The old man put down his pipe and spoke.

Life is short, he said, it passes by one day at a time, without fanfare, and then suddenly we realise it's all gone. I wish I could meet my younger self and beat some sense into the careless young man I then was.

What would you say to him?

Get enough sleep. Eat well. Always have some chicken stock in the fridge. That sort of thing.

He picked up his pipe and took a few gentle puffs.
