A Call to Conscience Theater did a community-based production about the Jefferson Bank protests last year - it was a privilege to see it.

…As special counsel for the #DOJ’s #CivilRights division during the #Obama admin, Emily Gunston led a 13-month probe into alleged abuses w/in the #Chicago PD. The admin had ramped up such “pattern or practice” investigations in the wake of the fatal #police shooting of #MichaelBrown, a #Black man, in Ferguson, MO, in 2014.
Her team’s report concluded that #CPD’s regularly used #unlawful force, including #shooting at fleeing suspects & using #Tasers in nonviolent encounters. -

#OTD 2018, I had the honor of giving a talk at the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race & Justice at #HarvardLawSchool.
This talk was based on an article idea that I had been pitching, about some striking similarities between the 1962 #PoliceKilling of #RomanDucksworth, Jr. and the 2014 police killing of #MichaelBrown. An editor at a major national magazine told me it was not fair to compare the racist behavior of the two #police officers. But Harvard disagreed.
