Uddalaka Aruni: The Pioneer of Indian Metaphysics

The Father Who Asked "Have You Known?" Living in the Kuru-Panchala region of ancient India around the 8th century BCE, Uddalaka Aruni was a Vedic sage who stands as one of the earliest recorded philosophers in human history. He is best known for his profound dialogue with his son, Svetaketu. When Svetaketu returned home after twelve years of studying the Vedas, Aruni did not ask if he had memorized the texts. Instead, he asked the radical question: "Have you asked for that teaching by which what has not been heard becomes heard, what has not been thought becomes thought, what has not been understood becomes understood?" This marked a pivotal shift from ritualistic performance (karma-kanda) to the pursuit of fundamental knowledge (jnana-kanda).

The Doctrine of Atman and Brahman Aruni’s most revolutionary contribution was the articulation of the identity between the individual self (Atman) and the ultimate reality of the universe (Brahman).

Tat Tvam Asi: He crystallized this insight in the famous mahavakya (great saying): "That Thou Art." He taught that the essence of the individual is not separate from the essence of the cosmos. Hi all, I've just moved to social.lol from a self-hosted instance, so it's time
for an updated #introduction

One of my big passions is writing: I have a personal website @
https://kedara.eu where I #blog, tend a #DigitalGarden and web weave a #wiki ,
and try to contribute to the #Indieweb #smallweb communities.

I'm very much into #yoga and #meditation and everything related to that. I'm

I love #photography and am slowly getting back into #AnalogPhotography again,
mostly related to #nature #weather #clouds #trees and other beautiful moments,
people and things. I love the #forest, I'm grateful to live at the edge of the
beautiful #Veluwe nature area.
