It's been a year since #CoMaps released, and I still have no idea whether it or #OrganicMaps is better. Both are open source, offline-first, and privacy respecting, although CoMaps seems to have made some claims that Organic Maps isn't, but I can't find indpendent evidence showing that is correct. Allegedly CoMaps added some new features, but I don't know if those features matter at all for my use, or if Organic Maps has merged them as well by now. Is there any meaningful difference between the two apps now? My biggest concern with using either of them is that the development of one might just stop and make me need to manually move all my data. As I understand it, this isn't a Glimpse situation (fork of GIMP made primarily to change the name that quickly lost steam and shut down in two years) or a PolyMC situation (maintainer went on a power trip and all the other developers and users fled, leaving the original project in a zombie state). So will the two projects continue to exist parallel to each other, meging changes from each other? Or will they diverge at some point? For that matters is it on Organic Maps or CoMaps that most development happens first? I don't expect an answer from anyone (much as it would be nice to get one); I'm just shouting into the void because nobody seems to be discussing this anywhere searchable.

Moin #Bike oder #wanderbubble habt Ihr einen Tipp für eine #OSM basierte #Karten-app, die folgende Funktionalitäten mitbringt. Zur Zeit nutze ich @organicmaps (davor: #OSMscout), aber beide leisten dies soweit ich das bisher erfahren habe eider nicht (prove me wrong):
▶️ Anzeige der Geschwindigkeit auch ohne Routing (finde es umständlich, bei einer kleinen und bekannten Radrunde immer irgendein fiktives Ziel oder gar Wegpunkte einzugeben, nur um die aktuelle Geschwindigkeit angezeigt zu bekommen)
▶️ Auswahl mehrerer Routenvorschläge im Routing
▶️ Bei/nach Routenaufzeichnung Anzeige Durchschnittsgeschwindigkeit (mit/ohne Standzeiten) und gerne auch Export dieser Daten (OSMscout ist hier besser als #organicMaps -

Most recently the plant ID upsell would happen during hikes (a setting turns that off) and every time you open the app (complained via chat, then it stopped). I value it most for trail discovery and recent reviews.
#Comaps or #OrganicMaps are great for finding driving directions whether you have coverage or not. These are commonly used to get me to and from trails.

I like #OrganicMaps a lot, but there are a few probs I can't solve.
If I record then save a Track, then want to follow it later… how do I do that, short of just watching the map and staying on the trail?
It offers a "Route To" and "Route From", but when I tried one of those it just launched into turn-by-turn directions along some other calculated (and terrible) route. I also couldn't get out of that mode.
Any tips for
1) follow a stored track
2) exit directions mode -

Is there any #OpenStreetMap based navigator app, where one could set up directions based on public bicycle rental stations? Like it guides me to one of the closes bike stands on foot, guides me to the nearest bike station to my destination, and guides me to the destination on foot?

Can anyone tell me if there's an option in either OrganicMaps or CoMaps to not have to download maps all the time? Like if I'm on WiFi I just want to be able to zoom in wherever on the map all the time without having to download the entire region to my phone. If not, is such a feature in the works, at least?
In settings there's an option to "Auto-download maps" ... but this doesn't seem to do anything whether I turn it on or off.

Beautiful routing alternative: #Organicmaps on #grapheneos. I had to look up on how to add intermediate stops. Everything else is very intuitive. Refreshing to see a viable alternative to gmaps!

If you want to help with the Open Source community, one of the best ways to do that is to volunteer with Open Street Map.
All you have to do is make an account + install the Organic Maps app. Any time you're out and notice a business missing (or details like hours), just add it! It's really easy.
That way, when people use open source maps apps their results are more accurate!

Make a new tag that people can add to bus stops for faster / shorter route change, seeing such tags navigation in software can give'em bigger priority than inner build-in one
Why? Because today I build my way from one city to another on 2 buses (numb. 321 & 654), spend no needed 5-6 bus stops, cross walk side and realized I could change bus way long before that place (4-5 bus stops before)

Это просто жопа. Плохо вообще все.
Наверное основатель проекта не пользуется этим приложением или вообще не автомобилист.
Приложение у меня все еще лежит на всякий аварийный случай. Вдуг что-как.
На повседневке - это страшная боль.
Если вы делаете навигационное приложение, берите пример со старого #Navitel (который полностью офлайн) , #Garmin или с #яндекс навигатора. Там годные интерфейсы и адекватная работа приложения.
#OrganicMaps - только аварийный режим потому, что я еще хочу жить.
#Навигатор - это совсем не так просто как может показаться, особенно в современных условиях бытия.
