Sorcier, druide et brahmane
On entend parler dans les différents textes de sorcier et de sorcière, de druide et de brahmane. Est-ce qu’il y a une différence et quels sont les liens ?
Cette question touche en fait toutes les civilisations et traverse plusieurs millénaires.
Le druide que l’on retrouve surtout en Celtes, en Gaule, et aux îles Britanniques et le brahmane en Inde sont des figures institutionnelles. Ils occupent une place reconnue dans l’ordre social de leur société, ils sont formés pendant des décennies, ils sont garants de la loi et du cosmos. Le druide est profondément lié à la forêt et aux cycles naturels, tandis que le brahmane a un corpus textuel et rituel codifié parmi les plus anciens du monde, les Védas.
Ce n’est pas un hasard si le druide et le brahmane se ressemblent tant. Ils partagent vraisemblablement une racine commune indo-européenne. D’ailleurs, Mathieu Halford en fait la démonstration dans son livre : Druides celtiques et brahmanes indiens. Le mot sanskrit brahman (parole sacrée, puissance du rite) et la fonction druidique de maître de la parole sont deux branches d’un même arbre, séparées par des millénaires de migration.
Dans la société celtique, le pouvoir était divisé entre les guerriers nobles (équites) et les druides. Le roi guérissait, protégeait tandis que le druide légitimait. Aucune guerre ne pouvait commencer sans leur accord, aucun traité n’était légitime sans leur présence. César lui-même note qu’ils étaient exemptés de l’impôt et du service militaire, signe de leur statut exceptionnel.
Le sorcier ou la sorcière apparait comme une figure qui n’est pas instituée par une autorité, avant tout reconnaissable par ses pouvoirs. Selon les cultures, le sorcier ou la sorcière est parfois craint, consulté en secret, opérant dans l’espace ambigu du monde visible et invisible. Là où le druide et le brahmane renforcent l’ordre, le sorcier ou la sorcière le traverse ou le contourne.
Le savoir se transmet oralement, et c’est voulu ainsi. Des textes appris par cœur, touchant les mythes, les lois, les généalogies, et la cosmologie. L’absence d’écriture n’était pas un manque, c’était une discipline. L’écrit fige, alors que la parole vivante s’adapte, se transmet de maître à disciple, reste vivante dans la mémoire.
Le sorcier ou la sorcière est antérieur à toutes ces traditions, représentant peut-être la plus vieille figure spirituelle de l’humanité. On ne les retrouve pas seulement en Afrique ou en Amérique, mais sur tous les continents.
