As I understand, yoga, meditation, equality, & viewing the forest as sacred came from the Indus Valley Civilisation (proto-Dravidian) and AASI/tribal peoples, in contrast to the caste-hierarchical, fire-sacrificing, horse-and-plains culture of the Vedic Indo-Aryans.

Interesting fact: the Jaya Srī Mahā Bodhi tree in Anurādhapura, Srī Laṅkā was grown from a cutting of the original Bodhi tree, which was brought by Emperor Asoka's daughter, Saṅghamittā, in the 3rd c BCE. It is THE SAME ORGANISM as the original Bodhi tree. If only it could speak.
