  15. CW: Qìgōng: Still Meditation

#Qigong #StillMeditation is most unique for the fact that it spans every posture—laying down, sitting, and standing. The emphasis is much like in #ZhanZhuang where whatever posture you’re in, you’re expected to hold it for quite some time and focus entirely on #Neidan (internal transformation).

The “right attitude” for the beginner is to adopt the most comfortable posture that allows them to relax entirely, remain awake, and regulate their breathing while leading the #Qi with a clear and focused mind. If the posture feels weird or uncomfortable, it will be a distraction.

This is very different from other schools of #Meditation which may have very specific postures, while in some traditions there is one and only one acceptable posture.

  19. CW: Qìgōng and Martial Arts

I really took my time with #TuNaSiBa #Qigong and #SanTiShi this morning, a full two hours: 90 minutes for the four breathing forms, and half an hour for #ZhanZhuang

Yesterday, I didn’t have the emotional energy to repeat all four breathing forms a second time, so I did still meditation in the afternoon (in three half-hour sessions as I was trying to build up to four breathing forms), and then the #XingyiQigong exercises in my evening session

That seems to be a good balance, maintaining three sessions a day but a wider spread of Qìgōng practices; so I plan to follow the same schedule today—save for the fact that I’ll commit to still meditation in one solid 90-minute block

JFC #TuNaSiBa #Qigong is so much more intense than #XingyiQigong even though the pace is so, so, so much slower

I eased back into it, to give all four breathing forms my full attention and four repetitions each. This morning I did Form 1. This afternoon, Form 2. This evening, Forms 3 and 4. All three sessions followed by #SanTiShi #ZhanZhuang

But since it went so well, and my muscle and #Qi memory have not completely forgotten these forms after all, tomorrow I will do all four, for all three sessions

#Qigong #ZhanZhuang and #XingYiQuan went exceptionally well this morning. Yikes—they went so well I didn’t even realize it was already 11 AM

#Qigong still felt weird tonight. The deep-muscle #Qi flow continues, but my root, core, and power still feel off when totally relaxed.

So I’ve been taking it easy on my #XingYiQuan training, focusing only on #ZhanZhuang so I don’t hurt myself.

  30. Following an idea that had grown from something that I read, I think I may have found a new layer of practice in my zhan zhuang.
After the dropping of the weight, the relaxation, the awareness, now everything has become a lot more" bouncy" and less mechanical.
It feels more like a constant soft motion of everything to keep relaxed while being motionless instead of the individual acts of relaxing whenever tension broke the surface.

    Therapeutic Discoveries

Almost from the moment l began the practice of standing meditation, my body reacted rebelliously and violently At first, the musculature of my body simply was not developed and strong enough to meet the demands of holding the positions, resulting in an intense trembling of the musculature and involuntary, often violent, shaking of the body. Yet, even as l developed the physical strength to maintain the postures, this shaking continued. Physically and psychologically got got literally "all shook up." Recolletions of childhood trauma and associated fears and angers began to surface during bouts of shaking. These I interpreted, in accordance with my Reichian and bioenergetic perspective, as the therapeutic process of dissolving specific myofascial blockages in the body armor. Thus, working through the agony of the standing and shaking became an integral part of a therapeutic journey. It became my path of resolving old traumas and contradictions while opening the energy path ways and reintegrating the body's segments, or springs. In a nutshell, my developmental experience in the Yiquan system attests to the truth of the old adage that the agony precedes the ecstasy.

In my case the process of breaking case tne requisite breaking up psychosomatic blockages through the shaking was agonizing indeed. The subsequent experience of reintegrating the segmented parts of the body with each other and with the mind has, over the years, been an endless source of ecstasy.

Standing meditation is the work of bringing deep unconscious reflexes and processes into consciousness. By paying attention to and correlating proprioceptive and kinesthetic data, we seek to hone these instinctual abilities to a fine edge..
