Also as I understand, the Samaṇa (Sanskrit: Śramaṇa) movement -- including Buddhism, Jainism, et al -- was the organised response/resistance of south Asia's tribal and IVC/Dravidian peoples to the spread of Vedism, and it prompted the Upaniṣadic movement within Vedic Hinduism.

As I understand, yoga, meditation, equality, & viewing the forest as sacred came from the Indus Valley Civilisation (proto-Dravidian) and AASI/tribal peoples, in contrast to the caste-hierarchical, fire-sacrificing, horse-and-plains culture of the Vedic Indo-Aryans.
