I have been using the DVORAK keyboard instead of the QWERTY keyboard on my phone for 3 years.

I love it. It's great & efficient.

You won't feel strain on your thumbs while typing long texts, as it doesn't require the thumbs to move very much.

And Yes! It requires patience & a learning curve to get accustomed to.

Et #Debian a mis à jour le #BIOS tout seul au premier démarrage. J'avais prévu une planche d'autocollants #AZERTY par précaution et, coup de pot, le clavier n'est pas rétroéclairé, car les autocollants sont opaques : premier prix sur internet).
Comme il y a une touche en moins sur les claviers #QWERTY, j'ai les touches < et > sur les Alt + Shift + W et X. Nickel-chrome tout cela. J'ai utilisé l'iso #netinstall de Debian 13.

for a quick update on my #dvorak typing.

i can now type at about 60 wpm consistently. i much prefer it to #qwerty even though i am still less confident with dvorak. i am still able to type in qwerty but it takes a bit of time to activate that muscle memory but i don't really have a reason to switch back unless i am using my #typewriter (i would love to find a dvorak typewriter).

19. Jahrhundert gab es bei Schreibmaschinen eine reiche Auswahl an unterschiedlichen Tastaturdesigns. Bei der meistverbreiteten Variante waren die Buchstaben schlicht in alphabetischer Reihenfolge angebracht. 1873 allerdings hat ein gewisser Christopher Latham Sholes Probleme mit seiner Schreibmaschine, weil sich bei schnellem Tippen häufig die Tastenarme miteinander verhaken. Er tüftelt so lange an dem Gerät herum, bis er die Tasten so angeordnet hatte, dass sie sich weniger häufig in die Quere kommen konnten. Dieses Design wies die heute immer noch gängige QWERTY-Anordnungs auf und wurde schließlich von der New Yorker Firma Remington als Standarddesign für ihre günstige, massenproduzierte Schreibmaschine übernommen. Die weite Verbreitung der Remington-Schreibmaschinen führt wiederum dazu, dass Sekretär*innen auf der QWERTY-Tastatur ausgebildet werden. Inzwischen hat sich das Problem der einander blockierenden Tastenarme zwar längst anderweitig gelöst, doch das Design ist geblieben. Die ineinandergreifenden Abhängigkeiten informieren sich gegenseitig und bilden so die Etappen auf dem Pfad der weiteren Entwicklung bis hin zu den Computertastaturen auf unseren Schreibtischen."

Dieses Beispiel mit den Tastaturbelegungen finde ich nach wie vor jedes mal wenn ich daran denke komplett absurd. (Gesendet von einer QWERTZ-Tastatur)

Es liegt allerdings eine gewisse Ironie darin, dass dieses Grund-Problem zweier sich in die Quere Kommender Tastenarme mit der Erfindung des Smartphones wieder aufgekommen ist - nur eben jetzt mit zwei Daumen, die einander beim tippen nicht in die Quere kommen sollen.

Dieses Design wies die heute immer noch gängige QWERTY-Anordnungs auf und wurde schließlich von der New Yorker Firma Remington als Standarddesign für ihre günstige, massenproduzierte Schreibmaschine übernommen. Die weite Verbreitung der Remington-Schreibmaschinen führt wiederum dazu, dass Sekretär*innen auf der QWERTY-Tastatur ausgebildet werden. Inzwischen hat sich das Problem der einander blockierenden Tastenarme zwar längst anderweitig gelöst, doch das Design ist geblieben. Die ineinandergreifenden Abhängigkeiten informieren sich gegenseitig und bilden so die Etappen auf dem Pfad der weiteren Entwicklung bis hin zu den Computertastaturen auf unseren Schreibtischen."

Dieses Beispiel mit den Tastaturbelegungen finde ich nach wie vor jedes mal wenn ich daran denke komplett absurd. (Gesendet von einer QWERTZ-Tastatur)

Es liegt allerdings eine gewisse Ironie darin, dass dieses Grund-Problem zweier sich in die Quere Kommender Tastenarme mit der Erfindung des Smartphones wieder aufgekommen ist - nur eben jetzt mit zwei Daumen, die einander beim tippen nicht in die Quere kommen sollen.

About 6 months ago, I started #typing #qwerty with the fingers in the proper positions rather than the left hand shifted one over (#WASD) or crossing rows.

I felt stuck at ~70-80% for quite some time but I noticed that I'm very quick at typing in natural languages again just now; as quick as I remember being before or perhaps even better.

Though I did also change my layout to #neoqwerty (qwerty but with neo layers) at the same time and started using layer-activated #HomeRowMods after #MRMCD25.
