It's your weekly curation of the essential news in the Open Media Network and Open Social development communities with a focus on devastating big tech via Techno Anarchism. As usual, we aim to provide actionable content you can use to destroy Techno Feudalism each week. It has the additional benefit of weakening authoritarianism. IMHO, the best way to do that is to use tools from the Techno […]

  3. If I wanted to ship some #CSS in an #11ty / #BuildAwesome plugin, how would I do that?

    Just include the CSS file in the published plugin, and document different patterns for including it, or should the plugin autoload the CSS somehow? 🤔

    Anyone have an example?

  4. Ok, so I'm not shutting down my personal website anymore because we have such an awesome thing like @11ty. The docs look overwhelming at first, but then you just choose things you worked with in the past and just build.

    I spent two hours and have this: yevi.org

    Heavily inspired by @andycarolan's about page on his website.

  7. I ignored an issue in my local #11ty / #BuildAwesome setup for over a year, and figured out I had backed myself into a corner with #Vento's cache… but I fixed it: chriskirknielsen.com/blog/vent

  9. I think my favorite part of the new version of #buildawesome/#11ty is that I keep being able to ditch luxon and other dependencies. Dates used to be a major frustration for me with 11ty but no more.
    ```
    toISOString()
    ```
    came changer

  10. #BuildAwesome/#11ty is the only software I upgrade that gets smaller

  11. I just switched a site from #11ty 3.1.6 to #buildawesome alpha for the new Nunjucks async, and I reduced my build time from 55 seconds to 33 seconds, removed 40+ packages, and made 937 deletions in package.json.
    I could probably go lower if I ditch the PDF metadata checking, but I keep having PDF issues, so I'm loath to remove it. adamdjbrett.com/blog/2026-07-0

  15. Yay!!! :linux: I figured out how to setup my Build Awesome (11ty) dev environment on my Linux laptop using Distrobox and VScodium because I'm using an immutable distro (Bazzite).

    Now that I'm starting to understand it, I kinda like having dev things sandboxed more.

  17. @firefoxwebdevs I believe this would reach its full potential if supported and implemented also for headers in @mediawiki transcluded pages/templates, and in situations with no front-end JavaScript, for example when computing the heading level inside @11ty includes.

  18. Have other web devs noticed a downturn in projects recently? I have. At the start of the year things started feeling a bit off, but the last few weeks I'm seeing very little in the way of leads for both WP and Shopify.

    I can understand Shopify to an extent, it's focused around ecommerce and the majority of clients starting out are small or even one person, with a small budget.

    There is a lot of uncertainty in the world right now and add to it that AI is becoming a poor alternative for real developers.

    So, if anyone (agencies, other freelancers or clients) has any openings, leads or just genuine interest please get in touch: alanquirk.com. I am very much open to new projects and long term development relationships, and hopefully things will turn around for us all.

  19. prikbord.page was just launched!

    Super iper cool federated calendar for events in Rotterdam (and potentially beyond!) built with @11ty on top of @gancio, including a print function powered by @pagedjs ❤️‍🔥

    Still WIP but already working (wonderfully) at @relay 👀

    All the code is 100% Free Software, available at git.vvvvvvaria.org/prikbord.pa 💕

  20. RE: fediverse.zachleat.com/@zachle

    There's still time (less than 3 hours as of writing this) to contribute to this!

    We're so close to reaching another stretch goal AND helping its creator remove their beard just in time for summer. It's just the right thing to do really 🙏

  21. One thing about the #eleventy #buildawesome Kickstarter I will say - I really don't know how to use Kickstarter 😅

  22. Thank you, @j9t! So useful! I am wondering if you plan to bundle this in an #Eleventy / #BuildAwesome plugin 👀
