What was that? He kept the slaves fighting among themselves. But whenever the slaves get together, something happens in Pharaoh's court, and he cannot hold the slaves in slavery. When the slaves get together, that's the beginning of getting out of slavery. Now let us maintain unity."

It was a cold gray day warmed by the wonderful company of the indomitable @aaronberjohn. Thanks for such a fun shoot and being so patient as I tried to figure out how to work the camera and then waiting almost a year.
Aaron is a dear old friend and an excellent human being but it's still intimidating shooting a professional actor, I mostly just shoot landscape.

@mike every screen manufacturer has decided all screens need to be narrow 16:9 aspect ratios and UI refresh has decided that taking more vertical space is necessary. Between the OS and applications it seems more 30%+ of the vertical space is chrome, feels like the late 90s/early 2000s IE with 20 toolbars and three lines of content visible!
You're right, having the control on Linux and using tiling (Pop!_OS) with dash to panel let's me maximize vertical space #userchoice

That's what Canonical has been trying to do Ubuntu even making it available as default OS. from hardware vendors. Aside from the #snapfu they've done a decent job overall.I agree that Linux needs an instantly recognizable brand/logo, something like a BMW. But Linux is more akin to branding all 4-door sedans 🚗.
Maybe #thelinuxfoundation can curate a #LinuxOS brand and logo as a direct analogue to Windows / OSX
