From the vantage point at the top of Kasamatsu Park (傘松公園) it is customary to look through your legs, turning the sandbar into a heavenly bridge, with the sky and sea changing places.
Viewing Amanohashidate (天橋立) this way is also said to bring luck.

Having walked across Japan, in 1643 scholar Hayashi Gahō (林鵞峰 1618-88) wrote a book "Observations About the Remains of Japan's Civil Affairs" (日本国事跡考), naming Miyajima's Itsukushima-jinja (厳島神社), Amanohashidate and Matsushima (松島) the three most beautiful views in Japan (日本三景).

The god Izanagi (伊邪那岐) had a ladder called 'amanōkihashi' (天の浮橋) that he would use to climb down from heaven to visit his partner Izanami (伊弉冉尊) at Manaihara (真名井原) on earth.
One day he fell asleep and the ladder fell to the ground, becoming Amanohashidate (天橋立).

Amanohashidate (天橋立), the 'Bridge to Heaven', is celebrated as 1 of Japan's 3 most scenic views (日本三景).
The 3km sandbar is covered with 8000 pine trees, creating a scene known as 'hakusha-seishō' (白砂青松), the place of 'white sand and green pines'.
