as someone who's really big on data privacy, i never thought i would be able to use a wearable/smartwatch.

well, i'm elated to have learned about #GadgetBridge this week. so much so that i immediately copped an Amazfit Balance 2 XT. (fantastic cheapo watch btw; the latest software update is A+).

i can now
- keep all my data locally
- go on runs without my phone and still be able to listen to music in earbuds
- take advantage of a super solid training UI/app
- track/navigate on dual gps + altimeter
- indulge in all the frivolous niceties: weather, extra light for night running, breathing app, heart rate monitor that basically says i'm dead when i'm sitting

Habs endlich mal geschafft meiner alten Amazfit GTR 4 Smartwatch ihren Hersteller-Schlüssel zu entlocken, mit dem Huami die Kommunikation mit dem Server schützt. Damit kann ich die doofe Zepp-App, die keine Gelegenheit zum nachkobern auslässt, endlich deinstallieren.

Hat denn jemand Erfahrung mit Gadgetbridge in Verbindung mit einer Pebble Time 2, oder Pebble Uhren Allgemein und kann dazu etwas berichten? Können die Watchfaces dann genutzt werden oder andere Pebble Apps?

Ich wollte #Gadgetbridge eine Chance geben. Aber nachdem nun zwei Trainingseinheiten "verloren" gegangen sind und zwei komplette Tage die vorhandene Informationen (auf der Uhr sichtbar) nicht in die App übernommen wurden – trotz mehrfacher Synchronisation), muss ich jetzt doch wieder zurück zur verhassten #Withings Software.

Zudem leerte sich der Akku innerhalb von 2 bis 3 Tagen, während er sonst i.d.R. mind. eine Woche hielt.

Vielleicht gebe ich dem Ganzen in einer paar Monaten noch einmal eine Chance, aber in der aktuellen Version ist es für meine Steel HR einfach nicht sinnvoll nutzbar.

Starting with today's nightly build, #Gadgetbridge gains support for uploading activity tracks directly to @endurain and Wanderer (from @flomp). This feature is only available for users who install "InternetHelper for Gadgetbridge", because Gadgetbridge itself doesn't have and never will have internet permissions.

Whether you self-host Endurain or Wanderer, or use one of their public instances, you can now easily upload your trails, runs, bike routes, etc and use their social features to share.

Now, #GadgetBridge comes with a #BreezyWeather integration - perfect since I use that app already. Unfortunately, the data doesn't get pushed to my watch, though. At first it looked like it did before (with the native app without location access): some data was shown, other not. Now, there is nothing. I blame the watch and not the app, but I am slightly disappointed.

I've been using #GadgetBridge with my #Garmin for a week now and overall I'm very happy. The sync runs smoothly, sometimes even better than with the native app, and I like the battery status info.
After I switched to #grapheneOS I refused to give the Garmin app location access, since it's only needed for weather and that is not very important to me.

What a start to my day! First, I didn't really believe Breezy Weather when it told me we had 18°C outside and wore my long leggings for my morning #run. Big mistake, but still a good run. And Google Photos has completely changed their collage templates, making a photo and a screenshot from #Gadgetbridge fit together much more nicely than before.

Wer seine Smartwatch mit dem Smartphone koppelt, gibt einem weiteren Gerät Zugriff auf Gesundheitsdaten, Benachrichtigungen, Standort und Kommunikation. Smarte Geräte am Körper sind die intimsten Datensammler, die es gibt. Wer darauf nicht verzichten will, sollte einen Blick auf #Gadgetbridge werfen: Die Open-Source-App ersetzt die herstellereigene Companion-App für viele Smartwatches und Fitnesstracker - ohne Cloud-Zwang, ohne Datenweitergabe, ohne Konto.

Since @gadgetbridge doesn't provide a functionality to share an activity with a custom photo like #Garmin does, I had to create my own. I'm not very happy with my solution (a Google Photos collage) yet, but at least it was easy to do. How are other #gadgetbridge users sharing their activities, if you do so at all?

#Withings #Steel HR #Fitness #Uhr mittels #Gadgetbridge verbunden.

War ein wenig herausfordernd und spannend, aber am Ende erfolgreich:

• Schritt 1: Verbindung in der Withings App mit der Uhr trennen.
• Schritt 2: [zunächst vergessen] Bluetooth am alten Smartphone deaktiveren, damit sich die Withings App nicht einmischt, wenn man die Uhr neu [mit einem anderen Gerät] koppeln will.
• Schritt 3: Gadgetbrige starten, zunächst alle Berechtigungen zulassen, damit die Kopplung nicht daran scheitert. (Später kann man das immer noch anpassen.)
• Schritt 4: Die Suche nach (neuen) Geräten über Gadgetbridge starten – zwischendurch die App schließend, Bluetooth deaktivieren, warten, wieder aktivieren. App wieder starten. Bei mir hat die Erkennung erst nach 2, 3 Versuchen geklappt, die Kopplung auch nicht im ersten Anlauf.
• Schritt 5: Wenn die Steel HR in der Liste von Gadgetbridge auftaucht, dann diese zur Kopplung auswählen.
• Schritt 6: Die Uhr **nicht** als Begleiter zu koppeln versuchen, dann erfolgt keine Abfrage nach der PIN – den entsprechenden Dialog verneinen!
• Schritt 7: Den in der Uhr angezeigten PIN eingeben.

• Schritt 8: Freude pur, dass es geklappt hat.

Over the past couple of days I've been quietly working on and adding support for a new device (OVERMAX Touch 2.6) to Gadgetbridge... and today I've seen the first tangible results! :ablobfoxbongohyper:

I waited a bit to post anything about it as I wasn't sure if I'd even be able to do it (it is my first BTLE RE project!) but while there's still stuff to be done, I've got to a point where I'm rather confident I can at least reach some basic level of support :neofox_cofe:

The watch itself isn't exactly a popular model iirc, but its companion app is not even available on the Play Store anymore (and it's rather sketchy too if you ask me) so having it supported on @gadgetbridge is already a big plus due to that!

(Btw that's my SO's smartwatch, in fact that's what made me start this project to begin with... and doing something that will help them is more than enough of a reason for me to keep going! :neofox_blep: )

I was the master of losing my wallet. Now I have a phone case / wallet combo so I can always call it. Sometimes the battery ran out, so I set up #HomeAssistant to set off an alarm when the battery got to 2%, so I could call it first. I also have #GadgetBridge set up to let me call from my watch and #KdeConnect to call from my desktop / laptop.

I still lose my wallet sometimes, but my systems for finding it again are pretty robust.

Now if I can just finally convince @pine64 to make an open #Tile / #Trackr equivalent, I can stop losing my keys all the time...

Today, my watch didn't let me enter the menu anymore. It reacted to calls and the start of the charging process. But it wouldn't go back to the home screen. I've powercycled it twice but that doesn't resolve the issue. It's connected to my phone, showing the pebble OS logo.

Any ideas how to resolve this?
