  1. @benroyce @deilann @tofugolem @rozeboosje @CptSuperlative I would argue that the problem is the two party primary system where extremists on both sides show up for the primaries leaving the final ballot with only the extremes… and replacing the primary system with rank choice voting on Election Day is the solution

    #rankchoicevoting

  2. @ShadSterling @QasimRashid #rankchoicevoting? It gets rid of the primaries where the fanatics nominate who’ll be in the ballot, and allows you to protest vote who you really like as well as who’ll you settle for.

  3. CW: US election

@AndiPopp the election is all about stopping #trump and his #maga… and a reorganization of the #gop from #christifascism and back to fiscal responsibility

So a vote for a third party candidate is a vote for #trump, #maga, and #christifascists

I regret voting for Anderson back in 1980. That turned out to be a vote for #reagan

    You will regret voting #3rdparty

Maybe someday we’ll have #rankchoicevoting, and we can vote our conscience as well as the lesser of two evils

  4. @benroyce hopefully they don’t look back on their vote with 20/20 hindsight and regret as I did back in ‘80, voting for Jon Anderson.

It is also a case for #rankchoicevoting: you can make your statement but also back it up to do your best to assure that the wrong person doesn’t win.

  6. Spoiler alert: writer goes deep into #mtg territory and is surprised to find very normal people.

My takeaway: the primaries, filled with radicals, define the election… which is why #rankchoicevoting is so needed (and end the two party system).

  7. @chicagotribune @national-politics-chicagotribune

I would love to see more #rankChoiceVoting it sounds like a great way to select people to work in our government that more accurately reflects the kind of folks we want.

I need to learn more about it and how to make it happen in more places. #MAGA peopoe don't like it so it must be good:-)

Our work does not end on election day.

#democracy is more than how we vote!

  9. This election will come down to a few thousand voters in a few battleground states, and that's democracy, folks.

  10. @Wileymiller nobody’s vote should count more than another’s.

… mostly (but not all) caused by #gerrymandering. It might be easier to make that illegal than an amendment.

#rankchoicevoting would also help, and rid us of primary elections that tend to put extremists on the general election ballot (who then gerrymander the electorate)

  11. I really wish we had #RankChoiceVoting because #BarbaraLee and #KatiePorter will split the progressive vote allowing #AdamSchiff to beat #SteveGarvey in the General Election.

  12. @KarunaX

This only works if we have #RankChoiceVoting or a #parliamentarydemocracy.

The United States does not have this. In reality, you decide the person you don’t want to win. You pick the person who can best deprive your target from their victory.

    I didn’t make the rules.

  13. For the record, I remain optimistic about rank choice voting. I feel that it leaves room for both stated and revealed preferences to borrow some econ language.

  15. I try to make a conscious effort to read more about topics that are counter to my intuition. So this headline caught my eye: "Ranked Choice Voting Disenfranchises Minorities, Though Favored by Left, Study Finds" especially since the coverage was lopsided.

There was only one outlet marked center-right who covered a counter finding. Media bias and a lack of shard truths is rough, tools help but doing the work is real labor.

  17. I don't say this enough, but how do we fix the US 2-party voting system? How do you make your vote count? The answer I've found is RCV (Rank Choice Voting):

  19. @icedquinn
Kennedy must've changed his mind. Four of his siblings are upset he is running apparently. They recently published a joint statement denouncing it. Why don't they denounce the lack of a sane #votingSystem across the country (if we remember #USA citizens call 'Preferential voting' #RankChoiceVoting)

We didn't read much about this but apparently DNC will not do debates as they normally do, and that was part of his reasoning to go independent.

  20. THERE ARE NOW *THREE* POLITICAL PARTIES in our federal gov't: #Democrats, #Republicans, and the #Maga Party (a breakaway faction of the #GOP.)

Our gov't was not designed to handle 3 Parties at once. It was designed as a "50%+1" #MajorityRule system.

If this is to continue, WE MUST switch to a #RankChoiceVoting system at ALL levels or it will become IMPOSSIBLE to govern, with no one Party ever able to pass legislation with over 50% of the vote (short of a landslide election.)

  24. @amsomniac
When is that country going to get #rankChoiceVoting?

When is it going to be the actual #democracy it pretends to be, as opposed to a #warProfiteering, #slaveLabour profiteering and #virtualSignalling enterprise?

Does #BernieOrVest mean we should see #yellowVests soon?

    @LuigiEsq

  25. @strypey
They are insidious. The #fauxLeft in the US also vicerally despise third party candidates like #JillStein because they think he Dems are a valid choice still, and due to a lack of a #preferentialVoting system (aka #rankChoiceVoting) they attack the true left alternatives.

The US is on the decline though. Their #neoliberal model has failed - it's just a matter of time now.
